badgerstar watched his clan gather beneath him. satisfied, badgerstar began to address the cats below. "cats of creekclan," he began, straightening his posture and eyeing the crowd with piercing green eyes. "as we know, the flood has made no signs of lowering; rather, the opposite. its levels are threatening to flood the camp in just a matter of days. so, after a careful amount of thinking-" badgerstar paused, shooting emberhaze a look. "-it's been decided that creekclan will temporarily be moving our camp until the water levels lower." he meowed, ensuring his voice was bold and powerful, listening proudly as he heard it echo back to him. "however, we aren't sure of another place that can sustain the clan. so, i will be sending a small patrol out to find a new place to settle. this patrol will be led by emberhaze," badgerstar's voice became a growl, hating the fact that emberhaze had been right about this entire plan. giving his old rival a curt nod, he continued. "and i want cedarwatch to go with her." he meowed, nodding to the dark tabby she-cat sitting in the clearing. the mouse-brain hadn't come back with any prey from patrol, so she could make herself useful elsewhere.

badgerstar paused before continuing on this the announcement. "i want one more cat to go with them, though," turning to nightpaw, who had been seated close by, badgerstar leaped off the rock and padded up to the black apprentice. he didn't address her at first, though. "nightpaw went on a hunting patrol today, and although it seems as though all the prey has went into hiding because of the rain, she managed to catch something, as well as successfully worked with her mentor to kill another piece of prey. she is of the age to be a warrior, and has proved herself time and time again." badgerstar meowed, forcing himself to sound sentimental for the sake of this apprentice. frankly, he couldn't care less about what she did or how she did it. he just wanted more warriors. "i, leader of creekclan call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. she has trained hard and proven herself to be an excellent warrior." badgerstar meowed, a begrudging undertone laced in his voice as he mentioned starclan. our ancestors are cowards; they have no idea what it means to be a truly powerful warrior, badgerstar thought to himself before turning to nightpaw. "nightpaw, do you promise to defend your clan, even at the cost of your life?" he inquired, awaiting the eager apprentice's answer.

honeybee gave a brisk nod and dropped her thrush on the pile. she warily padded after morningfern and sat next to the older warrior. "hope you don't mind if i sit with you," honeybee whispered to the she-cat as badgerstar spoke loudly from the highstone. she listened to the mention of moving camps, and frowned. she didn't want to move camp, even if it was just temporary. she knew better than to speak out at a clan meeting though - not that it was really in her nature to do so either way. giving a soft sigh, she listened as badgerstar droned on. then, it was nightpaw's turn to become a warrior. bursting with pride, she felt an uncontrollable smile spread across her face. honeybee's tail flicked back and forth in anticipation as she watched her now former apprentice be approached by badgerstar. honeybee nudged morningfern excitedly, with the same energy as a kit exiting the nursery for the first time. "that's her!" she breathed. "look at nightpaw! i couldn't be more proud!"

the meeting was as it usually was, a time for badgerstar to just hear himself and boost his already inflated ego. emberhaze rolls her copper eyes at the tom as he tries to play off her ideas as his own wise thinking, giving him an unimpressed look in return as he gives her a sharp look while speaking. as if he could come up with such good ideas on his own. good thing she's still in the clan to whisper in his ear like some kind of devil on his shoulder. or at least a nagging voice to wear him down until he relents. the she-cat scowls at badgerstar when he mentions a small patrol group going scouting with her in the lead. she had wanted to go alone on a solo mission, something she can do easily and quickly. having a group will make the mission take forever and drive her insane with their nonstop 'friendly' chatter. of course he would want to punish her in any way he could for her sass earlier.

emberhaze has to physically swallow a growl when the cursed tom also appoints cedarwatch to the scouting group. the other she-cat didn't seem to be a good hunter and has the same annoying 'confidence' that most of the toms do. emberhaze has made a point of ignoring such cats since they annoy her to no end with their poorly inflated egos, acting as if they should be revered for their skills. bleh. as if to make things worse, badgerstar decides to tack on nightpaw, the newly appointed warrior. why does starclan hate her so much? though it wasn't really starclan's doing, but badgerstar's. that tom will definitely get a good ear lashing when this is over. emberhaze flops into a lounging position, laying instead of sitting while also glaring daggers into the long-furred tom nearby. so much for having at least half a friend in this wretched clan, though she's always wondered if the leader would consider her at least somewhat of a friend. guess he doesn't. rivals it is then. she can play his game.

