Ivy licked a stripe down her back, cleaning the light fur from scraps of leaf. She squinted her eyes against the harsh sun beating down on her and her human, who was stabbing a patch of dirt with some metal tool. Ivy, who was laying under the shade of a large tree in the fenced in yard, watched this in confusion. But she soon shook it off. Humans couldn’t be explained sometimes. Her human grabbed a long green snake. The water-snake as Ivy called it. The human squeezed her hand around the object and water spilled from it. However, this time was different. Instead of the comforting trickle of the liquid, there was a sort of light whispering coming from it. Ivy’s ears strained to hear it. She leaned forward and caught a snippet of it. “....beach...through forest...leader of...children…” it called. Confusion washed over Ivy’s brain. What was that supposed to mean? The confusion was short-lived, however. The human released her hand from the snake and the water flow ceased. She turned to face Ivy and beckoned to her with a smile. Ivy rose to her paws and excitedly bounded inside, quickly forgetting the whispers.

Ivy’s head rose slowly. Her eyes adapted to the dark shadows that enveloped the room. She slowly rose from her bed and looked at the spot where her human was sleeping. Her eyes flicked to the partially opened door, and headed for it immediately. Her nose nudged it even more open and exited it. Before she knew it, she was padding down the road that divided two rows of houses. She had no idea where she was going, but she did at the same time. Some sort of instinct within her was guiding her. The dog lost track of how long she was moving. When she became aware, there were no residences in sight. She stood on a dirt and pebble road that obviously hadn’t been traveled in a long while, due to the absence of any sort of tracks. The fae swallowed, tail tucking between her legs and fear slowly creeping into her veins. But her fear changed to curiosity as she heard the whispers again. Ivy slowly walked forward, poking her head through bushes and being greeted with a gust of warm, salty wind. It flowed around her, pulling her closer. At that moment, she knew that she was where she was supposed to be.
