Prompt:"But I'm not ready to go yet!" Jakobah yelled at the Kalon in front of begging desperately for his life.
" No one ever really is at first. Look I'm sorry but it's strictly business. No one lives forever and although it's a shame you must go young it must happen. " The other Kalon responded evenly from their spot on the couch. "I have you scheduled for midnight to, whether you go peacefully or not depends on what you choose to do. There is no running away from Death."
"Isn't there a way I can stay even just a bit longer?" Jakobah asked a bit more softly this time.
" Well, there are a few loop holes but i doubt they apply to you. " They sighed. "Lets see. Are you of major importance to society such as on the brink of a big discovery?"
" No."
"Do you have any close family that might suffer abnormal trauma from your passing."
"No." Jakobah asked again hanging his head knowing there was no point in trying to lie to Death, they knew his whole life.
"Do have any unfinished business of a major importance?"
" Well, I've never taken the perfect picture. You know, like the ones that captures even the emotion in the room and when you look long enough you almost feel as if you there. " He explained perking up just a bit when talking about his hobby.
"Well I'm sorry but it must be of major importance. If not, everyone would still be here." Death responded in a stiff tone and any hope Jakobah had faded. "That really is important to you Isn't it?"
" Yes. Yes it really is. " Jakobah answered plainly although it want for taking the 'perfect' picture was a bit a stretch.
"Well, I'll tell you what. I'll make an exception, I'll let you live in till you get that perfect shot." Death sighed and Jakobah brightened up immediately .
"Really? You really mean it? Oh thank you!" He responded as Death wrote down the agreement in the little notebook he had that contained all the information about Jakobah's life and then he disappeared. Jakobah ran to his room and pulled his camera. He gave it a kiss no matter how silly it was then put it in the bottom of a storage chest he had never to taken out until he was ready. He chuckled and realized he had just fooled Death themself and now he was basically immortal.
He made his to the front door, some fresh air would be nice but as soon as he opened the door. He wished he hadn't.
"That was very clever of you mister Margrove but now someone else must take your place." Death said without showing any emotion as usual. Jakobah was confused for a moment and then he heard the little tone his phone does when he gets a message.
"Heyy. Sorry for the late warning but i was in town and decided to stop by and chat or something. Crossing the street right now!
Brought pizza btw." The message from his friend read. Jakobah looked up and heard the screeching of brakes and a loud thud.
He shoved passed Death who moved aside showing no sign of trying to stop him as Jakobah ran out and saw he friend dead on the street.
"You see. If you hadn't been so greedy with your own, maybe I wouldn't have had to take them." Death said somehow right behind Jakobah and then they once again disappeared leaving Jakobah distraught and the rest of the bystanders in panic.
Either way it would have been tragic as the death of someone always is but Jakobah never stopped wishing he had chosen the other path and died instead
