Many went crazy to find their love ones or even tried from this new world. But some started to fight agents it.

On the outsides of France, was a small group called Pluie Brûlante. They walked around France for so long, with other groups by there sides all the time. Soon marcheurs came along and took down what was left of them. But, only one got out. This group was in a small town, large walls to block out the dead. Many streets had shops with many things for this community. Self made houses, farms and even more, came along with this group. Hills with open grass land, anyone can spot you out if you walk onto it.

"Don't make any sudden moves," said George softly, nudging the woman forward. She hadn't even introduced herself and he had already decided to take her back to the base. Any pair of hands would be welcome, and if she turned out to be hostile... Well he had the means and will to stop her.

"What are you going to do with me?" she asked in a shaking voice, evidently expecting to meet a horrible fate.

"Bring you to meet the others," he grunted. "What's your name? Keep moving slowly."

"Grace. Grace B-Brown."

George nodded, even though he knew she couldn't see him from her position. "George," he said shortly. He didn't feel the need to say his last name; there would be time for that later.

"How did you find us?" George asked once he had safely brought Grace back to base. They were sitting in one of the shops--a Starbucks--that had populated the resort. In the light, he could see that her red hair, which had been partially shaved on one side of her head, was dyed with streaks of blue. Or maybe it was purple.

"W-well," she stammered, eyes darting around, "I'd heard that there was a sa-afe place in the mountains s-so I came here. I d-didn't know where exactly you were s-so..."

"Enough," George said sharply. He couldn't stand her stuttering anymore. "You'll be on scavenger duty with Jessica. Come with me." He stood up and walked towards the door, not bothering to glance behind and see if Grace was following. He heard the soft patter of her feet and smiled to himself. She seemed to have promise; hopefully, living here wouldn't break her.

Grace knocked softly on the door, feeling scared. George had abandoned her here, claiming that he had something more important to do. She hadn't expected this kind of a reception. She'd have thought that they'd be happy to have a botanist in their ranks--well, a botany student--but the reception had been cold at best, hostile at worst.

The door opened and Grace stepped back involuntarily. In front of her stood a pale woman about her age, with short dark brown hair and blue eyes. Behind her she could see a dark-skinned and dark-haired man, also about her age, sitting on a chair and nursing a cup of something that looked warm.

"Hi!" said the other woman. "I'm Jessie! What's your name? And did George or Helen catch you wandering around?"

"I-" Grace couldn't speak for a moment. This was definitely a better picture than the one she had painted in her own head. "I'm Grace Brown," she finally said. "George said I'd be working with you?"

Jessie's face seemed to soften for a moment before perking up again. "Well c'mon in," she said, stepping back to let Grace step into the room. There was a small kitchen, a bed, a fireplace, and a bathroom. It seemed well-stocked with some basic necessities. If Grace was given such a room, it didn't seem too bad a fate.

"So," Jessie said after locking the door, "you're part of us now."

"Is there a name you call yourselves?"

"Nah," said the man lazily. "I'm Emmanuel, Manny for short, and George says he doesn't like the idea of giving this group a...what did he call it?" he asked Jessie.

"Something something an implied cuss something," Jessie replied absently as she handed Grace a cup of warm tea and shooed her over to a chair.

Grace snorted with amusement. Despite the rough greeting, the others seemed to respect George. So maybe he was just being cautious. Which she could excuse, considering how easy it was for her to imagine bandits and zombies coming through this resort. "What's life like here?"

Jessie shrugged. "Hard. Easy. Depends on the day. I nearly got pinned by zombies once. George started following me around after that with that big rifle of his." She smiled at Grace's horrified expression. "It kept the zombies away so I can't complain. Made it easier to search houses, too. And we're going pretty far because we're in the middle of nowhere, if you couldn't tell."

"Everyone also pitches in to help build," Manny added. "George really likes me, probably because I've picked it up pretty quickly. I was an engineering student, so I know how to build something and make it sturdy."

Grace nodded. Again, that didn't sound too bad. She had no clue how to use a hammer but it probably wasn't too hard. If anything, she could hand the builders materials so that they wouldn't have to get it themselves. "Who's Helen?"

"The doctor," explained Jessie. "She's really nice. George's wife. They've got a couple of kids and a family that's heading up here. From what I've heard, they formed a caravan that's going really slowly because there's a bunch of little kids in it."

"Four boys," said Manny drily, "and one girl. Also some grandparents. That caravan's gonna take forever to get here, to be honest. If I could send a message, I'd recommend the older girl--that's George's and Helen's daughter, don't know what her name is--to just take her brother and come here. That would be faster, probably."

Grace nodded again. She asked a few more questions and received a few more answers. When it got darker in the sky, Jessie showed her to an empty room and Grace collapsed into her new bed. It had been an eventful day and tomorrow would be even moreso. Hopefully, she'd be able to take it.

George and Helen lay in their bed together, tired after a long day of gathering building supplies to continue repairing the resort. "I worry about Elizabeth," said Helen softly.

"She'll be fine," George said reassuringly. "She can take care of herself. And Rafi, too."

"Prosto..." Just...

"Ya znayu." I know.

Helen propped herself up on her left elbow. "I'll go looking for her soon. If she doesn't show up."

George felt ice trickling down his spine. He couldn't lose his wife. No. He couldn't. "You can't--" he started to say before Helen shushed him.

"I'll give it a year," she said. "They could just be lost. We've moved a bit off of our original destination, haven't we. And the little ones could be giving them trouble." She smiled. "For now, let's just rest."

Rest. George could do that. For now.

monica picked up the wooden plank, brandishing it like baseball bat when the bushes started rustling.
"don't try it," she hissed. "don't even think about it, or I swear you're gonna die twice."

out of the bushes hopped the sweetest little thing monica had ever seen.
"awwwwwwww!"

she tossed the plank aside and dove down to give the bunny a quick scratch behind the ear.
"where's your owner, little love?"

judging by the way the little rabbit was acting around her, and their appearance, they weren't wild, rather previously domesticated.

the bunny said nothing because bunnies couldn't talk.
"i'm gonna call you... tibby! do you like that? wanna come with me?"
tibby said nothing but hopped along behind monica as she headed back to the subway.

when she arrived there, somebody was sitting on the front step. the man there cleared his throat.
"you're the leader of this joint?"
monica smiled, but it didn't quite reach her eyes.

the man's eyes flitted to the floor.
"and who's that?"
"uhhh... that's tibby."

the man started giggling.
