Until you get the kitten, there's not much you can really do except make sure the house is ready and with places for your existing cat to go if he/she wants to get away. For example, we have a cardboard box, a cat tree with a hideaway and the cats we already have can free-roam the house. Our kitten isn't allowed in the kitchen or dining room or my parent's room so the older cats can escape to those places if they need to (also depends on whether your cat is an indoor or outdoor cat, definitely have escape places if he/she is an indoor). I don't really know what else you can do to prepare your cat until the kitten arrives (unless you've visited the kitten and have something that smells like him/her, that you could let your existing cat investigate?). Good luck :D

I'll see if I can get a blankie or something So Leo has some way to get used to the scent. Or like a shirt that I wear to see the kittens.

Leo is a chill cat, and hes still a baby (ish, 1.8 yrs) himself. I hope he takes well.

it's been a week and 2 days since i got my new kitten Charlie! He's 5 weeks old now and I still bottle feed him and he's starting to learn how to play, jump, and run now! he keeps following me wherever i go whenever he's awake now and he's so cute when he jumps like i was sitting on my bed which is like 3 feet tall and like i said he follows me he sat, stared and meowed at me and attempted to jump on my bed and he only got off the floor for like 3 inches from it and it's so funny and cute and he did it for 2 more times until i carried him to my bed. he's so precious :')

That is adorable. He will be such a loving kitty. A little off topic but similar, I got my puppy at 5 weeks old, she is now 3 years old, and one of the best dogs I have ever owned. I am sure your kitty will be the same.

yeah well my friend couldn't handle him anymore since they have 10 cats in a very small house so she gave him to me and im aware of the fact that they should be at least 8 weeks but I've handled kittens that age already and he's actually doing really great right now and is very happy he have already explored our apartment running and walking around and he's really healthy so no need to worry.

Loki is almost fifteen weeks now and it's been three weeks since we got him :D Feels like we've had him forever!

Since my last post, we've taken him to the vet and been thoroughly embarrassed (and guilty) about the fact that poor little Loki absolutely HATED it. He scratched the vet nurses and had to be burrito-ed in the back room. As a result, they couldn't get him microchipped so he'll be getting that done when he goes to get neutered (at 16 weeks... I just realised how soon that is, oh no!). He's going to the vet on Friday for his second round of jabs and we've purchased a de-stress spray to help him cope.

Apart from that, life with Loki has been crazy and amazing. We've been able to get to know him and form a relationship. He's a very bold, persistent kitten and also incredibly clumsy. Our 18yr old cat isn't too fond but the 3yr old is interested in Loki, and has started trying to play with him a little bit. The Labrador loves Loki but our spaniel is terrified (Loki keeps biting her, jumping on her, chasing etc.). He really likes to push his luck with the dogs and other cats but he's learning, I guess.

Loki is also very loving (when he wants to be) which I suppose comes from the Ragdoll in him. He's started to headbutt me and rub up against me, and will happily cuddle when he's feeling a bit sleepy. Coming from the Bengal side, though, is his absolute craziness! He runs up and down the halls, will play with the dogs, loves to chase toys, climb the cat tree etc. Like most cats, he also adores cardboard boxes and watching the fish. Loki also seems to like watching TV haha.

His coat is also starting to change! He's so much darker since we got him - along the neck and spine, and more stripes around the legs. The M on his head is darker as well. And he's so TALL now. It's scary that he's grown so much in 3 weeks. I'm so glad that we got him, no matter how crazy or clumsy he is, and I can't wait to see what the future holds in store :)

Went to a cat cafe with adoptable cats yesterday, and met a sweetheart named Mallory that I absolutely fell in love with. Just gotta convince the rest of my household to love her like I do! I miss having a cat around and being able to contribute to this thread, and I'm hoping I'll adopt sweet little Mal soon so I can have a crazy demon running around the house at the crack of dawn. Is it weird that I can barely fall asleep without the sounds of someone keeping me awake?

(Not to promote other threads here, but Forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=4170418 is a thread about pet safety on Halloween that might help you keep your kitties safe and sound.)
