Re: Rares List Discussion *DISCONTINUED*

Y'know, this may be a confusing time (I feel it myself), but I feel that the list being discontinued isn't going to be a negative thing, especially long term. It was a useful guide for a long time (as long as I can remember) and I've went by it myself like it seems the masses had. But while a lot of time and work went into it, and we should be grateful that people made an effort to give something like that to the community, it did have it's issues and confusing parts at times. That's why the community voted to change/retire it. Because we needed a fresh slate, either through new projects or extreme re-structuring.

It's still there, even if it's not being updated. Anyone can choose to still use it if they wish. And we aren't totally without a game plan, there's already several fresh guides based on rarity, numbers, and factual information being made. (Without considering demand at all, because we all know that is user-based individual opinion anyways)

Since I once followed the now discontinued rares list myself and I'm afraid of how to currently value my older/rarer pets, I will likely not be trading them until we have a reliable trading guide system going again. That's what will make me most comfortable. So for everyone asking how to value their pets now, nobody really knows for sure yet, and that's okay. Just do what makes YOU comfortable! I'll just stick to trading pets that I'm reasonably sure about the value on, and that for me is just as fun as trading very rares etc anyways.

I feel that with these new guides coming out, once things settle down and start to take shape, we will have many different, logical systems to create a general understanding of value for everyone who wishes to seek it. But CS users will finally have options. And that is a beautiful thing.

We're all a little uncertain about rarer pet values at the moment, but we have progress to look forward to. Later on, it may hopefully even be easier to trade for pets using new knowledge and factual evidence of why things are valued the way they are. And that sounds way better to me personally. That's just my personal take on this whole situation; maybe it can help someone else feel a little more at ease while everything seems a little chaotic at the moment.

I'm not. I never really wanted to, but I kind of had to with all the people using it.

I won't be following the list anymore of course. I already didn't. 1 omgsr should not be worth 15 other omgsrs. (EG. Sunjewel being worth 15 grapes?)
Loose trading is the way to go. Trust me.

I couldn't agree more with this!

I feel like a lot of people are afraid right now, particularly afraid that they're going to trade a pet away for less than the max possible value. but,,,,,trading should be about making yourself happy, not about feeling worried or guilty.

when the trading system was first implemented on cs, I was content just getting the pets that I wanted for my pets. I was happy, the other party was happy, and I didn't care. only after I discovered this list was I guilted into feeling bad about those trades because I was supposedly cheated and taken advantage of. I began to regret and worry. I decided not to trade rare pets anymore because clearly I didn't know enough about it to make a proper judgement. I'm sure my severe anxiety didn't help me either — I was literally so paranoid of screwing up and regretting it again that I blocked myself away from the trading community for years.

but,,,,,you know what? I don't regret those trades anymore. I was happy back then, content with what I had and what I got, and I'm tired of constantly worrying about making a mistake. I just want to have fun again and feel free of these negative feelings that I've held within myself for so many years. is it really such a bad thing to just be happy? to not care anymore and to just go by my own instincts? I want to return to that more than anything, and after this, I know I can.

so please,,,,,don't worry. I know you've put a lot of work and money into your pets collections. so have I. but wouldn't it just feel so nice to let go and enjoy cs again? why are we making it stressful when it doesn't have to be? it's okay to just be happy with a trade without making it 110% absolutely perfect. you win some, you lose some. thus is life, and life goes on! we will survive this and grow from this entire experience.

This is a great post, and summarizes what I've been feeling ever since the list was retired.
Weeks before the poll was made, I wasn't entirely certain how I was supposed to go on about playing the game, since I felt completely stuck and genuinely felt like I had to trade down my pets in order to make any sort of progress with my own goal. This was especially true when I kept my PPS Cat collection in mind, something that I'm very close to finishing. This never happened however, so I simply went back to lurking on the website and observing threads.

I would say that the impact of this was rather bad. I didn't have any other goals aside from my own personal collection, and I was solely focused on trading down/up the list. I never even thought about the list pets that I did like, because not only would it feel like a requirement to trade those pets off anyway (due to lack of trade fodder), but a good chunk of the list pets I like have bad demand, which means that it wouldn't even be worth it to trade for them - that's how I felt in this regard.

Then, the list was retired. I felt so extremely happy, because I no longer had to care. I no longer have to care about what I do with my own list pets, because I no longer have to be forced to use something that, for many years, was treated as law. To be fair, it was treated as law for reasons that I can understand, though over the years, the more time passed by, the more inaccurate it became. This is something I've noticed when I came back to this website.

