Within a single moon, the Kiwanu Kennel has boomed in population, gaining eight new canines to join their ranks. Tafari was incredibly pleased, especially with her Daktari, Zuvan. iindentjericho brushed past dehydrated bushes, their foliage shriveled-up and lacking the rains, and panted heavily as the sun blazed his dark-furred backside in a sheen of sweat. his paw pads scraped across the cracked earth as it, too, lacked the sufficient nutrients to hold itself together, leaving a cloud of dust flitting through the air behind him. as the brute scanned his surroundings, he was almost completely certain he could be the only living being for miles of this deserted landscape, and to that he could be entirely sure. the heat that day was like no other──dry and arid, burning anything to a crisp, the sun shone endlessly overhead and contributed to the day’s effect. the shrubland of the chaparral could become completely silent, even still if you allowed yourself to be, but the brute knew better than to allow himself any rest, not when he had been at a constant almost all of that day. if he dared stop to take a rest, he couldn’t be sure whether he’d be able to pick himself back up and start along the journey once more, not in this condition.

iindentit wasn’t until after a bit more trekking that jericho was able to come across a very rare sight; a stream. the thing was on its last trickle, threatening to soak-up into the earth and disappear before their eyes, however not before the brute was able to lap at its cool waters to replenish his energy──but he could not stand there for long, as the rest of the route awaited him. and, nearly as soon as he had stopped, he was off again on his trail. but this time, his paws dragged and his panting drew heavier, deep breaths wracking into his chest, a process which slowed him down in the moments as he tried to keep himself going onward. before nightfall. he told himself, and to this he was wise. nightfall, as you know, in a hot and arid landscape could pose troubles with dangerous creatures that emerge from their caves and threaten a lone dog’s-life. jericho, having known this, could not risk being caught in the paws of a bloodthirsty coyote, and so he needed to move along, quickly.

iindentthe sun continued to reign overhead, but slowly its intensity lessened as a shadowed darkness overcame the landscape. only a few moments longer and suddenly the brute was trekking through the darkness, alone and exhausted. as his weary paws suddenly came to a halt, the alano español suddenly collapsed into the dirt and went out cold like a light switch as a cloud of dust swept over his form──but the sun would not be gone for long.

iindenta glowing light from the stars swept over the dog’s form, but he was unresponsive. a beetle cautiously crawled its way over his side to the other, but still he did not wake. finally, as the sun rose over the horizon and shooed the moon and stars away, jericho stirred. his eyes peered open over the ground and he licked his dry lips, leathery tongue tasting the sweat. he managed to shuffle himself into a sitting posture, facing the barren landscape with its shrubbery, and the occasional bug or bird here and there. had this journey been useless? had this all been for nothing, no gain? it wouldn’t be until the brute stood and turned did he realize he had reached his destination──in the darkening night, his exhaustion blurred his vision and by the time he sunk to the ground to rest, he hadn’t the chance to look around. before him now, an incredible sight of a rocky hillside took the breath from his lungs; he had made it.

Zai followed along the creek, hearing words from Udon throught the grand moon. He could swear he could hear the God's words, "Follow the creek to shimmering waters!" Zai was picking up a scent. It was of another dog, but different... There weren't anyone else nearby, but this wasn't just any dog. He knew it had to be the godly wolves!
He followed the scent along the creek, carrying his sheep-skin bedding. The white dog was soon coming up to a pond and waterfall. With the bright moonlight, the water almost looked glowing! Zai knew this must be it. This must be what Udon was leading him too. A place for dogs to not only respect the Gods, but a place of refuge for those in need. For the Gods' descendants to live and care for other wandering dogs. 'This is it.' He laid out his bedding by the cool pond water, soon falling into a deep, dreamless sleep by the calming sound of the waterfall.

────────────────────────────────[ The Next Morning ]────────────────────────────────

The white dog woke up fully re-energized! He stretched his body out, deciding to explore his new territory. Zai left his bedding by the ponds, knowing to come back to it later.
With his exploring, he soon came upon the abandoned hunting cabin very close to the sacred pond. He saw plenty of potential here, enough space for every dog that wanted to join! With a fit of excitement, he dashed out into the dense forest. He ran and ran as fast as his legs would take him. This would all be his!
Zai started to slow down as he was feeling a little tired. With a growl of his stomach, he decided it was time to start the pack duties and hunt, for soon there would others here with him.

It has been a hard time for the kennel the past few moons. The kennel is barely staying alive and even though more hunting parties are sent out, the kennel still risks starvation. The kennel looks helplessly as the newborn puppies cry for more food their mothers can't supply. Garland orders the mothers to get more food and even offered to skip out on meals so they get enough nutrients. Kalta begins to worry about Garland and suggests he eats. "You need your strength and a clear head if you are going to lead us out of these troubling times."
"How can I be a good leader if I'm eating while my kennel starves?!"
"Everyone here, including yourself, deserves food. You can't starve yourself. What if another kennel happens to come to our territory and finds our leader wasting away? What if the kennel is hostile? We look like an easy target."
"I don't know where all the food went. It disappeared from our territory. I can no longer hear birds chirp an it's not even winter yet. If this keeps up, then we will surely die."
"Don't think like that! There will be more food. We just have to keep looking. Maybe we need to send every able-bodied dog to hunt. I know you may not like it, but we have to take Leicester with us. She is starving too. Give her a choice: hunt for us or starve."
"That idea is horrible. She could run off and tell her kennel how weak we are and then for sure we'd get attacked."
"But keeping a dog here at all times to watch her is keeping two dogs from helping the kennel."
Garland sighed. "I'll think about it."

Summer had been convening with Leicester secretly for the past moons. Leicester has told her the Rose Grass' plots and entrusted Summer with her safety. If anything happened to Leicester and the Rose Grass kennel found out, Summer would be their first target when they invaded. Leicester is the leader's mate and offered to take on this mission. She had to convince Moto that she should go, and the brute is usually set in his ways. Summer had given portions of her food to Leicester and was especially malnourished.
Leicester told Summer that once the kennel invaded they would ransack the camp, taking any food and herbs. They would scatter the kennel, chase off the dogs, and kill any of the pups. The trainees would be captured and taken prisoner by the kennel. When they became age, they would be servants to the entire kennel. Leicester warned that not many servants lived long. Whatever was left of the kennel would be Summer's. It was up to her to gather any remaining members to start her own kennel with. And if it came down to it, she would need to assist in killing Garland and Kalta. In return for helping the kennel, she ensured the safety of herself and Granite.
Garland talked to Chi when the hunting parties returned with their measly catches. He ordered that any and all edible herbs be rationed out to the kennel along with the food this moon. Chi was very upset about this decision as Garland didn't understand the importance of the herbs for healing. Garland replied with "You can't heal dead dogs." So Chi went through his supplies and Aurora sadly handed out the herbs.

The Asepholic Containment Facility, otherwise known as the “end of the line” for any animals who were unfortunate enough to get sent there. Most animals were experimented on: twisted, warped until they were barely clinging on to sanity. The public won’t do anything - as far as they’re aware, the ACF was shut down years ago due to embezzlement. But that’s not true - these animals can testify for that.
Recently the facility has turned its attention to man’s best friend in order to fulfill their research. Dogs are being snatched off the streets, taken from shelters across America in order to be subjected to this torment. As for the other animals? The Clinic will take care of that problem.
Most of the canine experiments have failed - one of those being a peculiar beagle by the name of Chewy.
And that, my friends, is where our story begins.
