freedom from it all, well most of it. the constant rules and boundaries that
house dogs have to deal with aren't things this group has to worry about. th
eir one purpose is simple, keep outsiders out of the junkyard for the human
that owns it, he may throw some scraps your way but in the end, you're all
just strays. you wear no collar, they aren't allowed. if you have the luxury
of being welcomed into the junkyard, you disown it and are never to wear
one. searching the streets like any other feral dogs, you learn to abide by
the rules that keep you under the protection of the junkyard, break them,
well, the junkyard might just break you.

eight foot fences surround the entire property,
along with some rusting barb wire on the top. i
t is located on private property, meaning that a
nimal control has no authority to trespass. the
fencing is not well maintained, meaning there
are quite a few opening here and there for dog
and human alike. a block away from the junky
ard is a local pond, usually crowded with huma
ns and their companion animals or children. it
is the main water source for the junkyard dogs.
busy streets and alleyways are common around
the area, along with lots of suburban type of n
eighborhoods.

the morning was rather warm but not totally unbearable for him. the sky was cleared and showed little chance for any clouds or even rain for the day. he stretched from his perch on the back of a rusted old pick up truck. the vehicle had been gutted, for the most part, people coming and getting parts under the watchful eye of both dog and the owner of this place. the male jumped down from his spot and then further stretched his stiff limbs before giving himself a good shake. yawning, he headed over to the shade that was provided by a car and plopped down in the grass for a moment. he knew everyone would be awake soon and if not, he would be sure to wake them. jericho wanted to head to the pond, he was pretty thirsty after all and the stagnant water that filled the random tires was far from drinkable unless you wanted to get sick. he lifted his head and glanced up towards the fence line, watching the cars drive by and people walking on the sidewalks.

her home was located in a less populated area near the junkyard though she had yet to see the place herself. may was too busy eating her food currently. the chicken thighs and quail eggs were quite a delicacy along with the liver and hearts. when she pretty much finished her food, she got a few laps of water before hearing the front door. padding over to it, she noticed one of the three people she lived with grabbing her leash. with a wag of her tail, she sat down and waited for it to be clipped to her collar. the poodle was currently in her show cut but at the moment was more curls than poof due to not being brushed out yet. she followed the woman out the door and stuck to her side as she walked to the pond, where she sat down on a bench and unclipped may's lead. she threw the toy she had brought into the water and after it may went without hesitation.

much like the general of the pack, and several other dogs, the black female had a specific car that was known to all as her den, and any unproven members who tried to lay claim to it themselves had been in for a rude awakening when they came to this realization. she slept along the west fence of the junkyard, in an old convertible Volkswagen Beetle that still had some of its seating on the that sight; sure it was torn apart and taped up in places, but it was far more comfortable then sleeping on the hard ground outside, and the top had long since stuck in it’s closed position, the humans not able to pry it open to being a convertible anymore. as she felt the suns warm rays beginning to fall down on her, one hitting her directly in the face/eyes, which is really what woke her that morning. shaking the sleep from her eyes, she pulled herself to her paws, stretching out her body so that she felt the crack in her back as she rolled her shoulders. as she slipped out of the car door, her dark eyes landed on the general jericho, and she made her way over to the large brute, dipping her head respectfully to him as she approached. ”morning sir. anything you need me to do yet?”

being that he was still an unproven member of the pack, unlike most of the other canines he didn’t really have a specific place where he slept every night. he kind of just scrounged around and made his bed wherever he needed to when the sun went down, not wanting to disturb any of the actual junkyard members or show any disrespect, purposefully or accidentally. that previous night, he had managed to find a pretty large cardboard box in the middle of the junkyard that no one else seemed to be using and had dragged it off to the corner of the yard, not wanting to get in anyone’s way. as he woke up that morning, it was due to his keen ears already hearing the movement of his pack mates stirring and he knew that if he was ever goin to prove himself to them, he couldn’t be caught oversleeping. so he quickly rushed up to his paws and looked around for someone he could maybe talk to until their general gave orders for the day; his eyes fell on the pretty shiba ina who had been nothing but kind to him since he had shown up to the pack and he meandered over to her, a goofy smile on his face as he greeted her. ”g’moring meridith! you sleep well I hope?” he couldn’t help the slight wag of his tail as he sat beside the pretty fae.

