It looked pretty legit, Reese had to say that much. But with how things were these days, you could hardly tell a forged item from a real one. Anything could be faked or manipulated. Reese knew to not trust things at face value.
“What’s that piddly scrap of metal supposed to show me, huh? Looks like a neat craft project. Are you proud of it? You gonna hang it on your fridge when you get back home?” His voice took a mocking sing-song tone towards the end of his sentences.
“How am I supposed to believe anything you say? You could be lying through your teeth. Show me real proof - definitive proof, something more than your little toy. And maybe, just maybe - I’ll believe you.”
And if this guy really was an agent, his behaviour would be more than detrimental to his status within the splatoon. Reese would personally make sure of that.

"I've got nothing to prove to a spoiled brat like you. You wouldn't last a single day fighting the SOS. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to Octo Gorge. If you really want proof, follow me, but I'm not wasting my time protecting you down there." before putting his badge away, walking over to a sewer grate where an old man could be seen peaking out of and slipped down the grate, going to Octo Gorge.

Considering his parents were athletes, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched for Caelan to make that comparison. Still, he’d always tried to distance himself from the shadows his parents cast. He didn’t like being likened to them.
“Tch. You sure about that? I’ll follow you then, prove you wrong. Then we’ll see who the real spoilt brat is.”
Reese cast a glance at the old cuttlefish. He’d never really interacted with the guy - most of his interactions as an agent were with Marie - but talking to that old fart would be a breeze. Reese knew when to put the ‘nice guy’ gloves on, but they were almost always off when he was talking to Octarians.
Reese followed the octoling into the sewers, allowing himself to be led through the familiar tunnel system until they reached the Gorge.

As Caelan emerged in Octo Gorge, he said to Reese, "Welcome to Octo Gorge, HQ of the SOS and rumored key to the Lost City of Splatlantis." Cap'n Cuttlefish looked over to him and said, "Agent 8! Good to see you again!" Caelan smiled, "Good to see you too old timer." A younger inkling looked up from her book and when she saw Reese, she glared, "Oh, it's you… Agent 8, why did you bring this deserter here?" Caelan's eyes widened when Marie called Reese a deserter and asked, "Wait, this guy used to be an Agent?"

Reese shielded his eyes from the sunlight. Being in tunnels for a while tends to make one photosensitive.
He only spared a glance to the old geezer when another squid caught his eye.
“You again... I thought this octo might be lying, but here we are.”
He sneered at Caelan.
“Of course I used to be an agent. I was Agent 4 of the New Squidbeak Splatoon until somebody-“ He shot a glare at Marie. “- decided I couldn’t finish the job.”
It’d been six long years since he’d left the Splatoon, but each and every day since then had been agonisingly slow. He had no closure for what’d happened back then and he’d sought it now, but Marie’s reaction made it abundantly clear what she thought of him.

Caelan sighed, he couldn't believe he was about to say this, but if Reese really was a former Splatoon member, he couldn't just stand around and let Marie disrespect him. "Listen Marie, I'm not going to claim to know what the kid's been through, but cut him some slack. This job ain't a walk in the park, hell, you guys have it easier than I did back in the Undersea Metro, your grandpa and I nearly got turned into a cephalopod smoothie. Not everyone's cut out for the job, but in my mind, anyone willing to fight against the SOS is ok in my book."