Nightpaw finally got the confidence and then
said " I do." she gave a hard gulp. She couldn't
believe that she was going on a patrol! She
wish it wasn't with emberhaze though. Maybe
a more nice cat. She gave a grumpy sigh. She
supposed that just going on a patrol, was enough.
She knew every cat had eyes on her. She felt
pride swell in her chest. In no less than a whisper
she said "thank you honeybee for everything.."
She stood up and waited for her new proud name.
It seemed not even the wind blew. Everything was
silent. Almost too quiet. She was a bit sad to move
camps. She really loved the camp they were at. But
She'd guess she better not drown this moon.

badgerstar narrowed his eyes slightly as nightpaw thanked honeybee beneath her breath. badgerstar remembered giving honeybee an apprentice in hopes that it would make her less of a useless mouse-brain. clearing his throat, he cleared his mind of this and addressed nightpaw. "then, by the powers of starclan-" badgerstar huffed the word 'starclan'. "-i give you your warrior name. nightpaw, from this moment forward, you will be known as nightsky. starclan honors you for your dedication and skill, and we welcome you as a full warrior of creekclan." badgerstar meowed, tensely pressing his muzzle against the she-cat's muzzle. turning back to the clan, he stood up straight. "instead of the usual tradition of sitting vigil for the night, nightsky's first duty as a warrior will instead be to accompany cedarwatch and emberhaze on this search for a new camp. i would like to speak to those three cats before they leave; meet me in my den." badgerstar made eye contact with cedarwatch, nightsky, and emberhaze briefly. with one last terse nod, he leaped off the highstone. "the meeting is over." he meowed, listening as the clan began to cheer "nightsky! nightsky!" and headed for his den to meet the others.

honeybee squealed with excitement as badgerstar announced that nightpaw would now be nightsky. "what a beautiful name!" honeybee mewed with a twitch of her whiskers. as the ceremony ended, the cream and brown she-cat began cheering, "nightsky! nightsky!" as loud as she could. then, she raced over to nightsky and purred loudly. "congratulations, dear! you deserve this, and you're going to do amazing things for creekclan!" honeybee exclaimed enthusiastically, licking nightsky's shoulder.

it was both frustrating and annoying to have to wait for the little ceremony to end before she could dig into badgerstar. emberhaze's tail twitches several times as she not so patiently waits for the apprentice to get her warrior name and the meeting to be called to an end. once it was over, the warrior jumps up and angrily pads after badgerstar, her tail snapping around behind her. inside the leader's den, emberhaze lays into him once again just like before, though with much more anger. "how dare you, badgerstar!" she hisses, ears flat and tail lashing. her tone is kept low as to keep their conversation private from those outside, not wanting yet another intrusion. "you know i want to go on this mission alone, how could you stick me with two of the most insufferable cats in the clan? do you not want me to find a place this moon phase?" her voice was laced with anger and almost hurt from his actions, she had really been planning a solo mission or even just having one other warrior tagging along, someone she could actually stand.

the she-cat growls and hisses at the leader, but there was no threat of attack, she's just angry and frustrated. "i can do this mission in less then a week alone or even with one other warrior like maybe morningfern or even, stars forbid, you, but i refuse to go anywhere with cedarwatch or that kit, nightsky." it was quite a thing if she's willing to travel anywhere with morningfern or even badgerstar himself, too much dueling personalities, but she was dead set against those she's been set with. almost to show her desperation for going alone, she huffs an almost soul-deep sigh before speaking. "let me go alone, and i'll take an apprentice at the next full moon gathering." her tone changes completely from her angry hissing and growling to an almost soft and defeated level. she's been fighting against an apprentice, but if it means she can take the mission alone, she'll bite the bullet so to speak.

