It's about fair / slightly unfair to them because of the chicken they added.
2 2011 rares = 2010 rare
2019 store pet = late 2010 rare

it was unfair to them; if you still use the "rare's list", their 2012 store pet was worth 3-4 '09 rares, your lion is only worth 1 '09 rare/3 month rule.

I am very shaky on how age affects rarity. Is this fair to me, since the uncommons are so old?

It's unfair to you -- their pets are too recent to be worth your uncommons. ^^
