♕DUSKFEATHER! !
female ✮ thirty-six moons old ✮ medicine cat ✮ sunclan allegiance ✮ t. mintpaw
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
xxxwhiskers twitch on duskfeather's brown muzzle as she takes a spot next to her apprentice. her response isn't as enthusiastic as the medicine cat had hoped. had her apprentice been getting enough sleep? perhaps gathering herbs from the border could wait, or duskfeather could certainly get them herself. overworking a young cat was simply something she didn't want to do; but with a demanding task to be met, she knew she had no choice but to continue on. quietly, she wipes away the poultices and leaves that had fallen from the various storing piles from her brown fur with a free paw. it isn't until her ears swivel closer towards her apprentice does she hear mintpaw ask the older molly a question.
xxx her face gives a puzzled expression, what lead mintpaw to ask her this question? surely, duskfeather had no clue. but nevertheless, she shrugs and gives her apprentice a small grin. "i can tell you, but you must promise me you'll eat before our adventure. we can split a bird if necessary." she huffs. duskfeather hadn't known much about her apprentice's lack of appetite, but knew that keeping up strength was important. for warriors and medicine cats alike.
xxxonce she finds a spot in the clearing, amongst other sunclan cats enjoying their time, she turns her head towards the small silver and black tabby.
xxx"listen, at first i wasn't entirely certain that you'd be satisfied with the life of a medicine cat. it certainly gets tedious, and apprentices love training together. it's a risky path we've taken, the both of us, but one i knew you'd be able to master." she clears her throat, "the day you arrived at camp, nobody was sure of what to do. i was the only medicine cat at the time, and i remember-" she stops herself. you remember feeling alone? how broken you were? "...i remember how the queens had praised you. your quiet demeanor, your timidness. they had called you mintkit. i had been in my den for quite some time, only to notice a certain bug had found it's way inside. now, signs from starclan don't come around often, but the beetle had found it's way onto my herb pile; ontop of some mint i had collected earlier. it was if beetlewing had chosen our paths to cross." duskfeather looked up to the sky, slowly the medicine cat's, eyes begin to cloud over, green gaze taking on the hue of a forest in a hurricane as she begins again. "after that, i began to talk to gorsestar about you. about your apprenticeship. and how i knew you were fit for the role. most cats don't have the patience you do."
♚FLINT!! !
male ✮ forty two moons old ✮ the kittypet ✮ no allegiance ✮ t. open
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
xxx the kittypet's nose twitched as he picked up new scents all around the new grounds. blue eyes scan the area for something to look at, but the only thing he can manage to find are the few small lizards that scramble across the rocks. he's got her ears perked on the back of her head, trying to see if there's anything he missed while her mind wandered. he's not entirely certain of the clan's exact borders yet, nor did he know of any clan cats that existed outside of kittypet legend. flint can remember his best friend, aaron, telling him about the feral cats in the woods: how their fur was mangled and torn, and how they almost fought him due to his stout appearance and homestead. contrary to popular belief, flint wasn't stupid, just incredibly curious. flint was often bored at his small home, and his human always had a job to attend to. the few moments she returned were some of the best moments of his life, but were short-lived.
xxxthat's why he finds himself going on this excursion. his paws aren't used to the unfamiliar terrain, and yet he continues anyways. he'd prove aaron wrong; cats wouldn't just live in the forest while there were perfectly normal homes to live in, would they? well, flint would find out sooner or later. his head was held high as he drew closer to territory, blissfully unaware of any dangers that littered his path. to him, this way just another day out in the woods.

Seeing no fish that were interesting or active, he huffed and turned around to head back to camp with nothing in his paws. Might as well train with Squirrelpaw and get it over with, Ripplefang thought to himself with a roll of his eyes. It was somewhat quiet in camp, but his apprentice was waiting patiently at the entrance and glancing around the almost empty clearing. It wasn't unusual for him to be up this early, too. He stopped in front of Squirrelpaw and looked down at the smaller tom, only dipping his head slightly in greeting. The warrior was often silent and harsh, but that was how the apprentice would be raised to become a warrior as well. Ripplefang's eyes inspected the apprentice and noticed that he seemed to have a lot of energy this morning, as always. He had a certain light in his eyes that always gave off what he was thinking, and it was usually something mischievious. "What would you like to do this morning? No one else is awake," he asked, giving Squirrelpaw a chance to make a smart choice.

