The Girl of Glass
Rune hurried into the throneroom, keeping her dagger hidden under her cloak. The dagger was edged with the poison from a welak, the most venomous serpent known to man.
She tried to shake off the anxiety that seemed to envelope her, today was the day she would attempt to do something no person had ever attempted to do.
Rune was going to attempt to assassinate Lady Apalla, she was supposedly a ‘servant’ to Queen Pearl, but nearly everybody knew she was far more powerful, as her witchcraft influenced the queen. Lady Apalla was a great sorceress, she had arrived at the kingdom of Aduna about three years ago, quickly seizing power.
Before her arrival, Queen Pearl ruled the kingdom with grace and kindness.
But now Aduna was a place of power and fear.
At least that was what she was told, after all, she had not been at Aduna before her arrival.
After all, Lady Apalla was her mother.
“Lady Apalla. Where is Queen Pearl?” she asked, trying to keep her voice from shaking.
Lady Apalla gave a cold smile. “Child. You have no need to be nervous around me. Queen Pearl is out tending to the gardens, what is it you want?” Rune took a few steps closer. “Mother,” she said slowly. Apalla stood up and approached Rune. “I know why you’re here.” she said.
Rune’s blood seemed to turn to ice. “Y-you do?” Lady Apalla continued her cold smile.
“You’re here to ask my permission.” Rune was silent. “To tear down these awful, stained windows.”
Rune tilted her head. “They’re magnificent, in my opinion.”
Lady Apalla raised her eyebrows, but said nothing more. She stood in front of one that stood taller then she, examining it. Rune stood next to her, slowly drawing out her dagger.
Suddenly, quick as a viper, she drove it into her mother’s back. Lady Apalla collapsed on the stone tiles. “Your reign of fear is over.” Rune’s voice shook. Lady Apalla held up a hand, gray smoke, mixed with dark violet hovered over it. “Rune.. for this deed. You will become like this glass. Awful. And stained.” then she went still. Rune felt the change quickly, she let out a long piercing scream.
When Queen Pearl and her guards rushed into the room, all they found was Lady Apalla on the ground, and a feminine glass figure with its mouth open in a scream.
Not my finest, but eh!
