“What?” The nervous young man who had come to their borders looked from the man sitting in the chair to the woman on his right. “I-“

”Kill her.” He repeats, jerking his chin in the direction of the woman, who takes a frightened step back.

Pain flits across his features and Leo, standing beside him, glances at him worriedly. Nevertheless he grips the arms of the chair tightly, baring his teeth.

”If you want to join our ranks, then kill her. If you don’t, you cannot ever return and I will do it myself.” His words are sharp, and the woman flinches.

“Bryn, please, there must be another way.” The woman pleads, trembling, and he turns his gaze onto her.

”No, there isn’t, Iana. You are far too soft, both for this world and for the Nighthunters. We should have killed you when we got the chance.”

She begins to weep, but everyone, including Jonathan, ignores her cries.

“I’ll do it.” Jonathan says finally, and Bryn inclines his head.

”Then do not disappoint.”

After it is done, and Mira had taken away the body to be buried, Bryn turns to Jonathan.

”I’m impressed. What is your name?”

“Jonathan Reyes.” He responds, and Leo hands him a piece of cloth to clean his hands off with.

”Welcome, Jonathan, to the ranks of the Nighthunters.” He doesn’t look away from him, even when Mira returns. ”Admiral Thamuz will show you around.”

chapter 1
wren sighed, staring at the flower she had been admiring. it wasn't the flower's fault, of course. wren found it to be gorgeous, although it was technically a weed. she had been lost in thought, or lack of thought. she very much missed having someone around. wren wasn't the most talkative of people, but she enjoyed the silent company of others. the only living thing to converse with was flint, her loyal dog, but he didn't talk back.
oh, well. perhaps i'll meet someone while i'm out.
"flint!" the almost hairless dog stopped sniffing the ground and trotted up to wren, gladly accepting head pats from her. "let's go and see if we can find something to eat."
they had ran out of food and wren decided they needed to go hunting before they began to starve. there wasn't much to do and wren didn't need to waste time sitting around. patrolling was always a good idea, especially since having a concrete goal helped wren stay focused. without a purpose, her mind would wander and the thoughts that occupied her tended to be rather unpleasant.
ever since the world took a turn for the worse, gwendolyn and her older brother had stuck together. jake, who was 3 years older than gwen, let her stay at his home. they got through each day together. if one person was feeling down, the other could always cheer them up. they divided work among themselves and were there for moral support. the two made a good team, even though they weren't really close before. sometimes, gwen felt as if everything would be alright. that was, until 2 weeks ago.
it was like any other day. jake went out on a supply run, scavenging for anything useful, while gwendolyn stayed at home. there is no sugar-coating it. he never returned. the 19 year old went out and looked for him, but she knew in her heart that something must have gotten him. she didn't want to believe it and fell into a depression, almost never leaving the house. gwendolyn used up almost all of the reserves before she came to realize that she couldn't just sit there. she took flint and the supplies and ventured out to find a new home. jake's home just brought too many emotions with it.
"right," wren muttered, not wanting to think about that any longer. "let's go."

I had really bad writer's block for this post so just posted my notes for now, sorry for the bad grammar ;v;
>>> (ian pov) ian was reading in a book when he was interrupted by the sound of the door creaking open. jordan walks in with a bloodied arm, juno at her side with blood on his muzzle. Ian puzzles together what happened and looks at jordan's wound, he asks what zombie attacked her to which she replies "lurcher". ian replies "that it's unsettling, one of them is some close to here" in which jordan deadpans "not anymore". ian thinking to himself that she's lucky that it didn't get take off her arm all together. mentally commenting on how she apparently seems to have been to a medic many times because she does little to get in his way. ian jokes about the timing/luck of her finding a medic before being injuries. jordans replies that she could take care of it on her own and then adds she's grateful for his help though. ian asks her how she learned to take care of wounds, she replies something along the lines of about not having much of choice and/or not well adding that in large group fighter or ranks like are expendable. (she probably would also touch a bit on her history and going to many different groups) ian questioned do you think that could be fixed, jordan answers doubtful of change because the leaders didn't want to. ian asked if she was a leader would she change it, jordan laughed dryly at the thought of being leader, she said she was a fighter and always would be, commenting on how he seemed to ask a lot of basic questions about the world after the Armageddon- jokey saying "what rock had he been under". ian replies describing the hospital as "the rock" and mentioning how it was far from pleasant (he pretty much just got out of there). probably mentioned that had a ton of patients that caught the zombie-virus and that it was a hell. also mentioning the limited info that they had there. as many of them spent the last of there battery calling family members and friends. he mentions his sister jean being frantic and calling his parents number to get no reply. jordan asked him what they told them and ian replies there goodbyes, none of them thought they would survive as long as they did. jordan doesn't press for more details, which ian is grateful for.

