Clue 2: I thought of Harry Potter. Could you be referring to the Dementors who appear in that chapter, or to Sirius Black?

Y'know ...in the movie(maybe the book too) in said chapter, Sirius does show up as his animagus form. Which is a large black dog, also known as a Grim.
A grim resembles many other tales about said dogs from folklore. The pallet does have a very dark color in it...food for thought.

Yep, I just realized that too! Sirius is also the name of a star.

No it does not have minion yellow (#f5e050) on it.
