a devastating disease has swept the earth, a plague.
it has killed off every human. everything has turned
wild, even domesticated pets. this is the story, some
    thing of the wild west.

this story takes place in the 1800's in the entire
state of oklahoma. there are no humans,
just animals. the story follows the path of
one large pack of dogs, the dawn pack.
there are dogs of all kinds, from all kinds
of backgrounds, looking to survive. there are a
few small towns left behind, but they mostly
will survive off wild animals as well
as livestock that have been released.

will you survive the wild west?

ρєℓє breed ↠ staffordshire terrier feeling ↠ tired with ↠ -- where ↠ prairie

the female felt like she had been trotting for years. her glistening pelt rippled in the rising sun over her tight muscles at her every graceful step, her eyes scanning the horizon slowly. it was part of the scavengers job to leave the pack every few days in search of food and water and report back to the pack on their findings. pele couldn't return empty handed, that was for sure, or the boerboel would live up to his name and have her hide. suddenly pele stopped dead in her tracks, her hind paws slightly tucked under her giving her back a rounded shape, her large head held low as her light colored nose twitching slowly. there in front of the female about a half mile off was a small herd of deer, maybe 4 or 5. pele easily could take one down, but she was exhausted and would need some help singling out a meal. turning on her heels, the fae grunted as she pushed off the ground, her paws leaving deep marks in the ground as she galloped back towards where she had come from, back towards the pack. the female was only a few miles ahead of them, and hoped she would atleast run into another scavenger or perhaps a guard to get some dogs together for a hunt. pele panted hard as she ran, her mouth wide open and tongue hanging lazily as she slowed down to a rocking lope, sniffing the air. i...need...a...break pele grunted to herself, her head lowering as she loped on, listening keenly and sniffing for any signs of any of her pack mates being close.

туяαит breed ↠ boerboel feeling ↠ confident with ↠ -- where ↠ prairie

tyrant lounged lazily under a turned over wagon, enjoying any little bit of shade he could find. the large male found it hard to travel in such heat, constantly feeling the burn of the sun on his black hide and the ache in his joints. the male yawned, rolling onto his side with a slightly huff, dust and grass bending to his breath, his eyes dully studying the blades. the pack had come upon what looked like a few families moving, their wagons turned over and a few belongings scattered around; empty boxes, childrens toys, rusty tins and cans. the male decided to lay low here with his pack for awhile, or atleast one of the scavengers came back with news of water or food, though tyrant would much prefer the latter. the boerbol stood slowly, his large limbs gathering underneath him to pick his large frame up as he pushed passed the wagon tarp. it was quite early, and still a bit cool, so the male wasn't too achy, but he knew as the day went on it would just get hotter. the boerbol walked slowly through the wreck of wagons, his tail held confidently high, light thuds heard from his large steps. tyrant made his way over to a small pile of childrens toys he had sultan collect, and gently picked one out, squeaking it obnoxiously loud and proudly sauntering his way back through the wagon wreck. wakey wakey! the boerbol loudly mumbled, stirring up a ruckus as normal to wake up his pack members.

ѕυℓтαи breed ↠ rottweiler feeling ↠ alert with ↠ -- where ↠ prairie

sultan sat quietly a few yards out from the wagon wreck, his gentle eyes curiously watching the sky, enjoying the view and the slow change of colors as it rose. he wasn't much of a morning male, but it was his sworn duty to protect the pack and he was often up early and wake late. the rottie sighed quietly, shaking out his coat before lowering his body into the grass, ears and eyes keenly listening and watching his surroundings, as if at any moment something could strike. the male pondered if he should had taken some more time to sleep, but cleared the thought from his mind, resting his large head on his paws. he was quite worried to say the least. it was the second day the pack hadn't eaten anything, and although they had all gotten quite used to not eating everyday, sultan always wondered if would ever find food. water was another issue, not as pressing though. they had left a watering hole some twenty miles back, leaving to stumble upon the wagon wreck and taking a day to relax and regain strength. the rottie was sure they would leave by nightfall and continue their look for food. rabbits and mice weren't enough to keep all these dogs well fed, that was for sure. sultan kept still in the grass, licking his lips slowly before stretching and standing up, beginning to wander a bit farther from the pack. it was the guards job to keep a watchful eye out for other predators, as well as scavengers returning to report, and sultan never missed out on a chance to prove his loyalty to the younger alpha.

