when a dog dosen't like to walk close to you. how do you get them to heel? are some harder to teach to walk nice and heel? there is no easy way to let Lucy to run around on her own. I am too slow with poor endurance to job with her. and a 120 human being pulled by a rat terrier-italian greyhound (possibly) mix sounds abusive.
I kind of feel bad. i know how fun it is to run. if i bring her closer to me she pulls more. like a fish on a hook.

The best way is to start in a low distraction environment, like your living room. As you succeed in a calm environment you can move onto more distracting environments. Here are some tutorials...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWb9_ZvsLbo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9cpD6VFhTU

You can also use targeting to teach your dog to heel. This can be done via hand targeting or a target stick, the latter might be a better choice to keep you from having to bend over as much...

Also if she is pulling on leash generally I recommend working on loose leash walking...

Remember walks aren't just to exercise her body, they're to exercise her mind as well, so don't expect her to heel all the time on every walk. She needs time to sniff things, check and leave pee-mail, etc. You can use a front clip harness and maybe even a bungee type leash to help take some of the pressure of her pulling off you, but they are not substitutes for training and used alone will not teach your dog to stop pulling.

Best girl went to a festival on Saturday and had a ton of fun! We went with our two friends Malady and Captain, and then met up with a husky named Lucian. We got a few comments that made me laugh, one lady was so amazed that O and Mal were behaving while they were in heat lol. I was very happy to get some heeling photos of my girl! Is there anything better than the focus of a dog in heel? 😍

Malady the Mal, Captain the Aussie, Lucian the Husky, and of course Octavia the BC 😂

Great tht you had lots of fun with the dogs and O did great heel :D

but may i ask something....are you sure this is a Husky....this does not look like a Husky ..ears and coat is strange, colour too....but looks more like a Keeshond (or called a German spitz or Wolfspitz) or because of no much mane more like a Eurasier (i know a female Eurasier who Looks like the dog in the pic) but maybe im wrong^^

she is more my stepdad's dog, and since we had that change of life, i am not walking her everyday at noon. and he seems ok with her pulling, or just being as far as the extendo leash goes. and her pee mail checking is like every 10 paces or she will scramble onto other's yards. he is happy where she is and i guess dosen't mind for 6 years

but since i am walking her more now, on longer walks i have to deal with everything again

i did at one time look at videos. between myself and stedad. i am the only one botherd by Lucy's, (what ever you want to call it) and it no videos really had how to do the training for a flighty dog.

Do you mean an extension leash that spools out as the dog pulls? Those encourage pulling. If you can't get him to stop using it then you might have to put loose leash walking on cue so she knows when she's not supposed to pull.

He’s a AKC wooly agouti husky. Not saying he’s a great example of the breed but yes he is indeed a husky.

Since everyone likes Malady, enjoy Mal with baby O about a year ago 😭

Gizmo, the dog I'm watching/training this weekend. Shes very scared of me right now but we're trying to gain trust by walks and treats. Shes a bit fat lol.