hearing emberhaze hiss his name behind him, badgerstar threw his head back and did the most dramatic eye roll he could, followed with an exasperated, drawn-out sigh. he turned to face emberhaze with narrowed, bored eyes as she blabbered on about how anti-social she was. badgerstar waited for the she-cat to finish her vent. as she spoke, her tone seemed to lose it's fury and became replaced with a sense of defeat. badgerstar felt a pang of sympathy. the feeling alarmed him, though, as he never felt sympathetic toward any cat after his mother was killed all those seasons ago. badgerstar gave his head a shake to try and rid the feeling from his mind - he and emberhaze may have been... friends... if you could even call it that, but badgerstar was the leader, and he wouldn't let any cat undermine his leadership. feeling himself about to relent, badgerstar stood up straighter and looked emberhaze straight in the eyes. "emberhaze, i told you already when we were on the border patrol that you would have a group going with you. i'm not letting one of my most competent warriors go alone and risk getting killed." badgerstar spat, and whatever sympathy he felt was quickly ebbing away and being replaced with the familiar icy feeling. "i'm not asking you to travel out of the forest, i just want you to find a decent camp location that's just far enough that the creek couldn't possibly reach it. this trip shouldn't take longer than two days." badgerstar continued with a lash of his tail.

when emberhaze mentioned that she would much rather go with badgerstar, the black tom felt his stomach sink. the relentless anxiety he had been feeling ever since the floods began poured back into his body. he quickly shook his head, ears flattening a bit. something deep within him told him that something dreadful was bound to happen if he left the camp for too long. badgerstar cleared his throat. "have you ever considered that maybe you're the insufferable one, and not them?" badgerstar inquired, but as the words left his mouth, he could feel that he didn't believe those words himself. he knew how annoying his overly-optimistic clanmates could be sometimes. badgerstar also knew he had to get his point across, though, and was deadset on his choice of nightsky and cedarwatch's accompaniment. "look, emberhaze. you're going on this patrol, and you're going with these cats. i..." the tom sighed and closed his eyes. he knew that when emberhaze normally fought, it was bickering and insults, but no one would ever end up hurt in the end. this time, though, badgerstar could feel the hurt radiating from emberhaze. "...i trust you to do this mission - more than any cat. so can you please just... trust me to send you with these cats?" badgerstar implored, and mildly surprised himself with the genuine - albeit awkward, seeing that he wasn't a very caring cat - tone to his voice.

The molly dipped her head in acknowledgement to honeybee's request as they sat side by side awaiting the meeting to begin. It was as if the world was holding it's breath while badgerstar spoke. Which merely added to his arrogance, of that morningfern had no doubt. She watched with a patient gaze, her emotions neatly schooled into a gentle mask. He addressed the rising waters which earned a satisfied huff from morningfern, at least he wasn't foolish enough to completely disregard the threat. After he announced a patrol would be leaving to scout out a temporary clan site she felt her pelt begin to crawl. Surely he wasn't going to send nightpaw out with them?

Sure enough as nightpaw was renamed nightsky and morningfern let out her yowls of approval and chants of the apprentices's name, nightsky was assigned to the patrol. Morningfern felt her face furrow, shattering her carefully constructed mask for the moment as she craned her neck to catch a glimpse of the new warrior through all of the joyous expressions and yowling around her.
She watched silently as honeybee practically trampled over three cats to get to nightsky and congratulate her. This left a small smile on morningfern's maw, their relationship was an honest one she'd give them that. Slowly the molly wound her way through the cats and up to honeybee and nightsky.

"Congratulations Nightsky!" morningfern purred giving the new warrior a gentle nudge. "Hey you'll be sleeping with us now in the warriors den," she added thoughtfully stealing a moment to glance at honeybee. "you've also got a big adventure ahead." the molly finally commented, her eyes falling on badgerstar who appeared in conversation with emberhaze. She narrowed her eyes slightly but returned her gaze to the new warrior and her previous mentor. "A beautiful name for a wonderful young molly, I'm proud to call you my clanmate." she genuinely added, relaxing as she realized just how tense she might have appeared.

the ruddy-furred she-cat sits silently as badgerstar retorts, her tail curled around her paws and her ears half flattened in unhappy state. though they do perked up for a moment when he calls her one of the most competent warriors of the clan. that much was clear, but it was still nice to hear it. emberhaze also scoffs softly at the mention of the mission only taking two days, only in his wildest dreams would it take so little time. "i've been in this forest since my kithood and i already know there's no where close enough to wait out the floods," she shakes her head at badgerstar with a bit of a shrug. "the camp won't be the only thing flooded, the whole forest floor will probably get covered with how low it sits compared to the creek beds." the she-cat was set on the fact that the mission will take around a week, especially now that she's forced to have not just one but two foolish cats join her.

