This is actually a question that some people largely debate, but I personally credit magic and energy for allowing the tools to work. Using these tools takes a lot of intuition and belief/trust in them. If you're largely skeptical and attempt a tarot reading then you may not be satisfied with your results, but if you envision them as a tool of enhanced knowledge and have a level of respect then you likely stand a better chance of interpreting what you receive. I believe this is in part due to the fact that you're not always given straightforward answers. Rather, you're given keywords or an idea and you must work with them to come to a concrete answer. As I said above, intuition is key.
