Mary still pulled out the amount she usually paid and placed it in the tip jar. "Thank you." she said quietly, "I'm sure the police will want to talk to her. I hope she wasn't..." Mary shook her head as she took her drink. "I'll see you later." she murmured, leaving to go back upstairs.

Ryan watched her pay and shook his head slightly before watching her leave “she was safe.” He said softly once she left “I know that much..” he added, talking to himself now. He couldn’t believe the woman he had been hitting on was Aleesa’s adoptive mother.

Mary went upstairs and sat in the waiting room, taking a sip of her tea. She got on the phone with Maria and told her the good news. Maria planned on coming up with the pups to visit Alessa.

Ryan sighed and looked at the counter, beginning to clean nervously, He was really upset about his daughter and everything else that was going on, maybe he could get ahold of Alessa’s birth certificate and get it to Mary, show that the pup was his and hopefully get visitation rights or something.

Some time had passed and Maria had brought the pups to sit with Mary. Maria's girls were still in the NICU and she planned on visiting them in a little while. The family was brought into Alessa's recovery room once she was out of surgery. Mary sat by Alessa's bedside, gently holding her paw and waiting for her to wake up. The little pups were sitting on the edge of her bed, with Maria on the other side. "She looks like she's been fed and kept clean..." whispered Maria. Mary nodded a little. "The doctors said she was having her blood drawn." she murmured, "Someone took care of her."

Ryan sighed and ran his paws through his hair, his coworker was coming in soo and he didn’t have any customers so he left early, walking to the gift shop and buying a balloon that said ‘get well soon’ and a small stuffed bear. He soon walked to the front desk with the items, asking where Alessa’s room was. He nodded once the nurse told him without asking any questions. He walked to the elevator and went up to her floor, stepping out of the elevator and walking to Alessa’s room.

Alessa was quite sore and out of it when she woke up. Mary pushed some of Alessa's hair out of her eyes. "How are you feeling?" she asked quietly. Alessa winced softly as she moved a little. "I... don't remember..." she whispered. Something in Alessa's mind told her that something happened for Mary to have cried like that. She didn't understand why she couldn't remember. Mary shushed her gently. "It's alright, you focus on resting, okay?" she said. Mary looked over as Ryan walked into the room. Alessa also looked to Ryan; she stared at him for several moments. Alessa didn't know why or how, but she felt like she had seen Ryan before. But from where?

Ryan gave a small smile and set the Bear with the balloon tied to it on the small stand near the door “hi.” He said softly then took a few steps back out of the door “I just wanted to see how your daughter was after my shift.” He told Mary, hesitating ever so slightly as he said ‘your daughter’ he couldn’t help but feel a bit hurt when he couldn’t call Alessa his daughter when she was his only child.

Alessa continued to stare at Ryan, trying to figure out why he seemed familiar to her. She didn't appear to be fearful or afraid of him, just confused. Mary didn't think that Alessa's behavior was strange. "Thank you." she said softly, "She'll be staying here to make sure the incision doesn't get infected." She then looked to Alessa. "Are you up for telling Ryan 'thank you'?" she asked. Alessa almost never blinked as she watched Ryan. "T-thank you..." she said quietly, her speech a little slurred from the anesthesia.

Ryan listened to Mary, glancing at Alessa every few seconds cause he could feel her gaze on him “okay.” He said softly then looked at Alessa as she spoke “it’s nothing, Chickadee.” He said and gave her a friendly smile “Mary, would you happen to have any free time in the upcoming few weeks?” He asked, returning his attention to her “i was thinking, maybe we could grab something to eat together sometime.” He said then began fidgeting with his hands.
