Store pets are in a separate rarity list on this thread due to the fact they are not re-released and therefore their rarities do not fluctuate the same way as monthly or special releases. Over time, their value will only increase (but very slowly). This mini-guide is designed to give you an idea of their comparative rarity at a specific point in time where they changed alongside general release pets. Pets that have not changed rarity since their release are not included here in order to strive for as much accuracy in rarity as possible.

What are rarities?
Rarity tags were first introduced in October 2009. Currently, rarities are calculated based on how many of each pet exists on active player accounts, and therefore how many accounts would be trading to obtain each said pet. Rarities are typically updated during the Mid Month Update (around the 15th of each month), where the pets from the previous month will be assigned their rarity tags and older pets may change.

Why do rarities change?
Rarities can go up or down as pets become rarer over time, when more are put into circulation (such as after the December 18th re-release), or due to fluctuations in the number of active accounts. Sometimes adjustments are made to the way rarities are calculated, and this can cause a bunch of pets to suddenly shift up or down at once. The biggest updates have been August 2012 when inactive accounts were first excluded from calculations and the "OMG so common" tag was introduced, then in the early months of 2014 where multiple drops in rarity occurred, and the January 2019 overhaul.

Are all rare pets worth the same?
Even though two pets may share the same rarity tag, that does not always mean they are equal in value. Older pets are generally considered to be more valuable than more recent pets of the same rarity, because the userbase has grown over time and there would arguably be less older rares than newer rares. However, we cannot know for certain where a pet sits on the "scale" of its rarity (whether it is close to the rarity below it, above it, or if it's in the middle) and the difference in trade value for pets with the same rarity tags is largely dictated by demand.

What about store pets?
Store pets cannot realistically be listed alongside other pets, as they are not re-released and their value only increases slowly over time. How you choose to value them in comparison to general release pets is up to you. In the past store pets would get "very rare" rarity tags after their first month in the store, and then decrease to "rare" the second month. Now store pets do not get rarity tags until they are taken out of the store, so these old changes are not recorded here. "First rarities" are only recorded after a store pet is no longer available to purchase. Store pets that have been VR since their release are placed based on the last month they were available in the store. Most store pets from 2012 onward have been VR since release, meaning there is insufficient data for their exact comparable value; so they are sorted by release but can arguably be treated as equal. However, pets that did increase from rare to VR are not the same value as the "VR since release" pets above them in that section; they are accurately placed based on what month they increased to VR. Rare store pets are sorted by any past VR fluctuations or, if they've always been rare, they are sorted by month of release.

Rarity tags were first introduced in October 2009. Rarities typically fluctuate after the December 18th re-release, and also from updates where inactive accounts are removed from calculations. The biggest updates have been August 2012 when inactive accounts were first excluded from calculations and the "OMG so common" tag was introduced, then in the early months of 2014 where multiple drops in rarity occurred, and the January 2019 overhaul. Rarities are typically updated every 1-2 months and because of this, a pet's place on the "lists" on this thread may move.

Not all pets can be placed accurately as they have had their current rarity tag ever since their release, but the lowest point they could be on the rarity "lists" is marked to give some indication of their comparable value. A big example of this is UR pets, which are typically OMGSR as soon as they are released so we do not have any rarity changes to value them as accurately as other pets with rarity fluctuations. Another example is store pets;
