Welcome to BeckClan. Fierce, loyal cats born and raised in the beautiful Nordfjord mountains of Norway. While this territory is breathtaking, it holds many threats. From predators like bears, foxes, and wolverines to avalanches in leaf-bare and landslides in newleaf, these cats have been built tough to withstand whatever is thrown at them. discussion thread

➳ Starkstar is growing weary from age. Each moon that passes, he gets more and more tired.
He is on his last life now, and soon, StarClan will be welcoming a new member to it's fold.
Before this happens, I plan to do a few ceremonies so that whoever becomes leader after
Starkstar passes will know what to do.

viii. LGBTQ+ cats are accepted ! this clan is a safe place.
ix. please notify me if you are going to be absent. If you are absent for two weeks without informing me, your cats will either be killed or be put up for adoption.
x. be polite and respectful to others and their ideas.
xi. please limit your amount of applications to three fighter/hunters and two apprentices/kits. you may only have one high positioned cat at a time.
xii. fade to black when necessary.
xiii. please use the discussion thread for any ooc talk.
xiv. when a queen gives birth, please don't use detail. litters are limited to five. use the discussion thread to see who would adopt these kits. the people who plan to rp these kits must make a mini profile with a pic, names they wish to use in the future, and a few personality traits.
xv. this is an advanced rp. minimum of two paragraphs per character
xvi. I must see and approve of any major plots or plots that will involve the entire clan. (ex. avalanches, fox attacking a patrol, rouge attacking camp, any cats leaving the clan)

---------------➳ Camp
-------BeckClan is a cave located on the side a Nordfjord mountain a stones throw away from a mountain stream, hence the name "beck." The size of the cave is long, but narrow, and branches off to a few different tunnels. The first tunnel leads to the Fighter and Hunter's den. These two dens are said to be the most spacious yet have a low ceiling most large cats need to crouch. The tunnel adjacent leads to three other dens; the apprentice den, the medicine den, and the nursing den where mothers, kits, and elders reside. The last tunnel is long and opens up to a much larger cave where a shallow pool (that's only as deep as a paw) in the middle lies from an opening at the top for sunlight and moonlight to pour in. The very last tunnel in more narrow than all the others and opens up to the leader's den.

---------------➳ Hunting
-------BeckClan hunts mostly fish, granted they are near a stream. Other prey includes red squirrels, lemmings, voles, and field mice. Occasionally there will be a beaver but the only circumstance in which these cats actually engage a beaver is when it threatens the stream or if it is the first to attack.

---------------➳ Predators
-------There are many predators, some more common than others. Some are more threatening and harmful and others. The more threatening, common predators are foxes, badgers, and wolverines. The lesser threatening more common predators are Ermines, Polecats, Otters, Pine Martins, Least Weasels. The most threatening and least common predators are brown bears, polar bears, lynx, and wolves.

---------------➳ Moon Cave
-------The moon cave is where the medicine cats go to visit StarClan. Much like the pool in the camp, there is a cave at the top of the mountain with a pool in the center. There is a hole in the ceiling that is in the exact spot where the moon hits the highest point in the sky.

---------------➳ Two-Legs
-------Two-legs are rarely ever seen in BeckClan territory. No cat has seen a two-leg in generations. All the cats know about these creatures are tales from the ancestors. They are all terrifying stories which commonly include kidnapping, giant claws, gnarly teeth, growls more fearsome than a bear, and attacking.

---------------➳ Other Locations
-------Hunting Lake - the lake at the top of the stream. The cats come here to train apprentices how to swim on the shore. The also use it to fish, but is not used as often as the stream since it is much further from camp.
-------The Resting Mounds - flatland not far from the Hunting Lake where cats who have passed on lay in their eternal sleep. The clan cats visit these graves occasionally to mourn the loss of a loved one. When a cat is buried, they are buried face down so that their wings may sprout from their spirit and take them up to StarClan. Family members are to find pretty rocks from the stream and place them on the top of the mound to mark them.
-------Two-Legs Steep Rock - a small cliff down stream. Since the nature of Two-Legs have been embellished over generations, terrifying stories are told to kits about them prevent them from doing something problematic. The fall from the cliff won't hurt a full grown cat, but an unknowing kit can be severely harmed. Most full grown cats go here to relax, and especially queens who need a break from dealing with their kits.