She glanced over at the younger apprentice and settled down when she commented on the stomach growl gently, mentioning that the hunting patrol would return. "I hope they catch some delicious and juicy prey," Lightpaw sighed dreamily and licked her jaw subconsciously. She snapped out of her daze and felt her ears warm up, embarrassed again. The patrol soon came to the border, and there were scents all over. Some of them were hard to discern, and she didn't know what the majority of them were. Rabbits? Fish from the river not far from here? Cats from Rainclan? "What do you smell, Sandpaw?" she asked the other apprentice. Though Sandpaw was younger, she was definitely smarter. Perhaps she could smell better than Lightpaw. Everything was a little overwhelming all at once.

xXxXxWolfheart followed the smell of the mouse, keeping his body low to the ground as he tracked the scent trail left by the prey. He moved through the grass quietly and swiftly, fixated on the trail as it grew stronger, a sign that he was getting close. Finally, he began to scan the area in front of him. The smell of mouse flooded his nostrils, telling him that the prey was nearby. Sure enough, a faint scuffling noise caught his attention, and he pressed himself even lower, the blades of grass beneath him just touching his belly. The mouse was darting in between plants, scraping at the dirt with its small feet, busying itself with a search of food. Perfect.
xXxXxWolfheart took a small step forward, mindful of where he placed his paw, hoping to not cause any disturbances in the ground. The mouse paused in its activity and Wolfheart froze, waiting patiently for the creature to begin rummaging again. As it scuttled towards another cluster of foliage, the grey-and-white tom advanced further, bringing his paws beneath him as he readied his body. With a raise of his hackles, the warrior leapt upon the mouse, grabbing it before it had chance to scamber away. 'Thank you StarClan for this meal!' He thanked silently, picking the mouse up in his mouth, tailtip flicking with satisfaction.
xXxXxHe began heading back towards camp, keeping aware of any particular prey scents that could catch his attention, but not particularly looking for anything. He passed by recent trails of his clanmates - the morning patrol, he decided - and kept on moving. Satisfied that he was close enough to camp that retrieving the mouse would be quick, he placed the prey down and buried it. There was a gentle cover of trees in this part of the territory, so he hoped to come across something more substantial than the small meal a mouse would provide. He began to examine the scents beneath the trees, trying to discover a fresh track. 'Ah, there it is,' he smiled silently, noting the specific stench of a squirrel that had been around not long ago. He began to track once more.

She had trained several apprentices since being one herself, able to pass on the necessary warrior skills thanks to her own mentor.
xXxXxBy the time she was brought out of her thoughts, she was near the border of the territory, markings across the trees and rocks that formed the invisible division between the two clans, aside from the river, of course. The fog was lighter here, now that she was on the outskirts of the RainClan territory. She peered across the border, seeing the trees open up to form the moors of SunClan. Rowanstep continued on with the dawn patrol his tail swaying slowly. Every now and then he would glance over his shoulder to make sure the others we're following him. His paws crunched on the forest undergrowth his ears twitching at every noise. So far everything looked good. That was good. He didn't want to report any problems to Gorsestar. He continued to lead the dawn patrol his ears pricked. His eyes darted around looking for any signs of trouble. Nothing. His ears then twitched as he heard Lightpaw. He slowed and gazed back at the two apprentices. This he realized would be a good test. He would see which one of them could pick up what that scent was first.

Dawnpaw bounded after the warriors his tail lashing in the wind. His paws splashed in the water his fur bristling at the chill. He had been an apprentice for a while now and even though he was a RainClan cat he didn't care much for the chilly water. He continued at a steady trot after the warriors and Tidepaw. His ears twitched as he made his way through the reeds. He was sure that he could sneak through those reeds unnoticed. Of course, he didn't say that out loud. His eyes darted around searching for any signs of prey or danger. He scented the air as well. Nothing so far. He then noticed that the others had stopped and the warriors appeared to be chatting about something. Sighing he stood there his tail twitching. He noticed that Tidepaw had stayed with him. He didn't care much. He glanced at the she-cat as she gave him a small smile. He merely returned it with a slight nod. He wanted to get this training over with. Out of boredom he lifted his paw out of the water shaking it. He then lowered it and studied the water his eyes never wavering his ears pricked.