emberhaze gives a snort when the dark tom calls her the insufferable one, a bit of humor breaking through her anger and disappointment. "of course i'm insufferable, i do it on purpose to keep the idiots at bay," she jokes half-heartedly, but wasn't really in the mood to joke like old times right now. the she-cat knows now she'll probably not change the tom's mind about going alone, though perhaps she can still try and sway him on having just one cat join her. before she can voice her pleas though, badgerstar cuts in with some surprising words. he trusts her? it wasn't a stretch to say he may trust her enough to hunt and keep the borders secure, but this was a deeper trust. this was him trusting her to save the clan from the floods, and that was quite a heavy responsibility.

emberhaze hesitates in her words for a moment, unsure what to say. does she trust him? he was an insufferable tyrant who grates on her nerves all hours of the day, but yes. yes, she trusts him. the tom's tone was a surprise as well, a genuine and almost soft tone that throws her for a moment. the she-cat's tail twitches with her slight confusion, but stills quickly. "i do trust you, badgerstar, with my life," she mews in response, her own voice softening to a previously never used kind of tone. how odd it was to speak in such a way to someone that always gets her hissing and spitting. "i trust your choice in sending a group, but i refuse to allow a fresh warrior to come along on such a time sensitive mission." though she relents on letting cedarwatch join her, emberhaze was still against nightsky going. "i know i'll have to leave the forest, even if just a little, to find us a suitable place to camp and it's far too dangerous for such an inexperienced warrior. she will only be a liability and cost precious time." emberhaze thinks quickly for a moment, trying to figure out where else to put the new warrior instead. "why not keep her on border patrols? have her run borders and keep alert for any signs of distress should we encounter any." it wasn't the most glamorous job, but it will keep the young warrior out of harms way and out of her way.

Nightsky trotted over to honeybee. "thanks!" she
said as she was thinking about what to say next.
"I could have never gotten here with out you,
honeybee. I'll never forget you." she gave a warm
smile then turned to morningfern. "Thanks morningfern,
and yeah I guess I will be sleeping in the warrior's den.
Nightsky was filled with happiness for a while but then
she glanced over and saw emberhaze and badgerstar
fighting. She couldn't make out what they were saying
but she got a weird feeling that it was about her. she
gave a sad sigh. Then to make matters worst she didn't
see timberpaw. She gave a sad lick and then shifted her
paws uneasily and then sat by honeybee.

badgerstar felt a bit flattered that emberhaze trusted him with her life, but his frustration flared again as she continued insisting that she didn't want nightsky to go. this was wasting precious time! if it weren't for emberhaze being so selfish, he would have sent the patrol off by now. badgerstar didn't dare say this out loud though, and instead took a deep breath. "i'm going to speak to nightsky. i'll present her with two options: joining your patrol, or another task i have in mind. if she chooses the other task, then you can go with just cedarwatch. but if she chooses to join this patrol, then you will let her on the patrol. got that?" badgerstar meowed firmly to emberhaze before whirling around and marching to the newly made warrior.

"nightsky!" badgerstar called sharply, giving her an icy stare as he approached her. "i know i just told you that i wanted you to join the patrol, but-" badgerstar paused, thinking that it probably wouldn't be wise to mention that emberhaze had vehemently begged him to take nightsky off the patrol. "-i have another task that i just thought of that you may wish to do instead: you've just become a warrior, and you've learned a lot in your apprenticeship. i feel as though our apprentices aren't learning enough battle techniques. so, if you choose to not join the patrol, you can instead spend a few days in charge of the apprentices and giving them intense, valuable lessons in battling and hunting." badgerstar explained the task briefly, shooting a glance at emberhaze for a heartbeat before continuing. "look, with the water levels rising, i feel as if there are more important things you could be doing for creekclan than sitting vigil overnight, like the tradition goes." the leader told nightsky. "so, the choice is yours. would you rather run some training sessions for the apprentices, or go with emberhaze and cedarwatch to find the new camp?"

honeybee purred with relief when nightsky said that she wouldn't forget about her. the cream and brown she-cat followed nightsky's gaze to a bickering emberhaze and badgerstar. honeybee couldn't hear what they were saying, but nightsky looked slightly disconcerted. does she think they're arguing over her? honeybee wondered. with a pang of sympathy, honeybee wrapped her tail around her old apprentice. she tried finding words of comfort to say to the newly made warrior, but before she could, she saw her brother marching over to speak to nightsky. honeybee cleared her throat and stood up. "i'll leave you to speak to him. let me know how it goes." honeybee whispered to nightsky before padding off.
