tempest ida smith's father was a priest. until his dying days, his last breath he uttered words of the lord into the air, as tempest watched the walker tumble ontop of him. it was that day she swore that no one she loved would ever suffer the same fate as him. it was soon after, in his old church did she created the ark. a place where all were safe. it was idealistic, and she knows this, but after that how could she not wish for something better?

the town of augustus is a small, sleepy town, filled with the same family names from years past. now only one remains, the smith family, as tempest has taken over her father's old church and turn it into the ark. town is somewhat far from the church, making scavenging expeditions longer but hunting is easy due to the nearby woods. the town is small, with two general stores, a deli, a bakery, town hall, the inn, and other similar stores. even further away is the nearby city. but, tempest doesn't plan on heading out there anytime soon. past the woods, and past the town, the area around augustus turns into swampland. it's harder to navigate around there unless you know someone who knows the bayou well; never go without a guide.

the people of the ark believe anyone can be saved, anyone can be good if given the opportunity. at least, that's what tempest hopes. that they'll believe. they do their best to help when they can, choose diplomacy over violence if possible.

tempest is alone, with no items but has one black cat, her father's cat; named salem because he thought it was ironic.

saint elise is a high school located in the desert of arizona. but its not any ordinary school, its a school for delinquent teens. ever since the apocalypse began the students have taken it upon themselves to turn the place they once thought was a prison into a well guarded place to live. so far all they've managed to do is stir up chaos and attempt to live civilized with one another.

ranks.
the school runs like a tight knit community with plenty chaos, they all hate each other but understand that they need to work together to survive. even though they appear close no one knows each other's names they call each other solely by code names/nicknames and if you wanted to find out someone's true name you'd have to go through the school records.

the leader- leads the group, this title is usually won through fighting and the leaders role is challenged a lot. leaders change constantly.
the coordinator-the second to the leader. they organize pretty much everything, from groups to go hunting to how much food is shared every day.
the doctors-they may not be professionally trained medics but they're trying their best, the smartest of the kids usually take upon the role of a doctor as its most likely easier for them to learn how to care for wounds.
the soldiers- they are the defense of the school. they patrol the fences of the school for threats and they remove any infected that they find.
the hunters- one of the few people allowed to leave the campus. they go around raiding stores and houses that are left unattended near and around the school.
the outsiders- usually the people they find on outings, majority are younger kids but some are older. they are put into this group to be trained for one of the other roles.

Ruin had come, not with glorious fire and smoke but with the falling of stars - Garnet could've sworn she was the only one left, London having fallen silent with not a soul to be seen for miles and miles. With a soft sigh, the solemn figure disappeared down the alleys - loneliness was a slow-acting poison and Garnet knew better than to believe she would last long by herself out there. Zombies, although stupid, were determined and dangerous - She needed someone to be the eyes in the back of her head. Night had fallen quicker now that there were no yellow lights flickering idly into the witching hours and stars lit up the sky.

Death didn't discriminate and Garnet knew she needed to find shelter quickly, zombies weren't the only things that could kill her after-all. With the chill of the wind at her neck, Garnet shouldered her backpack and soldiered on. As she cautiously forded her way through the darkness, Garnet peered at a distant zombie - It's haggard, pale expression stared blindly ahead and soft moans forced its way out of yellowed teeth. Whatever it was chasing, Garnet was grateful it was not her, and she vanished once again into the winding alleys. Briskly, Garnet made her way along the River Thames, which flowed slowly and thickly through the city like a giant black slug. Wrapping her coat closer around her as the night-wind howled softly, Garnet disappeared around a corner and came upon a car, hidden in darkness - It had been hers, a secret escape away from her family, where she would sit and clutch the steering wheel, dreaming of a destination far far away. A place to call her own.