the large brute had been on his own for about a year now, and he liked it that way. he knew there were some groups of dogs that banded together, almost like packs of wolves, seeking safety more in numbers than in themselves. but that just wasn’t the life for boomer. perhaps one day he’d find a nice face to settle dow with but he just couldn’t see himself joining a gang and being pushed around by anyone; he was a top dog, the kind who was used to fighting hard for everything he has ever known or had, and that wasn’t about to change just because he no longer had adoring humans cheering him on in the ring. since becoming a loner, there was a specific alley that he had pretty much claimed as his own, and he had fought several other strays before who dared journey into his sanctuary. he marked both ends of the alley every morning and night to restrengthen this, since he did go out during the day in search of food. pulling himself up off of the ragged blankets he had found and made into his bed, he quickly marked both ends of his alley before trotting out into the streets. the humans always parted for him, many terrified of the massive, muscular brute who could easily snap their arm if they got in his way. his nostrils flared as he tried to catch the scent of something to fill his rumbling stomach, and he soon smelled sausage coming from a small moving cart with a large man yelling about his food to the other humans. while the man was distracted taking care of a guest, boomer grabbed the end of a sausage link and pulled hard, tearing a whole chunk of links off of the cart, and he bolted away as fast as his limp would allow, ignoring the yelling after him by the man who didn’t even try to follow. once he was far enough away, he found a metal bench and hoped up on it, laying down and knowing on his breakfast.

Down by the pond, the large male lay in the shade of a tree as the two children of his family played by the water. He kept a watchful eye over them, ready to intervene if anyone or anything came too close to them. Yawning, he rested his head on his paws as everything was peaceful for now. Plenty of owners came here with their families and dogs, everyone enjoying the weather. It was a little too warm for him with his weather so he chose to stay in the shade where it was cooler. Sometimes having a ton of fur could be difficult.

Already up, she was currently watching people as they entered the junkyard, sitting up alert. Her tail lazily wagged as she leaned forward, sniffing the air. There were a few people but they were all looking through various junk like usual. Yawning softly, she gave a shake of her head as she wondered if they would head to the pond today. The warm weather was making her thirsty and she was still running around like usual. The trip to the pond was always fun as she did enjoy a nice relaxing swim now and then.

Watching everyone that was gathered at the pond, he growled softly as he kept a safe distance from it all. Moving to a less crowded spot, he leaned down and lapped at the water. Rolan kept his senses alert as he drank, not wanting anyone to sneak up on him. Feeling better, he stood up and gave himself a quick shake. He wasn't a big fan of swimming so he stayed out of the water and merely laid down in the grass. As far as no one bothered him, he could relax and sunbathe for a bit.

xxxxThe large female laid in the trunk of a four door car, her side lifting and falling as she slept peacefully. The trunk was pried open to where she still had shelter over her head in case it rained, but the trunk would not fall down and lock her in. Even if that happened, she could wiggle through to the backseat and hop out through one of the broken doors. This was her car, and she did not let many of the other canines even near it. Sleepily lifting her head, she peered out of the trunk of the car and spotted Jericho and Lilah. Her cropped ears twitched slightly, trying to catch what they were saying. Heaving a heavy sigh, she hopped out of the trunk and stretched her muscular frame in the warm sun; it was a nice day to be out. She wondered what the leader had in store for the pack today.
xxxxMoving away from her car, she made sure she was in earshot of Jericho in case he wanted to speak to the pack. She found a nice place to sit and enjoy the cool breeze against her short pelt. Valkyrie closed her eyes and sighed through her parted maw; it was so peaceful, and she truly felt as ease right now. This kind of life was good for her. She would not go back to being a house dog.

