Lucas Searoby

Lucas stood alone at the platform, as had been standard procedure for the last seven years. He didn't have anyone to see him off to school. No one at the boy's home cared if he was gone. He suspected they were more likely to be
relieved. His face was nestled into a scarf, which was frayed and worn from years of daily use. His robes were shabby, faded, and bore holes near the trim. His shoes were just as atrocious: black leather work boots, scuffed and worn, the laces too long. He was hardly dressed like a proud Ravenclaw.
To match his ghastly clothes was his waifish appearance. His hair was bedraggled, black curls uncontrolled. His skin was deathly pale, and even as his stood in the shade away from the sun, threatened to blind any who looked at it. His eyes sported heavy bags underneath. Every year, he would come to school looking like death after a summer of not being allowed blood. The foster home refused to provide it for him, and Lucas wasn't one to go around hunting for it. He could survive on human food alone, if just barely. Once he got to Hogwarts, he would visit the school nurse to be given a bag of blood nicked from the human blood bank. One bag a week was his allotment, and it made all the difference in the world.
Silently, the boy entered the train and made his way towards the back. The compartments back there filled up last; he knew this by heart. As soon as he had a seat, he pulled the book he'd chosen to travel with from his bag. The dustcover read
5000 Potions and Their Applications , however, it was suspiciously ill-fitted on the actual book.
He settled in and flipped to his bookmark. A couple other students began to enter his compartment, took one look at him, and promptly left to find a seat elsewhere. Lucas had...a
reputation around the school. Many saw him as suspicious, shifty, and some even claimed evil. He never bothered to correct them, which honestly didn't help his case much. Lucas wasn't evil, but he wasn't the most socially adapted either.