>>> (jordan's pov) the next scene starts in middle of jordan and ian arguing about her going out. ian saying her wound could get infected (foreshadowing) and jordan says in a slightly-kinder way: that he has no fighting ability and would be zombie's dinner. she walk out commenting how it feel good to put a metal door between them. due to her injuries she decides that she's not going track the hour-or-so hike into the town and search an area nearby. she find the armor and on her walk back bumps into faith. she definitely asked if she could pet Juno which jordan replied it probably isn't a good idea because he doesn't know you. they talk, she joins - probably should write something with her meeting ian, they probably would get along.

[A week ago.]

The group turns a corner, only to be met with a sharp cry of surprise as Curtis halts abruptly, both Kelsa and Zachary immediately dropping into a fighting stance.

To their surprise - it was just a mere man, frozen with eyes wide as saucers, he quickly straightens himself when he sees that they’re only survivors, clearing his throat with a cough as he brushes down his ruffled clothes.

“Ah, people like me. What a sight for sore eyes.” he says, albeit too cheerfully - probably in an attempt to mask his embarrassment. The man quirks an eyebrow at Curtis’s confusion, which then quickly changes to interest as the Count notices a black object in the stranger’s belt.

“You’ve got a gun there, kid?” he says, “Why’re not dangerous, just a group of people soughting sanity and safety in this fallen place, say, would you like to join us?”

The stranger lets a small smile etch across his lips, a glimmer in his eyes as he steps closer to Curtis.

“Wyatt Qarson, pleased to make your acquaintance.”

[Now.]

The air was heavy with a musky scent, sunlight peeked through little cracks and holes of the ceilings and lighting the desolate inn just the slightest bit. Curtis looks about, hope and comfort blooming in his chest as he surveys the empty place eagerly.

“I think this would be a good place, hidden behind streets and houses, a reasonably narrowed alley that could potentially shield us from hordes, an abundance of rooms enough to accommodate the future of Cavalier. This...this is the one.”

The rest of the group breaks off to examine the aged furniture and wood of the tavern - it had a grand lobby, or at least, what remained of it, dust and spiderwebs littered every inch of surface, a narrow staircase wounded up to the second floor of the building which led to the sleeping quarters, each big and spacious enough to house at least two. There was an adjoining stable to the outside, which, after some adjustments and upgrading, could easily house multiple horses from threats.

But there was much work to be done, such as repairing the caved in ceiling and the chipped parts of the walls, complete with strengthening the outside should the group want to mark it their base forever. Curtis goes to find Zachary - who was busy making sure that the place was free of the undead before he notices the new company, and a child-like grin forms across his face.

“Welcome home, Cavalier.”

The world fell apart. Thousands we

the death of Madi’s mother and fat
her. Many fled and were never hear
d of again, or died and were soon r
e-animated. But Madi, she rose abo
ve it all, and drove the decaying ro
tten, walking undead to the ground
where they belong, protecting her
home. And so Sanctum wasn’t lost,
but saved by their new leader, thei
r doors open to the survivors of a w
orld that had gone to hell. Now, un
der Madi’s reign, may they flourish
and grow with the favor of the gods.

Sanctum is a large region, a part of
a country known as Gamma, their b
orders stretching far and wide. The
people live in small but spacious ho
mes with their leader, the Queen/K
ing, their spouse, and their children
in the largest. The houses are typic
ally over water, or facing water. Sa
nctum also consists of fields, moun
tains, and others once you have lef
t the forest.
