Ok, thanks Tess. I thought I would hear something like that.

Faizah- if the store isn't too far, you should check. If that doesn't work, call a friend and ask if they have a oven.

For the frosting, you must make the design yourself. It's fine if it's store bought frosting, you just have to put it on the cake yourself

Ice dusk- do you mean to put your own username on the cake? I would just put it on a separate paper like the example

Yea, that's what I did. But I will put my signature on the cake.

I was wondering...
If I enter the contest with someone (say, my sister), will we both get the build-a-cake set, or do we have to split it, like everything else?

(my parents don't want to have two cakes floating around, as we all tend to go overboard on the sweets  )
the game lol

Kat wrote:I've made my little frosting figures but can't figure out how to paint it with food coloring without the colors turning out weird. How do I do this and what if I use regular paint? The animals would no longer be edible so would that be against the rules or would it just turn my figures into mush anyways? xD

Plus, I can't find many food coloring colors that aren't super expensive. I have the basic pack but it only comes with green, red, yellow and blue.

I just want to make sure paint is 100% okay before going ahead with it. I've tried using food coloring to paint the frosting figures (It worked to some extent thanks to Anakin's helpful advise. Thanks again!) but I can't get it quite right and I'm afraid I'll not finish the cake in time while I struggle with colors. lol
I know that using paint would make the frosting figures no longer edible which is why I'm asking. I don't want to be disqualified, get a lower "grade" on it so to speak or have to make the figures over again.
Thank you! :)

I went to the shop just after posting, managed to find a ready made cake base and ready-made icing. My cake is a bit of a rush job, but it's done, and I've entered the photos now. I honestly don't think taking more time would have helped, cake is not a familiar medium for me, but I had a go, and that's what matters!

Quick question for Tess or Nick (or anyone else who's judging these cakes):
What are the cakes being judged on? Not taste obviously...but, like the quality of the design, the Chicken Smoothieness of the cake...or something like that?

Behind this mask, this pretty face, there's something I'm hiding
In my gracious words and careful steps there's always a chance of slipping
My mask sliding, cloak tilting, make-up dripping
I hope you never notice when my perfect mask falls
Because love makes us liars, and it made a fool out of me

After a very long hiatus (spanning nearly two years) I have returned! : D