Foxpaw pads at a quick pace out of camp. She lets out a small grunt at the feel of the wet. leaf covered earth squishing beneath her paws. The mud was cool and grabbed at her feet as she moved along the reeds toward the edge of camp. Foxpaw hardly noticed these things, or it would seem she didn't. But in truth the young she cat was on a mission to gather the last few surviving herbs before leaf-bare completely took over, "I need to search the river side for feverfew and marigold." She mutters to herself taking a nimble leap over the streams that bordered the camp missing the cold water by near inches, "I also need to search the far end of the territory for other herbs." There was a small trace of stress on the young apprentices face, but it was a reasonable one for a medicine cat with a fast approaching leaf-bare especially with a lack of herbs in the medicine den.

Rosefoot flickered her tail as she looked around the scarce trees. She wondered if Wolfheart was around at all. He left the den earlier than her, and she did not see him around camp. The dark colored she-cat sniffed the air, trying to locate Wolfheart's scent. She picked it up a little bit, picking up her pace and padding towards the scent. Her whiskers twitched as she moved forward through the bushes and the brambles. She moved upwind from him, smirking a bit, hoping to catch him off guard. Rosefoot began moving forward to follow his trail. Seeing his tail, she moved forward more through the bushes. Sniffing, she caught the scent of the squirrel that he was following. She perched up on a small rock they walked past. "What did that squirrel do to deserve being hunted?" Rosefoot finally spoke up, a teasing tone to her voice. Hoping to catch him off guard.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬xxxxxxxxSandpaw glanced at her fellow apprentice, cracking a bit of a smile as Lightpaw sighed. As the came to the border, and Lightpaw asked her a question, Sandpaw glanced around. They seemed to be around the southern side of the border, if the sound of a river nearby was anything to show. She opened her jaws a bit to scent what the apprentice was referring too, and found more of a mix than anything else. She noticed that Rowanstep had slowed and was looking back at them, and tried harder to pick out what they were. If they were along the southern border, that meant both clans would have left markers around here, right? She could recognize the smell of her own clan, albeit thicker here along the border, and quickly cast it aside in search of another. She wrinkled her nose as a fishy smell came through, mixed with that of mud and dirt. "Is that RainClan? she meowed, looking back towards Lightpaw and Rowanstep.
[♤] ❝AMBERTHROAT❞ --------{ she/her | rainclan warrior | 30 moons }-----{ Location: rainclan territory (marshes) }
--------{ tagged: sunshadow, dawnpaw }---{ mentioned: n/a }
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬xxxxxxxxAmberthroat nodded at Sunshadow in agreement as they continued forward. The ground was turning to mud under-paw, and the croaking of frogs grew louder as they neared their destination. "That could work. We'll have to go easy on them, though." she mused lightheartedly. "This'll help with their skills in tracking, too, since they'll have to follow us first."
xxxxxxxxThe four cats broke free of the lush forestry at last, and into the marshes. There was little actual undergrowth here, with how much was underwater. It seemed like no cat would get out of getting their paws wet this training session. Most of the vegetation was either grass or reed, generously crowding the landscape. Large, tangled roots were plentiful as well, it was as though even the muddy banks couldn't keep out RainClan's trees. All of it was completed with the ever-hanging fog, making it hard to rely on sight alone. She could hear a multitude of amphibians, and her dark-green eyes caught the silver scales of fish glinting in the deeper waters. Hopefully they wouldn't scare the prey away for later hunting patrols, food seemed to be plentiful here even in leaf-fall. She stopped as murky water washed over her paws, and halted, turning back to the apprentices. She hoped Sunshadow wouldn't mind her being the one to address them. "Alright. Sunshadow and I figured we'd give you two a sort of an... assessment before we go into the real training." she locked eyes with Tidepaw, and then Dawnpaw as she spoke. "We'll both go into the marsh, and you two will wait a few moments before following. Count to ten, if you must. Then, you both will split up and see if you can follow us and tag us with your paws without us picking up on you. Whether you do or don't, we'll meet up back here when we're finished." She meowed, leaving no room for discussion from the two. Nodding at Sunshadow, she turned and slinked off into the reeds, her mottled pelt blending in easily with their shade. She continued, treading silently until the water came half-way up her paws and the reeds had lightened up a bit, and slowed down even more, waiting for any signs of her apprentice, Dawnpaw. She hoped Sunshadow and Tidepaw were doing the same.
[➶] ❝TIDEPAW❞ --------{ she/her | rainclan apprentice | 10 moons }-----{ Location: rainclan territory (marshes) }
--------{ tagged: dawnpaw, sunshadow }---{ mentioned: n/a }
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬xxxxxxxxTidepaw turned back to look ahead, a little dejected that she wasn't able to get much of a response, but she continued after their mentors nonetheless. She just hoped this wouldn't be too hard. As they came to a halt, Tidepaw glanced around at the marshes. They were huge, and she'd be a bit more anxious if she hadn't been there before, even if it was just in passing the previous time. She snapped out of her thoughts as one of the tortoiseshells, Amberthroat, spoke. Her fur prickled a bit as she listened. They'd be practicing on their mentors? That added a lot more weight to the situation. Tidepaw glanced down at her paws as the she-cat continued. Her silver fur definitely didn't fit in with the darker grasses and murky-brown water. She was much more suited for rivers or streams. Hopefully the grasses would be enough to cover her, or the water deep enough at-least. She perked up as Amberthroat headed off, and glanced up at her mentor, waiting for him to do the same.