Of course, the apocalypse gave her the perfect excuse to get as far away from anywhere as she could.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐓 was almost unbearable. tempest could barely stand the humid heat of the church, gently petting salem as she stared out of one of the stain-glass windows that stretched up into the ceiling. she had turned on a nearby fan, but it did little to battle the noon warmth. it had been what, two weeks? two weeks since tempest's last human interaction and she was going stir-crazy. but all of the undead out on her doorstep diverted her from wanting to go outside. but her stores were getting low, and she could tell that salem wanted to get out of the church proper; like he usually did.

as if he knew that she was thinking about him, salem lets out a little peep and roll onto his belly, staring up at tempest with his strange, orange-ish eyes.

"hey dude," she says to the cat. "how would you feel if i took a trip today, huh?" he lets out a 'mreep' at the response and tempest takes it as an okay. standing from the windowpane, tempest moves into the church proper, through all of the pews, and up the stage to where her father used to stand and preach. her hand idles on the pulpit, eyes staring longingly at his untouched bible before she moves away and into the attic, where she had made her makeshift bedroom.

throwing on a bomber jacket and sturdy boots, tempest laments that she can't layer up, for it was too warm. even the jean shorts and tank top under her jacket were too much. taking her father's rosary, she wraps it around her neck. tempest felt it was closer to her heart, and to be honest if she kept it in her hand the woman feared she may lose it. she throws on a spacious backpack, ready to be filled with supplies. at least, that's what tempest hopes.

the first step she takes outside of the church is tentative. alert, tempest glances around, hand on her cross as she starts to make her way towards town. here goes nothing.

jasper lay on a torn up sofa, trying to catch a quick break before doing anything else for the day. while his patrol had been unsuccessful, he had managed to find a squash hidden away in an abandoned market stall. knox lay next to the couch, keeping an eye on the room. jasper had made plans to go scavenging later, but he would rather replenish his energy quickly than being sluggish and slow to react in a dangerous situation.

a girl wandered through the abandoned mall, "is this really where i'm supposed to be?" she was hesitant, but there was no reason to doubt the gods. she tried to be quiet, she wasn't sure as to who or what to expect. the only instructions she was really given was to meet a boy in the mall. as vague as it was, she complied, but all she had to do now was actually find this mystery boy. she travelled through the maze that was the mall, how was it possible to find a single person in such a big place. she rubbed the small sun tattoo on her wrist, "apollo, i hope you aren't sending me into trouble," she whispered.

knox perked up suddenly, jumping to his feet and looking around. the akita let out a soft grumble as he
looked towards the doorway. this grumble was enough to pull jasper out of his sleep, as the boy shot up
in a panic. "what is it boy? is there someone close by?" he whispered to the dog, confused as to why
somebody would find themselves here. jasper got to his feet slowly, this signalling to knox that he could
go and chase after whoever was there. "shoot." with a grumble jasper sprinted after the dog, he didn't
want there to be any more hassle.

the girl's eyes widened as she heard the clatter of nails on the tile floor, followed by a set of heavy
footsteps. she watched as a large dog turned the corner, and let out a squeak as it started barking at
her. as the bared its teeth a rather flustered boy turned the corner and grabbed the dog by the collar,
"shush you idiot." he said before looking up at the girl. he seemed taken a-back by her presence, almost
unsure of how to act around another person.

she was the first to speak, "are you jasper?" she questioned.
the boy appeared to relax slightly, "yes, and you are?"
"aspen, aspen ryder. apollo sent me here, his message mentioned something about medicine?"
"apollo? oh right, you must be the medic i asked for!"
"medic?"
"oh right, well i'm the leader of memento mori, although our numbers were cut to nearly zero recently..."
"right..."
"so, will you accept? you'd be head medic." at this point jasper was looking rather desperate, he
rubbed the back of his neck as he eyed the girl while making sure knox didn't do anything stupid.
"i don't think apollo would be too happy if i didn't. so i suppose i'll join you, although i want a little more
information on this 'group' of yours."
"well i'm glad to have you on board, aspen." he smiled gesturing for her to follow him as he turned to
walked back around the corner.

jasper took his time to explain how the group worked, along with the history. he watched as aspen eyed
the wall of rules, running a hand over some of the names. "they're all dead?" she asked, only to receive
a solemn nod in return.
