Froststar stood up, and stretched his legs. "I want to lead a patrol, over to the northern border then. I would like to see if what you claim about the coyotes leaving is true." He told Wildpaw. He wanted to know for certain that the coyotes were really moving out of the forest. Froststar faced Reedpaw who was still sitting down, "Would you like to come? Smokenose can always use a break." He suddenly realized that another dog was sitting not too far away, and glanced over at Foxpaw, who was to the side. "Do you need something?" He asked kindly.

Reedpaw listened closely to Froststar, wondering if he knew how worried he was making Wildpaw be. He didn't think he was doing it on purpose... Reedpaw spotted Wildpaw looking towards the medicine den, and saw Foxpaw sitting off to the side, looking rather shy. It was because of this that he hadn't heard Froststar's question right away. "Oh! Sure. Wildpaw, do you want to come?" He said, smiling at her, before realizing that he probably shouldn't have invited another dog along for the patrol without the leader's permission. Oh, whatever. It's not like he's going to actually care, right? I mean, if he wants ME to come, Reedpaw the tiny would-be medicine dog, surely he won't mind Wildpaw. He brushed these thoughts aside, and, hearing Froststar ask if Foxpaw needed anything, cocked his head, listening.

He was being out for a small hunt and collecting some herbs to the same time, he knows that Foxpaw got with the alpha and some other apprentices, but he didn't really mind. He was not exactly close with the medicine dog apprentice, mostly because he was not being an official medicine dog, he was actually a half warrior.

Her head perked up in sudden alertness as her alpha addressed her. Noticing that all of them were now watching her, she straightened up and put extra care into making sure her voice would sound clear. Certain. "I want to retrieve some herbs and I know that the seniors of the Pack wouldn't want me going by myself. Would you like to accompany me?" She bit her lower lip lightly, knowing in the back of her mind how dishonest she was being by phrasing her question and situation how she did; it wasn't really a choice to go out to retrieve something better because she basically didn't have anything, and that put the Pack at risk. Perhaps it would've been better to just ask Inkfeather what he thought, but Foxpaw wasn't even sure she wanted his opinion. He was only distantly her mentor and he seemed more a warrior than a medicine dog to her, if she was honest. Her eyes flicked between dogs - mostly between the massive apprentice, Wildpaw, and the imposing leader, Froststar - but her exterior was otherwise calm and collected.

Wildpaw looked up at the other apprentice, a little taken aback by his invitation. It wasn't often that other young dogs wanted her around, and she could imagine why; it could be frightening to have such a huge dog nearby when they were entirely liable to emotional outbursts. This gesture of camaraderie meant more to Wildpaw than it probably meant to Reedpaw, but she'd keep that to herself. "Sure," she replied at last, a big smile brightening her face. She then glanced over at her mentor, hoping that he wouldn't object, and finally to Foxpaw. She didn't know what to make of the medicine dog apprentice. On one paw, she was pretty, generally good-natured, and seemed to have her life together, but on the other, Wildpaw often noticed these little cracks in her facade of confidence, which unnerved her.

Huh. That's definitely a lie, Reedpaw thought, listening to Foxpaw. Well... not exactly a lie, but it wasn't truth, either. Yes, the elders wouldn't want her to go alone, yes she probably wanted to gather herbs, but Reedpaw knew that she went gathering herbs by herself all the time, and seniors wishing she wouldn't never stopped her. Well, more dogs on this patrol, I suppose. If Froststar was hoping for stealth, he has just been disappointed. But maybe a bigger group was better, if it involved coyotes. "Sure!" Reedpaw said cheerfully to Foxpaw. "More dogs, the better, right?" Ah. He had just spoken before and for the leader. Again. Really, Reedpaw, try to maintain just a MILD respect for your leader, because right now you are treating him like he's a buddy and fellow apprentice.

Frostar started to get annoyed with Reedpaw, but decided not to express it. "If you don't mind to go on a patrol along the border, then yes, you can come." He replied, he wasn't going to let an apprentice speak for him. "If that's all settled, then lets go."

