Seven cats were on the watch. Their eyes glinted knowingly as they looked from one another, keeping an eye on the clan from various places. They had their suspicions. They had narrowed down the suspects. The only thing to do was wait for living proof, and then the clan would be safe. Then they would descend on the murderer, exposing them to the clan.


Pearcloud's pale golden tail was wrapped around his paws, his dark green eyes examining the camp. It had been five moons since Fritillarywing had left, and he missed the she-cat. Since she had left the clan had been more active then normal, but cats didn't talk to each other as much. He shyly watched the camp, and noticed it was quiet - it always was these days.

A few cats were clustered here and there, but it was mostly quiet. The patrols were out and so were most of the apprentices, with only Snowpaw, Hailpaw and Swanpaw, along with a few other cats. He wasn't tired, so he didn't go to his nest, but wasn't particularly hungry either. He was planning to take Swanpaw out soon, but he was waiting for someone they could train with - he preferred company, and as the forest had a creepy atmosphere these days. Nobody knew who had murdered Fernshine (Poppyfang, Barkfern and Buttonstream had given her a warrior name too) and it felt like there were eyes everywhere.

Suddenly there was movement from the camp entrance, and Pearcloud tensed, his whiskers twitching in surprise. Then he noticed Jaywhisker - who had been named not only for her long whiskers, but for her sensitivity and skill - and thought of her mentor, Fritillarywing. The calico warrior had missed most of the apprentices training, and instead it had Beeheart who had been mentoring her.

Pearcloud then saw the rest of the patrol come in, and was about to meow a friendly greeting when a calico walked into the camp after Poppyfang, scaring him. He blinked, the fur on his tail standing on end, shocked."Fritillarywing?" he asked, gazing at her nervously. "No, I'm Berry," she meowed, and quickly Pearcloud noticed the differences. The she-cat looked extremely similar to Fritillarywing, with her fur almost same and by the way she walked, but he saw that she had a sturdier build, built for strength rather than speed, and she had more amber eyes rather than Fritillarywing's green eyes similar to his own. Heat flooded him from ears to tail in embarrassment, and he ducked his head. "Sorry," he meowed, looking at his paws. He heard the usual silence as the clan observed the scene, and when looking up he saw looks of pity, surprise and welcome in their eyes.

"My sister is Fritillary - Fritillarywing though, if that's her name here," the she-cat revealed quietly, looking around camp before staring at him again. She had the same kindness in her voice, but her voice was quieter and had a softer touch than her sister's, and the look in her eyes was unfamiliar to him, not one of friendship and happiness, but belonging to a stranger, someone do similar to Fritillarywing but so different. It was so close to the end of the calico's quest, and he was already being taunted by knowing that she was distant, but not close enough for them to speak again.

Pearcloud nodded, feeling confused. He knew he would have to sit for he ceremony where she was named, being introduced to the clan, and all that, and it felt odd that it was not Fritillarywing who was being welcomed to the clan, but rather an identical cat. He walked away, noticing Swanpaw looking at him hopefully, and decided to use his mentor responsibilities and train the tom, with or without company of another cat. After the ceremony at least, then they would be able to train. That would be when the cats were all in camp.

"Pearcloud, Sandyfeather, can you get the gathering patrol, as well as the mentors and apprentices? We need to welcome this cat and can't have a ceremony without the rest of the clan," Honeystripe said, noticing the bemused look in his eyes. He gladly followed the deputy's order, ready to get out of camp and avoid the new cat.

It was going to be one strange moon, and Pearcloud wondered, as he ran out of camp with Sandyfeather pulling in front of him, how he was going to manage. He was looking forward to seeing the calico, but first needed to wait. Birchgaze would know what to do, and as he saw the gathering patrol in sight, he knew he should talk to his friends. Distancing himself from other cats while he had waited for the six moons to pass was no going to help anything, and if he wanted to be able to talk to the calico she-cat, as well as manage some kind of conversation with the newest clan member, then first he would have to communicate with his clanmates and be confident.

[Poppyfang, Barkfern, Buttonstream, Nightfeather, Pansypetal, Peachdawn and Rainfall narrow down the cats they suspect the most. Their discoveries will be revealed as soon as they have their suspicions about one of their suspects confirmed]

Poppy purred, then stopped, looking down at her paws "Too bad we're going into different dens now." Snowball wilted partially, but shook it off. "Oh well, we'll still see each other! I mean we're sisters, look at Sidon and Mikau!"

Poppy tilted her head "Uhm, they're both Builders. I'm a Guard, and you're a Hunter." Snowball shrugged "Oh well, we're sisters. Cream's a hunter but she's always coming down here to talk to us." Poppy gave a weak smile "Yeah, I guess."

Aiden and Angel were curled up in the hunter's den, taking advantage of the recently expanded floor's new rooms. Lapping at Angel's cheek, Aiden didn't hear the pawsteps until Rose's scent, the new hunter, washed over him, and he heard the new she-cat let out a startled gasp.

Turning his head, Aiden's ear twitched as he looked up at the female hunter, who looked both surprised and embarrassed. "I'm sorry, you two probably want to be alone right now, I can find you again later." Rose said, staring to back up. In a fluid movement, Angel rose from the nest and tilted his head "You wanted to see us? Does Pumpkin or Spirit want us for a patrol?"

Rose shook her head "No! No, I... I was talking to Glitter, she was checking me over to make sure I was healthy and everything, you know, ready for duty, and Pumpkin was across the hall talking about Poppy and Snowball's ceremony, and like...her voice is really loud, or sound just carries up there, anyways, I mentioned to Glitter that kits would be amazing to have, and she told me about you two and your situation so...yeah, I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you'll have me, I'll be your surrogate."

Over the past moon, an elderly queen and her five kits had made their way into Lunarclan. Fallenstar accepted them, and after they were settled, the queen, whos name was now Frostheart, revealed that her kits weren't hers by birth. "They're all from different litters, I knew their parents." she shook her head, bald ears flapping slightly at the tips "what happened..shouldn't have happened."

With Frostheart and the kits joining, Fallenstar decided to move Mosstalon, Cloudmask, Pidgeonfeather, and Berrypaw over to the second camp. He instructed Mosstalon to return every half-moon to report, and she was doing a good job. She'd even reported that Berrypaw would soon be ready to be made a warrior, which meant the ceremony would need to be conducted soon.

Then there was the matter of Smoketuft's kitting, she was due any day now. Frostheart told him not to worry, all cats came from somewhere, cats had been kitting since the dawn of time. Acornweb had agreed, and was planning on assisting the queen if she needed it. Frostheart had also volunteered her services, so long as Brightkit could keep her litter busy. Brightkit had agreed easily, saying it was about time he had someone to play with. Fallenstar noticed that the young tom was old enough to start his training, and added that to his mental list. He'd have to ask Mosstalon to bring the others on her next report, that way they could all see Brightkit's ceremony.

The tom licked his licks nervously, and didn’t even see Wolfstep sit beside him. “Don’t worry, she’ll be fine. As long as she doesn’t have a deformed kitten who takes her life and lives with a miserable two legs, everything will work out. It seemed the Tower Walkers had hit the perfect stride in life. Although, it was a little empty of young life. There were enough cats to do everything that needed done, but no cats were overworked or growing lazy. Rose had moved into the nursery, and aiden and angel were near-constantly purring as they did their work. Pumpkin had a full council, and life was good.

Of course, just saying that was probably asking for disaster, but for the time being, every cat was content.
