Ebonyflash felt his pelt heavy with dread as he caught up with the others. "At the gathering, and nobody saw it?" He felt his legs shaking as he thought about his family and friends being picked off around him. He felt so useless. He looked around at his clanmates, trying to discern who it could've been.

Crane-eye glanced over as Ebonyflash joined them. "I do find that a bit strange," she murmured, tail flicking. "All we heard was Flycry's screech," she explained. "I'm going to go tell Salmonflame," she told the others, before walking over to where Salmonflame was talking with the WindClan deputy. "Salmonflame, I need to talk to you," she whispered quietly, urgency in her voice.

xxXxxSalmonflame still had internal debates on the scraem he heard earlier. He mentioned to the wind clan deputy on the shortage, just as he turned to notice Crane-eye whispering in his ear. From the look of urgency in her voice and that the sight he saw from Ebonyflash, clearly there must've been another innodent. Again? He thought shaking his head. Not during a meeting! The deputy stood up on his paws, before managing to escuse himself from the conversation. "Did you or another cat find who screamed the bit ago? Yes, I heard that too and that's already worrying in "this" moment of time." His eyes were trained to not hold his disbelief and his usual rotten anger along his clanmates, surely the other leaders knew of that, right?

"Yes, it was Flycry," Crane-eye murmured softky, her tail flicking. "Don't know who did it, but I fear for the rest of the clans," she murmured.

the four clans were tense upon hearing the screech. when the source was found to be a dead flycry, tensions only grew. thunderclan murmured amongst themselves. members of shadowclan were anxiously checking the sky. windclan was bunched close, a few cats pacing back and forth. riverclan was eerily still and silent.

"thunderclan!" boomed a voice from the leaders' tree. astonishingly, it wasn't halfstar, but shadowclan's leader, smokestar. "what is the meaning of this? disrupting a gathering in such a way? i demand this be settled immediately." he shook out his fur and glared toward thunderclan's leader. "with your numbers, halfstar, i'd imagine at least some semblance of respect for your fellow clan leaders."

halfstar flinched, though held her stance on three paws and cleared her throat to speak to her clan. "this has plagued us for far too long," she announced, staring down at the clearing. "we will hold another vote. by the end of this gathering, our curse will be gone."

votes were cast. the sky was still clear.

"very well, then," meowed halfstar as she scanned the clawmarks that had been scratched into the bark. clambering back up to a branch, she looked over her clan once more. "ebonyflash, you are hereby exiled from thunderclan. should you return, our warriors will not hesitate to attack."

with flattened ears and a tail tucked between his legs, ebonyflash dashed out of the clearing. he hopped on the tree-bridge, only to find his paws slipping. he struggled to find a clawhold, but before he could, he tumbled into the water, becoming just another shadow beneath the lake.

there were no clouds in sight.

salmonflame scanned the near-empty camp. despite everything, he had managed to convince halfstar to keep up a night guard. he sighed, the only noise in camp aside from the rustling leaves above. the clan was so small now. eleven deaths (presumably; the clan had deemed rosefeather dead after she had disappeared and never returned), nine exiles. nine cats who could be stuck without a place to go. without a home. the thought made him sigh more.

"careful there," mewed a cat from behind him. he dug his claws into the ground as to not flinch or jump at the sound. "keep sighing like that and you'll run out of air very quickly." biting back a growl, he slowly turned around to face the cat.

“and what are you doing up so late at night?” salmonflame inquired, voice nearly a hiss. “you should be in your nest by now. patrol isn’t until dawn.”

they shrugged. “was hungry. planned on going out to hunt.”

“that’s no excuse for being up this late,” grunted the deputy. “it’s not safe. ebonyflash might be anywhere.”

“i thought he was going to be shredded if he ever stepped foot on our territory again.”

“yes, but we can’t do that at night. we haven’t yet gotten to organizing night patrols yet.” salmonflame glanced over to the warriors’ den, where every cat left in thunderclan usually slept. even with halfstar in it, the den looked so empty from the outside. his next words went unspoken: and i don’t think we ever will.

“that’s fine,” the killer meowed, a wide yawn splitting their face. “i suppose i’ll just have to shred you.”

he was puzzled. “you mean-- it was you…”

he could hardly get out any more before the killer slashed at his neck. caught off guard, he stumbled and tried to keep his footing, ignoring the stinging pain. they chirped in the delight of seeing him struggle.

“yes, yes, it was me, you knew it all along, blah blah blah. let’s just get on with it. i can’t have anyone getting in my way.” rearing up, they slammed their paws down on salmonflame’s back, forcing him to the ground.

with the wind now knocked out of him, salmonflame desperately fumbled to put together words. the murderer gently silenced him with their paw.

“come on, now. i told you that you would run out of air.”

they slashed and bit at his vulnerable belly, keeping one paw on his chest to pin him down. when the job was done, they settled themself down by the fresh-kill pile and feasted on a mouse.

get it right, thunderclan! you don’t have much time left.

Apricotbreeze awoke to the sickening scent of blood in the air. She hurriedly rushes out of the den, not bothering to groom her fur. What she saw was a horrid sight, Salmonflame’s body torn and ripped to pieces in the center of camp. Apricotbreeze’s atomah churned as she looked at the horror. So the killer had struck again... she thought of the cats who were now left: salmonblaze, halfstar, crane-eye. She repeated those names through her mind as she stared at the body, she couldn’t bring herself to scream, it was too terrible. salmonblaze, halfstar, crane-eye. salmonblaze, halfstar, crane-eye. Who could have possibly done this? Brought horror to thunderclan like this! It made the young warrior nervous that she was living with a murderer, which one of the three names that she kept repeating through her mind could it be? She couldn’t trust any cat. Apricotbreeze glanced back at the mouth of the warrior’s den, the others would have to know about this. She raced towards the den and looked inside, letting out a panicked yowl, quite matching the turmoil of feelings she had inside. “help! Salmonflame is dead!”

Crane-eye startled awake as Apricotbreeze called into the den. "I'll go get Halfstar," she meowed, getting to her paws. Padding over to the leader's den, she called in. "An
"Salmonflame is dead," before waiting silently to be acknowledged.
