Hello ! I am not an official.
But thinking of pet designs. There seems among the pets to also be ones with all ends of patterning.
Like the horses with winter scenes.
Or the realistic pelt doggies.
And then how some pets have sharp color edges and others have fades and such.
There really is so much variety thankfully, it is probably pretty hard to be jarring c: !

oh no. i mean in item designs. Selcouth's work is drastically different from some of the others. so then I wonder to what extent would I need to try and mimmic lines so people thing "woah wait, who drew that? is that one of these 3 staff artists?" and not "oh, yeah. that person did it"

If the color is not in your chosen color palette, you cannot use it in the design

I guess the note under the color palettes is confusing,
"You can use ANY color for the eyes, linear, or shading,"
What does this mean?

It means that you are welcome to colour in the eyes, the lineart, and the shading layers with any colour you prefer rather than the provided colours. The main body design that you do should be strictly comprised from the provided palette.
In example, if you look at the staff litters each year you can see we use the same colour palette for all the body colours, but the eyes are not included in this choice (we pick whatever colour we want). And some of us colour the lineart whilst others don't and leave it black by default. And the colour of the shading layer affects how warm or cold or etc the pet design appears. I hope this makes sense.

Perrfect sense! Thank you! I wound up leaving it black because i didn't want to alter the lines, another specification haha! Sorry I have been anticipating being able to apply for years so I didn't want to mess it up XD I'm all submitted and hoping for the best despite my confusion

Colouring the lineart doesn't class as altering so you're ok to colour them

Altering pertains to changing their shape by moving/removing/adding to them with new lines. As I say you can leave it default black, which is 100% ok too (I try not to colour lineart myself as I prefer the standard black lines xD)
I do hope to get a good look at all the item artist entries, i'm keen to work with someone else on just items in future

The file is the same size as average CS pets. It is important for site artists to learn how to work with very little space, since pets are tiny!
Can you elaborate more on your layer issue? That way we can help if you are still interested in trying out.