The large german shepherd had woken early that day to take the first guard shift. He had been padding along the prairie for a while it seemed now. His black coat was absorbing the sun and he felt the heat as he shook his coat for the third time this morning. The rocks lodged in his paw pads as he walked. The pain from the rocks caused the black brute to stop and he sat down in the dirt. Lifting up the aching paw, Achilles licked at it with a soft whine. Away from the pack, Achilles could attend to his aching paws. He licked roughly at the pad, feeling the relief as the rock dislodged from the soft flesh on his paw pads. The big brute had only one complaint by being in a pack and that was the fact that the only time he could really clean his paws out was on patrol. The rocky prairie ground often lodged the little stones in between his paws and it drove the black shepherd nuts. When they stopped for the night, he'd clean them but it was never thorough. The shepherd was satisfied with his cleaning, and stood up. He started padding forward on the rocky ground, his head swinging side to side as he looked around. Achilles had almost completed an entire patrol around the area when the sound of loud pawsteps hit his ears. He lifted his muzzle to the air and breathed in deep. A scent of a dog was headed his way, fast and the brute stood his ground, tail up and ears forward. He felt his muscles tense as he locked his stance. He opened his jaw in a low growl before speaking. "Who's there" The words linger in the air as he growled again, his eyes set in a hard stare as he waited to see what would approach him. The scent was faint and he couldn't quite tell who was coming towards and that set him on edge.

Willow yawned, hearing the squeak of Tyrant's toy and brought her head up. She had been relaxing underneath a small wagon in this wagon wreck. She looked out over the pack and kept a curious gaze on Sultan. The guard was laying not far from the edge of the wreck. The collie mix turned her head away from Sultan as he stood up and walked off. Willow sighed, bringing her head down to lick at her paws. The fae brought her head back up and yawned again before she sat up. Willow looked around before she heard her stomach rumble. The very little food the pack had eaten in the past two days was catching up to the small female. Willow sighed, hoping that the scavengers find food, or even water. Her mouth was dry as she licked her lips. The female stood up and shook her coat, feeling the dust fly off her long fur. The heat penetrated her fur as she entered the sun, stepping out of the shade of the wagon she'd slept by last night. The female tilted her head as she sat down near the center of their little camp they'd settled on yesterday. Most of the pack was still asleep, except for Tyrant, Pele, and Sultan. Willow then swung her head to look over the rest of the camp and noticed that another guard was gone, Achilles the black german shepherd was gone too. He must've left early this morning to do a full sweep of the area. Willow tilted her head a little as she looked around at the dogs around her and sighed. The female usually couldn't sleep and often was jealous of those who could sleep. Last night, Willow managed to sleep most of the night, which the tri-colored female was very proud of.

Shooting through the grass, Ringo clamped his jaw shut on the sweet tasting rabbit between his teeth. It was an irreplaceable feeling, the victory of the catch energizing each of his gallops. The dog was feeling rather proud of himself. His sleep schedule didn't exactly line up with the others, he was out and about for most of the night. Technically, it wasn't his job to search for food, but he really didn't have anything better to do. His muscles began to ache as a large, stiff dog appeared in his vision. He skitted to a stop, a cloud of dust clinging to his coat. Emerging from the mass of the airborne dirt, Ringo padded closer to Achilles. He dropped his prey, it landing softly onto the dry grass beneath him. He let his blistering tongue roll out of his mouth, his heart beating fast. "Hey Cheif," he joked, tilting his head, "Did you miss me?"

friday ༄ 3yo ༄ mixed breed ༄ heterosexual ༄ subordinate ༄ loc: prairie ༄ tagged: open