xxxxMusic was flowing through his household this morning. Rhythm watched as his human danced as she cooked up a breakfast for herself. He had already been fed, but he would try to beg for some bacon. His front paws bounced as he listened to the music and simply due to his excitement for the day. His owner laughed at him as she saw him dancing around on the tiled floor of the kitchen. His nails clicked against the tile whenever his paw would hit the ground. Once breakfast for his owner was prepared, he followed her out to the living room where she sat on the couch. Quickly, he hopped up beside her and laid down with his head between his paws. He gazed up at her with pleading eyes as she ate her breakfast. "I can't say no to you, my little gentleman." His owner cooed, giving him a slice of bacon which he eagerly ate. His tail swished against the couch, and he closed his eyes as he waited for his human to finish eating.
xxxxAfter a couple minutes, the duo were at the door and ready to head out. His leash was clipped to his collar, and they made their way from the apartment complex to the nearby pond where most canines seemed to gather with their owners. Upon arriving, he wiggled in excitement as his owner unclipped the leash from his collar. At her command, he weaved through her legs a few times before being sent off to do whatever he pleased. The first canine he noticed was a standard poodle by the name of May. They would meet briefly whenever they attended the same shows, and it was a pleasant surprise when he found out that they lived in the same area.
xxxx"Hey May!" He barked, watching her go after a toy that had been thrown into the water for her. Even outside of the show, she still seemed to enjoy jumping into the water after toys. He could not blame her. He enjoyed weaving around his owner's feet and dancing to music whenever a familiar tune caught his ears. Briefly, he glanced around to notice other pets and even some strays.

xxxxxxafter awaking from sleep, sabrina rose from the spot she had been sleeping on- a grassy patch among the dirt ground of the junkyard. looking around, her eyes took in the scene. around her were dogs, some still sleeping and others up; the sight of so many others was an alien feeling. sab had almost never had the company of more than one dog and was usually solitary in her experiences. having only joined the junkyard a mere two days ago meant that she needed to assimilate and prove her worth, a task she had no idea how to go about. she had never really tried to fit into groups or places, so needing to prove herself was new. she always had striven to please others as a way to keep peace or make sure she got a place to sleep or something to eat, but demonstrating what value she had to a society was a foreign idea.

xxxxxto her left, sab could identify a collected, yet somewhat intimidating, gray-coated female. she had looked to be basking in the slight spring breeze, which proved to be an objectively charming setting given the junkyard. although sab hated to impose on her space and enjoyment, she had told herself before she fell asleep that she would finally put herself out there and talk to the first dog she saw. "hello? i'm sab, i'm super sorry if i'm interrupting anything, i'll leave if you want me to. what's your name?" she asked in as warm a tone as possible while approaching the strongly-built female.

it didn't take long before he was approached in his shaded area. the first to greet him was lilah, one of the lieutenants in the junkyard. brown eyes glanced her way as she greeted him, questioning if he had any tasks for her. he pushed himself up to a sitting position and scanned the area for who was within his sight for him to figure out what he needed. "take valkyrie and sab with you and see if you can find any food, make sure to get some water from the pond first, its gonna be a pretty warm day. watch out for the catchers, they seem to be around a lot more now that the weather is nice" the male explained to her with a short nod to indicate that he was finished speaking for the time being unless she had any questions or other concerns for him.

she leaped off the grassy area and heard someone bark her name, a rather familiar voice. with a splash, she was in the pond and swimming for the orange toy. grabbing it, she swam back and pulled herself out of the water and shaking herself. she scanned the area in search of the voice she had heard before she was had ended up in the pond. finally, her gaze focused on the small shetland sheepdog she had seen a few times leaving a few shows. she padded over to her owner and returned the toy before bounding over to the smaller dog. "hey rhythm." the poodle said with a wag of her tail. she didn't see anything else of interest around them yet so she sat down on her haunches and waited for a response from the other dog, knowing that he was bound to strike up some sort of conversation since he wasn't at his owner's side.