sunclan | med. cat apprentice | she/her - bi | 7 moons | location: camp | tagged: duskfeatherthe british shorthair's sleek tail uncovered her paws nervously as she noticed the change of expression on her mentor's face. her anxiety soon faded as duskfeather grinned, it made mintpaw release a sweet smile too. her head tilted to the left ever so slightly and she nodded, her dark chartreuse gaze trailing to the side. she had a minor fear that her habits would become known to the whole clan. a part of mintpaw wanted to tell duskfeather. after all, she was medicine cat and her mentor. sooner or later, she told herself and followed the brown molly out of the den.
she took a place beside the medicine cat and looked into duskfeather's sharp green eyes. mintpaw beamed with euphoria as she heard her mentor's words. one i knew you'd be able to master. those words rang in her head. she knew being medicine cat apprentice held lot of responsibilities and she was overjoyed the day she got selected for it. her paws shifted beneath her. it was some sort of thing she just did on her own when she was anxious, most of the time she never even realised she was doing it. the habit had certainly got annoying because some warriors had called her out on it during meetings and such. she couldn't help being such a skittish cat. her smile only grew wider as she mentioned the queens praising her. she always thought her shyness was a bad thing. mintpaw didn't quite remember who, but some cat in sunclan had told her they named her mintkit for her sweet personality and behaviour towards the other kits.
after duskfeather finished explaining the bug crawling its way upon some mint, she noticed the molly's chin lift and she looked up with her. the she-cat wasn't sure why but she went along with it. she turned her head towards the medicine cat. her eyes caught some sort of glint in them, "thank you duskfeather. sorry, i had been wondering it for a while." she mewed politely with a hint of apology in her tone.

xXxXxTotally fixed on the hunt, Wolfheart was completely unaware of Rosefoot or her scent nearby. His gaze was glued on the area just in front of him, moving cautiously across the grass. Finally spotting the squirrel in the distance, he paused, preparing himself for the final leap. Instead, the sudden words spooked him, and Wolfheart bounced up with a yelp and crashed back down, sending the squirrel scuttling away to safety. His back was arched from partial fear, partial wariness, though realising it was Rosefoot, he relaxed. Exhaling deeply, he was relieved to find the voice that had spooked him was only his friend, and he grinned at her. "Well the squirrel isn't being hunted anymore, that's for sure," he laughed, hopping up on the rock beside her. Wolfheart gave a playful swipe at the molly, fur still slightly unruffled on the back of his neck. "I think if I'd jumped any higher, I'd be nearing StarClan!" "I suppose we could hunt and then practice battle moves," he agreed begrudgingly. Maybe that will tire him out for today, and he'll be a little sore tomorrow, Ripplefang thought. His nose slightly twitched in disdain at the glee in Squirrelpaw's eyes, but he'd have to deal with it.
"Well, let's go. We'll go into the territory, since there aren't many fish in the river," Ripplefang explained and turned to go. He knew that they would have to work on fishing, but he wasn't up for it today. That would be a lot of work. He flicked his tail tip and began walking, knowing that Squirrelpaw would follow him to train.

She sniffed the air again, and she could smell the cats beside her as well as old Sunclan cats' scents. It took Lightpaw a few moments to recognize the other strong scent, and she agreed, "I also smell Rainclan! Did they cross the border?" She glanced around and wondered if there was an enemy on their side of the border right now. The river's current was too loud for Lightpaw to hear very much, and she obviously couldn't smell too well to track a cat's path. She shuddered, partly due to fear of meeting a Rainclan cat in a hostile time and partly due to the chill in the air today. She had only seen a Rainclan cat at the last gathering, but that seemed like so long ago and none of the cats didn't really mingle very much during the gatherings. Lightpaw peered at the invisible border, only marked by the elements of the forest, and wondered what would happen if she crossed.