Friday gently opened her eyes at the sound of the obnoxious squeaking. She flicked her ear and slowly got to her paws. She hadn't slept very well, her body still annoyed at the pulsating heat. She licked her nose free of dirt and let her long sweeping tail perk up. She had slept in a small nest she had constructed made of grass, providing a suitable shelter for the night. Making her way to the clearing, she quickly took note of everyone and what they were currently doing. Her throat was just as dry as the grass around them. She strained her neck to see if there was any supply of water. Friday deciding it wasn't her place to say something about the water supply to the glistening alpha. She instead retreated under a withered tree for shade, flicking her tail over her paws. She lay a watchful pair of eyes over the camp, trying to figure out her next move. She wasn't a dog of waiting, but for now, it seemed everything was taken care of.

the atmosphere was peaceful, not a threat in sight. seb sprinted through the field, propelling himself forward on powerful legs. his ears bouncing along with his movement, the male began to bark with joy. a butterfly rolled past him in the wind, floating ever so gracefully- to be honest, he couldn't stop himself from chasing it! usually sebastian was slowed by his heavy frame and quite frankly, these days it was rare for him to be incredibly excited. the newfoundland sprung up from his hind legs, snapping playfully beside the butterfly, he didn't plan on catching it.. but this sure was fun! upon landing he realized that the creature had turned into dust, falling into the grass and disappearing in an instant. woah! he stumbled backwards on unsteady paws, tucking his tail securely under his stomach. a high pitched squeak met his ears and following that sound, the ground beneath his paws began to rumble. sebastian's frame lowered, unable to stop himself from releasing a deafening yelp. once his vision came into focus he was able to see a faint outline of some familiar dogs in the distance. he barked out to them as loud as he possibly could, but they didn't budge. the field split in multiple pieces of land, the breaks spreading rapidly to set him apart from safety. his pack-mates still wouldn't come out to help him- they just wouldn't move! the canine's eyes were slammed shut, desperately hoping that he wouldn't be consumed by the earth.

gentle whimpers sounded from sebastian's den before the canine jolted up to all four paws. he'd never felt so helpless and afraid in his life! in a state of shock, he slowed and shook his head. it was so difficult to process what had happened, but he decided he'd try to brush it off. after a few silent moments in thought he crawled out of his shelter. it wasn't anything fancy or permanent, only a hole in the dirt just big enough for him to turn around in. small spaces helped him to feel a little more secure, especially among the pack. he was still slowly learning how to trust this group of dogs, after all- it had only been two days since he was accepted as a subordinate. sebastian was respectful and carried a more laid back attitude around each and every dog he'd met so far. the male let out a heavy breath as he pushed his front legs forward to stretch his body. to it was nearly impossible to feel fully relaxed after such a horrible dream! the newfoundland still couldn't seem to shake the uneasy feeling he gained.

brown eyes searched over the pack members, observing his surroundings in hope of further calming himself. within a few seconds his eyes landed on the wreck of wagons that the alpha frequently rested under. he caught sight of a dead rat by the wheel of a wagon, not fresh by any means. it was most likely something that tyrant had forgotten about over some time. casually sauntering towards it, he passed the boerboel and a few other pack members on his way over. the brute lowered his head, picking up the food carefully in his jaws. sebastian proceeded to turn on his paws and return to his den. he dropped it between his enormous feet, laying close by the mouse and waiting until he could work up more of an appetite. the pack was slow this morning from what he could take in so far. the newfoundland caught the glance of a few of the dogs around him, but no one seemed like they were awake enough for conversation. talking about something would surely take his mind away from more unpleasant things though.

-----She watched him with a settled frown across her maw. Hazel eyes piercing his pelt as he managed to get his legs under his bulky body. Without ever moving Kat's eyes followed him; a growl rumbling in her throat as she realized what he had picked up before the first squeak was ever released. And then the obnoxiousness happened. Squeak, squeak, squeak, it filled her ears, rattling her brain. The growl itching to be released. Still, silently she laid flat on her stomach back legs tucked tight against her lean body. Shoulders hunched up ready to propel her resting body forward as her delicate cranium rested peacefully on her front paws. From here, the view was great.