---------------➳ Apprentice Ceremony
-------After a kit in born, two objects are placed in front of it. A moss ball and a pretty stone. If the kit choses the moss ball, they train to become a fighter. If a kit choses a pretty stone, they train to become a hunter. The actual ceremony takes place with everyone gathered around the pool in the center of the cave. The leader steps out into the middle of the pool and recites a few words to StarClan and calls the kit into the pool. A few more words are recited and the mentor is called into the pool. The kit and the mentor join tails to signify a bond, and the leader recites an oath in which they repeat. Thus ends the ceremony and a celebration is held in the new apprentices honor.

---------------➳ Fighter/Hunter Ceremony
-------A fighter or hunter apprentice must first pass three tests. The first test is endurance. The apprentice is taken to the top of the stream where a small lake lies. They must swim from one side to the other. The second test is independence. An apprentice must travel to the top of the mountain, hunt for themselves, and find shelter for two days. Their mentor and two fighters will watch them behind the scenes to ensure the apprentice's safety. The third test is skill. If they are a fighter, they are to spar with three other fighters for the leader to assess. If they are a hunter, are to track and hunt down: a red squirrel, a field mouse, or a vole; an ermine, polecat or weasel; and catch a fish. The leader will assess this as well.
-------Much like the apprentice ceremony, the cats will gather around the pool as the leader steps into it. The leader then calls upon the apprentice and their mentor, and once they get to the center, they join tails. The leader calls upon cats to testify proof that the apprentice is ready for their anticipated rank. The leader says a few words which sever the bond between apprentice and mentor. The leader gives the apprentice a new suffix and the ceremony comes to an end. The new Hunter/Fighter is to stay awake all night in complete silence at the entrance of the cave.

---------------➳ Medicine Cat Ceremonies
-------From Kit to Apprentice - A medicine cat apprentice is not chosen by a medicine cat, a leader, or anybody else. Instead, they are chosen by StarClan. A StarClan cat is to visit the medicine cat in their dreams with the name of a kit who is fit to take on the medicine cat role. The medicine cat apprentice not only learns how to heal, but they are also taught by a fighter and a hunter.
-------From Apprentice to Medicine Cat - For an apprentice to become medicine cat, they must go to the Moon Cave and spend five nights with StarClan. They are to hunt their own food. Fighters stand guard at the entrance of the cave and are not allowed to speak to the apprentice. At the end of their solitude, the mentor will visit them in the Moon Cave to visit StarClan. The Star cats will tell the medicine cat if their apprentice is ready or not. Then the cats return to camp and go through the same ceremony the other apprentices get.

---------------➳ Lead Hunters & Fighters
-------Lead Hunters and Lead Fighters are cats who are exceptional at what they do. Their job is to lead patrols and hunting parties almost every day. The deputy is the one to chose who shall be lead hunter or fighter. This position is interchangeable. If one hunter proves to be better than the lead hunter, the lead hunter will be replaced. Same with lead fighter. These cats are also candidates for becoming the deputy.

---------------➳ Celebrations
-------New-leaf Celebration - The new-leaf celebration spands to two days with two major events. On the first day, the cats gorge themselves with whatever's on the fresh kill pile. There will also be a sparring tournament. Two cats at a time will spar in the center pool. The first cat pushed outside of the pool looses. Only fighters can participate in this. On the second day, cats will have fasted and begin the second day of the new-leaf celebration. Hunters will gather outside of the cave and chose a moss ball from the pile. If a hunter choses a moss ball with a rock in it, they participate in the challenge. They must hunt down as much prey as they can until time is up. They have from sunrise to sunhigh. The winners of these challenges get bragging rights. This is mostly a celebration for thanking StarClan that they have made it through winter.

