Hi, I used to breed rabbits so I know a lot about that...
Typically its around day 30 that they start to pluck fur, What breed is your rabbit?
Is this your first time breeding?

How soon do rabbits usually exhibit nesting behavior? I have a pregnant doe who started nesting way earlier then I think would be normal. I put a nest box into she had a place to start building it. But I'm wondering why it was so early (Day 20).

I had sister rabbits. Both were due around the same time, one loved to have her box right away to start making a good nest, the other would basically do it the day she gave birth. Both waited to pull hair out until the kits had arrived, just in case of things that they would take care of.

All you can do is make sure there is stuff in her pen so she can make the nest to her liking. I always placed straw on the bottom, shavings, maybe a cloth, then hay on top, to give the mother something to eat while going through the troubles.

It is the second time but the first was a miss and she is a New Zealand/Californian cross. She hasn't pulled fur yet.

So what do you mean by nesting? Just making a bowl in the hay?

She was pulling hay out of her feeder, which she has never done before, and putting it all in the corner. When I put the nest box in she put the hay in there.

I got my first litter a few days ago! There are 5 of them and all still alive. I'm a bit concerned about my other doe though. She is a year old but hasn't had kits. I've bred her before but they haven't taken. She has 3 more days to kindle for the last breeding but I know it can be hard for a doe to kindle if she gets a year or more. I don't know, it's just worrying me a bit.

I have 6 rabbits at the moment but I've had 12 at once before. I mostly own and breed orange Netherland dwarf rabbits but sometimes when my local rabbit shelter gets too full I will take some in. Here are some picks of the recent newborns!

They're so cute. How do yours sit still for photos? Mine are always wriggling and I need photos for my SAE presentation at the end of the year.