"Ah. Yeah, that's fine. Thank you, Froststar," Foxpaw answered, a little hesitantly. She wasn't sure how much the borders offered in terms of herbs anymore and she didn't want to be around this many dogs at once for an extended period of time, but she now felt obliged to agree; saying no just because she didn't want extra apprentices to come would be rude and, know them well or not, she didn't want to hurt their feelings. Instead, she just hurried ahead, adjusted to being able to travel at her own, fast, constant pace from many solo-trips. Despite that she had wanted to bring along another dog to avoid as much, she still felt a little nervous about the possibility of encountering a dangerous creature while scouting. She certainly didn't want to rely on their ability to detect a threat alone, so she remained on high alert while she kept her eyes peeled for marigold, poppy seeds, and horsetail, three herbs that she knew from experience were multipurpose and incredibly useful.

She couldn't help but emit a small chuckle, disproportionately squeaky and high-pitched to her huge frame, when Reedpaw accidentally disrespected her mentor for a second time. She quickly stopped, mildly embarrassed at how silly the laugh sounded, and started after Foxpaw. It struck her as odd, how eager Foxpaw was both to scout for herbs and also to get ahead of her companions, but she wouldn't comment on it. Wildpaw ended up naturally falling into step with Reedpaw, and whispered to him inconspicuously, "Thanks for inviting me to come."

Reedpaw grinned back at her. "Yeah, well, I kinda spoke out of turn one-too-many times, and perhaps then going alone would have been... quiet? Awkward? Somewhat dangerous if I continued on like that?" Reedpaw whispered back, careful to keep his voice down, while trying not to burst out laughing. He turned to watch Foxpaw speeding ahead of the group, rigid, with her ears on the alert, her eyes constantly moving, her nose twitching. Looking for herbs, or for threats? Reedpaw couldn't be sure, as herbs were her mission, but she was so fidgety and nervous all the time, you would think she was afraid that the grass might try and eat her.

Froststar sped up his pace to reach Foxpaw, he slowed down a little to be behind her, wondering if Foxpaw would lead the way correctly. As he had passed Reedpaw, and Wildpaw he caught part of their conversation he hadn't paid enough attention to Reedpaw before now, but Froststar realized that he disliked Reedpaw more then some of the other apprentices, though he was the future of the camp, and Frostar couldn't ignore his potential to be strong warrior no matter if he disliked him or not. He thought to himself quietly though.I thought it was clear that Wildpaw, would come. Even if Reedpaw didn't say anything, she was the one to find the coyote.

It occurred to Foxpaw that she could describe the appearance of the best herbs to her companions, so that they could look for them, too, but she wasn't sure that their skills were even necessary here, so she didn't bother. Plus, she didn't want to talk more than she needed to, especially when so many dogs were present. Suddenly, a sweet, familiar scent hit the medicine dog apprentice's nose. Honey! She sped towards it without so much as a word, some of her plentiful anxiety instantly dissolving with both that news and the relief that came of seeing that no creature was in the path to it. Sure, bees scared her terribly, but the possibilities of what she could do for her Pack with such a flexible medicine were reassuring. She could save them if they became infected, help them rest through any pain they had, give energy to the overworked warriors, and - Foxpaw suddenly dug her nails into the soil, just barely stopping in time to avoid rolling down into one of the most frightening things imaginable: Water. There was indeed honey, but it clung to the beehive in the tree that hung dangerously over the rippling surface. Of course it would be there. She shivered at the sight, a tremor rushing through her heart. She tried to play it cool, deciding that the honey wasn't worth risking herself with water, tearing her eyes away from the horrible sight while she kept walking past the lake, as if she hadn't seen anything interesting in the first place.

She involuntarily chuckled again, though she managed to stop before her voice became squeaky once more. The stump of her missing tail twitching in the manner it did whenever she was content or joyful, she whispered, "You play a dangerous game with my mentor, Reedpaw. You're going to get some scary looks, if you're not careful." Her joke about Froststar's kindness and lack of serious punishments was meant to be funny and lighthearted, of course, but Wildpaw almost instantly felt a stab of regret. It felt wrong, jabbing at her mentor with no provocation, and her head sunk with the sudden bad feeling. You should be grateful that he is so understanding with someone like you, not scornfully amused. She didn't have much time to silently belittle herself, however, as Foxpaw suddenly dashed ahead. Wildpaw exchanged a bewildered expression with Reedpaw before she put on extra speed to catch up with the faster apprentice. She became even more puzzled when Foxpaw halted abruptly, stared forward, clearly interested in something ahead, and then just kept walking like nothing even happened. "Uh...Foxpaw?"
