the problem with the lists removal, and why it used to work but can't work anymore, is that there was never a list before. so pets didn't have specific higher value. cause there was no set value. the reason it can't work now is because there already has been a list. so everyone knows they are high value and are going to try to offer low valued pets for the high ones. like these trades i just got. would you, ever in your right mind, take any of these?

So I was just thinking about my time before the list came to be... How easy trading was and how it didn’t matter if I thought I was giving too much or too little. How I longed for those days again. As an example, here are some mostly 2008 trades & some 2009 trades for your viewing pleasure:

As you can see, these weren’t “list fair” most of the time, but they added up to my collection being like 98% complete minus URs I am missing. They were great trades and I was happy with them all. There are tons more, but these were just the first ones I found in my pets. Anyway, as you see, trading will be fine, let loose and have fun with it. ^_^

EDIT - & yes, I am not advocating trading a sorbet for a couple rares, but people who are sending those are trolling and that has always happened. That isn’t anything new, heck I usually get a trolling trade about once a week which has gone on for the last 11 years, I just foe or block them as they come in.

I like how most of the trades you posted actually hold up pretty well in my opinion.
Stuff like a galaxy dog for a sorb looks perfectly fine to me, they were both extended releases available through July and August.
I've got similar stuff. Unfortunately I traded many of my pets from back then and don't remember people's usernames, but from the ones I do remember, I have this one for example, from October 2009:

Many of the July and August pets were easily swappable for one another with the exception of very obviously rarer outcomes (Sunjewel, Moonswirl, July PPS), with most of the decisionmaking simply hinging on how much participants liked the designs.
This lead to some pets being more easy to trade off than others (aka demand), but you could still look for and find people who wanted what you had.
If one person didn't want your Balloon dog for their Toxic, you could keep looking, and eventually you'd run into someone who liked the Balloon better. Or you could ask the person if they'd consider the trade if you added something more to your side.
I find that much easier and stress-free than to tell people that they have to add to the balloon dog because more people seem to like the toxic. Leaving the option to "compensate" someone for demand differences to bribe them into trading a popular but equally rare pet, but not making it such a rigid expectation that it's considered unfair not to.

I don’t know if I like the list being gone, I haven’t been playing for very long but I like sticking to the values of the list, without it I feel like there might be total trading anarchy, sure it opens up more opportunities for players who didn’t previously have any vr list pets or omgsr’s but what about the plays who do have those things, without the list what’s the general norm for an omgsr like how many rares or very rares would it be worth? As 2 commons equal a uncommon what would be said about an omgsr?
Honestly I’m indifferent about the list being gone, I’m kinda glad because now I can probably get the pets I really like easier but also what about the hard work and what is now over trading to get to where I am today? Idk man

I currently have a handful of list pets up for trade and even one benign auctioned. I have trades coming in everyday for my lists but I don’t know how to judge them.
I wanna trade but I’m also worried and nervous to trade without being called a scammer. :’)
I don’t know why but since the list has retired, I’ve just been a ball of anxiety. I know I should feel free that i it might be easier to trade now but I don’t know why I’m still feeling this way. Ahhhh. Woe is me.

Honestly I feel you, I kinda want a new guide to values not something solid kinda how the list was with wiggle room but I just want something as an idea like this many rares equals a very rare and this many very rares is this pet for whatever, I just I need something so I can pass judgement on and to help me trade, sure I know values and have my own version of fair but that feels outdated with the new big change

sure they are wildly different, but comparing keeping the list and editing it vs keeping the list and redoing it, is a far closer comparison than keeping it and throwing it out. those two comparisons are worlds a part. have you seen the offers ive been getting? do you want those offers? cause all it does it make me not want to trade. all this "it makes me feel less stressed" is nonsense. it makes me more stressed and angry and almost want to rage quit to play a different game

I disagree that it is a closer comparison. Redoing the list to the point that it would need to be redone would just essentially be creating a new list reflecting rarity, something which is already being done through a few independent projects.
And yes, I did see the trades you posted, hence why I replied to your post:

A lot of those trades are unfair rarity wise, regardless of whatever artificially inflated value the Rares List gave them. Would I accept a handful of random rares for an OMGSR pet? Absolutely not. Would I accept a 2008 VR non-list pet for a pet of mine that was on the list at some point - perhaps even as high as the September list? I would actually, so long as the rarities and date match up, and so long as they both went VR at around the same time.

I might have worked hard for my list pets and paid a lot for them at some point, but I recognize the dissolution of the Rares List as a necessary step in mending the trading economy, and if I have to grin and bear a loss in profit so people in the future and new members have a better shot at trading and having fun, then so be it.

I fully agree with you Buddy. I am still trying to decide how to value things, but we have to remember that the values given by the list were completely user created and not actually a real reflection of then pet's rarity. A lot of pets that turned VR the same time as list pets were left off the list, so I would more than likely value them the same. The list retiring gives us the opportunity to trade more fairly and closer to the actual rarity and not go by 10k 09 rares = a sunjewel (which is ridiculous)

Exactly, the list was highly selective in which pets it included and which it did not, and the selection process was not at all accurate or trustworthy. Quite frankly, trading based solely on rarity would be far more precise than following the list ever was.

everyone understands its frustrating and trading is going to be rough for a while but please be patient. i traded over 2000 pets for a main list a few days before this was decided and you cant imagine how that has made me feel. we are all struggling, some more than others, but we're all going to have to get used to it. everything has gone into play. soon enough there will be new lists that we can reference to but until then we'll just have to be careful and work together to learn whats a safe trade and what isnt.

That wasn't what was being polled though. The discussion to create the poll took weeks and weeks and arguing and redoing and etc until these options were decided. It wasn't as simple as keep or end for a reason. Countless opinions were brought up until most people agreed on this poll. if you don't like those offers don't take them. Others might though and now they have the opportunity to discuss values with their partner until both parties are happy without people being labeled as scammers because they don't follow the false values set up by the list. I'm sorry this stressed you out and makes you angry, but this site when never really meant to revolve around something like this list in the first place. And actually your examples and reaction makes me even more believe that the list did more harm than good to the trading aspect of this game.

Yes exactly. The choices weren't really keep, keep, retire. They were keep, completely recreate a new list, retire. So 3 completely different options.