I felt happy, and I still feel happy, that there are now multiple projects that I can choose to follow. I can finally hunt for pets that I sincerely love without feeling the need to make constant attempts at trade downs/ups just because of the list! I actually traded my Dark Pink Shima Butterfly Wolf for a Lexi Cake Dog, because I genuinely love that pet's design, and couldn't care less about its demand. I feel happy, because I no longer have to care about trade fodder or demand.

That said, as someone who's invested a lot of time into this website, I agree with the above - don't feel anxious or worry! When it comes to trading, things will only get better from now on.

I hope there will be people trading more loosely. So bad. Because I think that's the only way of ever getting some dreamies without giving up my entire collection :(

I guess we will see what happens.

I've been ready to ditch the list for ages :')
I'm really hoping that the retirement of the list means people will start re-evaluating the worth of previously "unknown" pets and realize that some of them have always been equal in value to various list pets.

Not to sound like a grumpy elder, but I've been here for almost every pet release bar two, and have a pretty good memory for which pets were less common or more sought after at the time, so even with pets that now have the same rarity (ex. all rare, all very rare) I do often still remember which of them turned rare first.
So for a lot of years I've kept running into situations where fair-by-the-list trades looked horrible to me because I knew for a fact that some of the "lower value" pets had actually turned VR before the list pet they were quantity-offered for.

The Watermelon dog turned VR before the Red Rose dog. Several advent 08 rats turned VR before the Blue Rose. The Null PPS and Dice PPS turned VR at the same time.
It was jarring to watch some evidently really rare pets be treated as "quantity currency" just for not being on the list.
People seem to worry that they'll now be offered "normal very rares" for their list pets, but especially when it comes to advent and september list pets, I hope people will come to realize that some of the "normal vrs" they might get offered were always as valuable as their list pet. It was just rarely acknowledged because few people researched beyond the list. With the list sitting right there, it felt to a lot of people like there wasn't a need to take a closer look at individual non-list pets. After all, if they were noteworthy, wouldn't they be on the list? Alas.

I truly hope that pets like these get the chance to shine now.

Couldn’t agree with you more, ZEL. I see a lot of people offering VR pets for past list pets because they’ve always wanted to have that pet as it’s a ‘dreamie’. When I swore by the list, I disregarded them and said that they should pay attention to the list now.
But I was wrong.
The list has ruined the chance for so many equally rare pets to shine. As well as demand factors. It upsets me because there are so many beautifully designed pets out there that are rare and didn’t make the list, as well as those that WERE on the list, such as the speckled rats. I hope that the scales will begin to tip. It’s not a fast process, though.

It going be so odd without the list guide, while I very exciting to see the change, it going be hard for the next few weeks and months, I can't wait to see how people treat pets differently, it going be so worth it at the end though. Honestly if going be so weird as it coming for 3 years since I joined cs and the list is all I know. Can't wait for new guides and this new release of energy that cs needs, rip list guide,

Hello! I posted this in the wrong area originally, so I'm pasting this in the proper area now! Thank you for your patience!
Maybe I'm in the wrong place with my question (and please re-direct me if I am, I'm an old lady who is always confused) but with the list possibly changing/dissolving what does that mean for pets of high rarity that don't have demand factored in? Do the values of pets like the Royal Litter go up?
Image

I have a ton of old, very rare pets that aren't on "the list" and it's frustrating to think that to acquire just one pet I may have to trade all of them away because of "the list" increasing the rarity and that only pets on "the list" can be traded for them, even if the pet I have is OLDER than the pet I'm seeking. At what point is the concept of "Overpay" and the concepts of demand adding influence above just rarity dissolve the entire economy?
Does that make sense?

Or am I just an old frustrated fusspot?

Thanks again for your patience everyone!!

You could go by rarity changes. There's a lot of pets that went very rare the same time, or even before a lot of the advent and September list. A lot of these are bunnies and rats, but some of these are very hard to find. For people wanting a complete collection, these pets would be worth trading for.

now that's interesting :/ It will take a long time I'm sure for the trading to regulate again. We all still see the list pets as more valuable whether they actually are or not. I remember in my first dec 18th in 2011, can't find the trade now but I got the pink 2008 august heart rat and traded it for an october 2008 very rare teal dog and a lap top. This was before these rats were placed on the list, they were worth nothing. Truly interesting to see the impact it had