-----Somehow Kat had managed to wiggle herself between a mass of tumbled crates some were busted and open others only cracked. It was stuffy in-between the wood crates, too tight for any dog claustrophobic dog. Within this pile her eyesight was limited. But having woken up before the first sight of light was in the sky, Kat had taken a mental note of who had moved where. Achilles however, had woken before she had and taken the early guard shift. Meaning there was no need for her to move, squeaky toy or not Kat remained still as the alpha lumbered himself around the wreckage.

-----Who was that? Curiosity struck, head raised she watched the black mass find his way through the tumbled wagons. It was possibly their newest member, Sea-Bass. He must not have slept in camp, because nowhere in her mind had she taken a mental note of where he had been. The fawn female frowned as she watched him grab something between his jowls. Wiggling out from under her boxes Kat sat for a moment, watching him as he returned back to where he had come from. Sea-Bass, she thought. Growling, annoyed at herself. What in the world was his name? She had hadn't had any contact with the brute and had only heard his name through faint gossip she was not involved in. Eavesdropping was a handy skill. But, she was almost certain no dog would be named after such a fish.

-----Pondering through her countless mental files Kat sighed heavily, no use. In her mind, the black newfoundland was labeled as Sea-Bass. How humiliating she thought. Guess I'll just have to go properly introduce myself so I do not call this male by the wrong name. With the squeaky toy annoyance behind her, the Belgian Malinois stood gracefully walking towards the black brute. Her tail swinging rhythmically with her steps as she approached him before sitting a few lengths away. It was proper to not invade the space of those you do not know she thought as eased back onto her haunches."Good morning."She spoke softly as her nose told her what her eyes had seen him grab. Old rat, she giggled on the inside but kept her silent outer shell. The pause was long enough and any longer without proper wording would be considered awkward so she spoke again."I do not believe we met the first day you came in. I'm Kat."

tyrant continued to saunter through the wreckage, the large male's ears swiveling slowly to the stirring of his pack members. The boerboel stopped suddenly in his tracks, dusting flying up around his muscular legs, the toy in the large dog's mouth dropped. tyrant's nose twitched, as he snapped his head back around. it was the new dog, sebastian he remembered, and the wreak of something dead swept along the breeze that tickled his nose, his eyes landing on the rat in the newfoundland's. was that his? the one by his wagon? the male snorted aggressively, turning on his hind legs in the blink of an eye, trotting towards where seb slept, his head and tail held high. how dare this inferior mutt take his food, the male thought to himself, as he weaved through the wagons, snorting. tyrant slowed down, his dark eyes looking down upon a small mal in front of him, the male's nose starting to twitch as he smelled the female's scent, though he instantly snapped back to his senses. move, kat the male's low voice grumbled, as he lifted his lip, showing his large array of canines, his tongue flicking out of his mouth. muscles rippled under tyrant's black hide as he made himself bigger, although quite unnecessary, harshly pushing past kat simply because he was too impatient to wait for her to move. get up! tyrant snapped at sebastian, one of his large paws slamming the ground, dust and grass flying beneath him. how dare you disrespect me like this! the boerbol hissed, a low growl emanating from his throat, his eyes dropping from seb's face to the rat between the male's paws.

sultan continued to walk for a bit, his body rippling with every step. despite his age, the rottie felt achy not because he was getting older by the day, but because he hadn't had a good run in sometime. he was anxious to take off, lose some energy, but the responsibility of having to watch the pack held him back to say the least. suddenly, the male halted, his soft eyes following the elegant figure of a smaller dog, causing the male to squint his eyes. sultan decided to approach, more out of curiosity than anything. upon coming to a closer distance, sultan could smell it was a female, and as he got even closer, could tell it was friday. the male never held to long of conversations with the other pack members outside of tyrant and took this opportunity to act friendly. friday the male said quietly, approaching with relaxed body language, his small nub of a tail wiggling slowly behind him, his large head lowered to appear as friendly as he could.
