*DISCONTINUED* Rares List Guide (1 March 2019)

I honestly don’t see why late store pets don’t deserve to be highly demanded and more valuable than another very rare from their year. Store pets actually cost money to obtain, it’s not like anyone can just adopt them for free. Keep in mind as well that there were fewer players back then, and therefore fewer that would spend their real life money on this game making the store pets even less common. These pets (as far as we know) will never be rereleased so will only become more difficult to obtain over time. I’m sorry but I just think they shouldn’t be under valued just so people can own one easily.
Please note I’m not saying they’re worth an arm and a leg, I think some of the trades are insane as well.

Also, I thought of this a while back but forgotten to post it; if the list is retired and list pets are seen as being worth the same as any other VR from they’re time, what’s to stop people hoarding them to the point where there’s hardly any in circulation? I for one would most certainly hoard one or two as I love the designs, and if they’re so much easier to get them hoards will be larger and more people may start to hoard them.

^ Supply and demand. It's why the Hyena Advents, TWAS and St Paddy's dragon used to be valued much more highly than they are now before hoards were disbanded.

Lol nickjr I'm going to assume you didn't mean to imply I was uneducated Whether it is considered proper grammar or not you have to admit quotations are often used for emphasis and in this situation I highly doubt the use of the quotation marks were to imply sarcasm, they have been used to draw attention to the word The.

As far as the claims that C$ is not valued/desired, it has been far from my experience, most of my lists came about directly or indirectly as a result of C$ trading.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I have come to believe that this list is supposed to be based on a balance of both rarity and demand but if that's true, I don't think it's close to accurate, especially demand wise. For instance, I was once one of the people lucky enough to get a mountain zebra in my horse adopts in the past. All I really wanted at the time was the ur Phoenix (bc one of my friends was in love with it.) Of course it was a couple years ago so demand might have been a bit higher but this is the trade it took to get it:

And the user told me that it was the August pps that made them decide to accept my trade. At the time I was totally embarrassed I had to trade that much for it and thought I was just an unskilled trader but the zebras just don't go for that much demand wise.

I think if the rares list is going to continue, some big changes definitely need to be made and how the balance of rarity/demand is decided needs to be discussed further.

@the convoy about the quotations. What is or isnt proper usage or meaning doesn't really matter if the general public has a different perception of what they mean.

I think the use of quotation marks is fairly nuanced and open to interpretation but I think the implication behind the use here is that it was just the title and not really meant to imply officiallness, whether that is what people infer or not.

I don't think I said that C$ is not valued nor desired, just that it is less valued or desired than FR currency. It's muuuuuuuch easier to mess around with FR gems/treasure than it is with C$ for the reasons I've stated. It's why off-site is used as a medium to climb rather than C$ itself. That being said, the tradeability of C$ is much downplayed by the community and in particular the FTT. You can definitely trade C$ for lists - especially higher lists - but it becomes annoying and it is significantly more tedious in my experience to try and pester someone to take C$ for their non-dog than it would be to trade 6k-7kg for a non on FR. CS only has one of two options for C$: use it in the store, or hope to trade it for a pet of... similar value, I guess? FR has dozens of options.

TL;DR what happened was people kicked up a fuss out of fear about the demand of store pets and the like increasing and people were scared that if they were raised to reflect their demand, that that initself would inflate demand more. It was decided as a community, that for the better, the list would try to remove as much demand as possible from the list so as to prevent people adding demand on to pets which are already placed with demand. This is why a lot of OMGSRs below the gap were moved up to above the non-tier to more accurately reflect their rarity, rather than demand.

That was really quick and jumbled but I hope you get the idea. Although, I agree that the list should have always factored rarity and demand equally - I hated the change.

What would you personally like to see done with the Rares List?

NOTE: Anyone on CS is allowed to create and run their own lists, whether they are based in rarity, demand, both, or none at all. The following are other active list projects available;

- The Rarity Trade Guide

These threads are allowed by staff; anyone may make a community guide with a different focus than those already created. However, no threads (including this one) are endorsed by staff, and none should be taken as law. The trading community is diversifying and this list is not the end all be all. Regardless of the outcome of this poll, there will be no enforcement of this list above any other and it is recommended that if you do not agree with this list that you move on to other projects after the conclusion of the poll. That will greatly reduce the amount of debate in this thread (or its successor) and allow those who want to work on it to do so.

1. Maintain - keep the Rares List the same but update pet values.

Nothing about the structure of the thread or the way it is run will change. Edits would be made to reflect the new rarity changes and changes in the market, but they would happen with a community poll for each move. There is a list of pets to be addressed on the first page that will be discussed (to which anyone can add any pet). This option believes that the list is salvageable in its current form and will remain an important trading guide on CS.

2. Restructure - vote on ways to majorly update, restructure or rebuild the Rares List.

The list in its current form will be updated in both pet placement and overall structure. There will be polls what to do with the foundation of the list. While a part of the list might stay the same, big things will change.

Examples: Smaller tiers and gaps (which makes pets closer in value),locking this thread and restarting/restructuring for a new start, no gaps list, community input via faster, shorter paced polls, pet movement to decrease demand influences, rarity taken more into account, etc.

However, plenty of other polls will be run if this option wins in order to decide a direct course of action based on discussion after the completion of this poll.

3. Retire - discontinue the list and stop updating it.

This option is for those who believe that the list has too many flaws for a working end to come from it. If you want to move away from the list, this is the option for you. This option does not mean the list will be deleted; it will always be available to look at it. Users who want to use this as a trading guide will be able to do so. Even if you vote this option, a list that includes rarity/demand will likely be created. Other list projects are available (listed above), and people can create new lists if they please, but this individual thread will remain inactive. No other pet move updates will be done on this thread, it will be left 100% exactly the same as is now (aside from lay-out changes to indicate that this list is no longer updated).

4. Undecided - don't know but show me the poll results

Reposting this since it got buried and more things added. Once again, feel free to add to this or say if I something is wrong. This is just a tldr version of what I saw in this thread. I still have some catching up to do with reading before my first post.


Arguments for retiring the list

A) The rares list controls the economy. People are kind of forced to use it, even if they don't want to
B) It is not well maintained and/or it takes forever to add/move pets
C) It's toxic and has caused other attempts of lists to shut down/get deleted
D) It is far too much work to update and should be trashed
E) It is better to use other guides
F) It would be better for the trading economy
G) It would make trading easier
H) The list is part of the reason people get scammed
I) This list should be a community thing, but is run by a small group of people
J) The value of list pets is insane. (10k 2009 VR for a sunjewel, 100-200 2009 rares (VR?) for a sorbet/non)
K) The list influences demand. Some pets are only desired because they are on the list.
L) A list based on demand is a bad idea. The value of pets keeps rising, making them harder and harder to get and demand keeps changing.
M) Getting list pets can take years, especially if you don't use C$ or offsite trading.



Arguments for restructure (and against retiring the list)

A) Nobody will be able to know what their pets are worth anymore
B) We need a list to know what pets are more valuable than others
C) Emotional/Personal attachment, I guess?
D) It will destroy the trading economy
E) The list is to know what pets are the most rare/valuable
F) It will make trading more difficult if the list is gone
G) The list has been part of CS for years
H) People will get scammed more often
I) I like the challenge of getting list pets
J) I already spent so long on getting list pets, I don't want them to lose value
