I'll try to help with my limited knowledge since I
hoard these bad boys for my wall lmao
so Marvel was the first Transformers comic maker, back from the mid 80s that still goes to today i believe! so if you want to start from the very very beginning, I'd start at the old 80s Marvel comics. They're expensive as heck but they're the beginning, though not reading them won't hurt you any. They created the GI Joe/Transformers and Avengers/Transformers crossovers.
Dreamwave ended up taking the Transformers name and started making their own comics. most of theirs follow some of the cartoons, like Armada and Energon and Beast Wars, and also took over Transformers/GI Joe crossover. these are personally my favorites because of the art style. I love Dreamwave's art
But Dreamwave didn't last long, and in 2004 IDW took their publishing rights to make their own sequence of transformers comics. IDW has an absolute boatload of TF comic series - including the MTMTE and Lost Light series! If you choose to start with the MTMTE series make sure you know the cover very well, they usually have that red top with the "Transformers More Than Meets the Eye" in white capital letters - there are two More Than Meets the Eye series, though if I remember correctly one is Dreamwave, but it's easy to get the two mixed up if you don't know what you're looking for.
And there are some Indie publishers that didn't really do much like 3H and Benchpress, the only other big name publisher I can think of is Devil's Due Publishing which was with Dreamwave for a while and then split when they had two separate ideas for comics. Their art is pretty close to Dreamwave, but they don't really do much except the Transformers/GI Joe crossovers
so basically, if you wanna start from square one do Marvel, if you wanna follow the cartoons do Dreamwave, and if you wanna follow the cool and hip comics that everyone else is into then do IDW
in my personal opinion I'd recommend IDW since it's actively publishing TF comics and the TF fanbase online is usually following IDW closely, but there's really no wrong series to start with, they generally don't follow after one another so you don't
really have to worry about the series you start with too much
if you want a little bit more info there's always a
wiki for transformers comics that outlines it a little bit better lol