◆ Starkstar sat quietly in his den alone, staring at the dark ceiling. He had been awake for a time now, but he simply didn't have the strength to get up. Eventually he would have to, since today marked the beginning of new leaf and it's anticipated celebration, but for now he was content in his cave alone. Added stress somehow made him ache more.
◆ Even though he had yet to announce the celebration, he could feel the excitement. All the snow melted a week ago. He thanked Starclan for bringing new leaf. His achy bones wouldn't be able to take much more of the leaf bare season. If it weren't for Crestwing, he probably would have frozen to his moss bed.
◆ Ever so slowly, Starkstar stood from his moss bed with a grunt. He stretched, shaking the tiredness from his paws, and padded out of his den. He sat at the entrance of his den and curled his tail around his paws as he listened for the clan wake up. Once everyone was awake, he would make the announcement. He couldn't wait to see the excitement it would bring.

◈ Snowstorm padded past the Hunting lake, where his presence disturbed a few birds lingering on the shore, and headed towards the resting mounds. He had woken up before anyone else and decided on a whim to visit his deceased brother Ashenkit's mound. It had been a number of moons since he last visited the grave.
◈ He passed a few mounds until he found the one with the same four pretty rocks his family placed on Ashenkit's mound. After settling himself next to the mound, he stared at the rocks and tried to remember Ashenkit's face and voice. It was all he had left after all. All the other clan cats had faith that their departed loved ones waited for them in StarClan, but Snowstorm never believed that. It seemed so unrealistic to him.
◈ "Hey Ash," he began. "Sorry I haven't visited for a while but I have lots of stories to tell." he continued, mustering a small smile.

♠ Greyheart yawned as she sat quietly watching the sun rise. Her father, Starkstar, had her stand watch for the night. It wasn't that she hated night watch, but she didn't exactly love it either. It's always boring. Most predators know better than to attack the cave with how many scents floated about. The only night watch incident she could recall was a moon or so after being named an apprentice.
♠ Another yawn surfaced, and this time she tried to rub the tiredness from her eyes. The clan would wake up soon, and when they do, a nice warm moss bed will be waiting for her in the fighter's den. Snowstorm was the only cat awake that she knew of. He said his good mornings and told her that he was going to visit their deceased brother's mound. She figured he was a fool for blaming himself for Ashenkit's death. If he actually had done something to try and save Ashenkit, the stream would have taken him as well.

Silverpool stretched her lean muscles walking toward the mounds of the deceased. She had several cats to visit there. One was her elder brother Cypressstream, whom had been killed by a lynx. The other would be her niece Ashenstride, who had bravely fought off a wolf, only to die of her injuries coming back. As she reached it, the usual questions surfaced in her mind. Why did you have to go Cypressstream? Her heart clenched with grief, and sudden anger as she reached the mound and pressed her muzzle to the surface. It had been over 15 moons, but Silverpool never stopped coming. The amount of loss her family had gone through was just too much to bury.

The feeling of fur pressing against her made her jump, but she realized it was just her sister Spiderspirit. The ebony molly nuzzled her older sister warmly, "I thought I'd find you here." Her yellow eyes were like pools of sunshine as she pressed her muzzle to the rock as well. Silverpool sighed and reflexively pressed against her younger sister. While Spiderspirit had not let out her grief as Silverpool had, she had taken a hard hit. It was probably worse for her, since the black she-cat had been on the very patrol that had lost Cypressstream. Both of her siblings were badly injured, and Spiderspirit's eye was still a bit hazy due to several nasty scratches. She also saw some very pretty granite rocks that Blizzardberry must have placed, which surprised her since her eldest sister was very old already and barely able to get out of her den sometimes.
