Valentine’s Day. What a stupid day.
The man sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He dug his hand into his pocket, and dragged it out. He clicked the middle button with his thumb with a small hope that he would receive a text from her, but to no avail. He stared at it for a few more minutes, transfixed, as if he could direct a text to his phone with his mind.
He eventually gave up and put the phone back into his pocket.
"Jake?"
He looked up and saw a young woman walk towards him. He stood up, and put an arm around her as he kissed her cheek.
"Hi Emma" he said in her ear, before pulling out her chair for her to sit down. Sitting back down himself, he put his elbows on the table and leaned forwards across the table. The young woman had long brown hair, and a pixie like face. She was very pretty, he thought to himself half-heartedly.
"How have you been?" he asked her, his intense golden eyes locked on her hazel ones.
Before she could reply, the waiter came between them and asked for their order. The restaurant they were in was dark, lit by candles with roses on each table. As Emma ordered her meal, Jake felt a shiver run up his spine as the door opened and let in a cold breeze. He turned his head slightly to look over Emma's shoulder, to feel his heart drop.
It was Alexia and Damien. They were still together? He hadn't spoken to Alexia in nearly half a year, since she and Damien officially became a couple.
His eyes followed them as they moved to a table that was annoyingly in his line of sight. Alexia was looking fantastic as usual, her blonde hair was cut so it suited her face, and she wore a backless navy blue dress that, once again, showed off her long tanned legs. From what Jake could see, Damien was wearing a black shirt and jeans. The top button was undone on his shirt, which showed the top of his tanned chest. Jake wrinkled up his nose slightly, and looked back at Emma who was talking to him.
He nodded, and said, "I know right?" so that she would continue talking and he would pick up the conversation.
Their meal arrived, and the two of them looked down at their food and started to eat. Jake found his eyes wondering back to Alexia. He watched how her eyes sparkled when Damien was talking, how her face broke into a smile, how the candle light enhanced her already flawless features. She was so beautiful.
He looked down again and stuffed another forkful of food into his mouth, and looked back at the couple. They were holding hands now. Jake suddenly felt sick, and jerked his head back towards his food. A few minutes later, he looked up again. What was this? Damien was sitting next to her. Jerk had obviously shuffled his chair around to get closer to her. Now Jake could see the way he was looking at her. He still had a hungry glint in his eye that Jake hated. Jake noticed that their legs were touching, that man's arm around Alexia's shoulder. Oh god, she was looking at his lips. She wanted to kiss him.
Oh how Jake longed for her to look at him that way. His vision blurred as he thought of being in Damien’s place, him and Alexia alone, their legs touching, intimate.
He came back to a harsh reality as he found that he was stared at Alexia and Damien, who were know kissing. Jake's mouth fell open with shock. Upset, he found that he couldn't move his eyes away from her. Her soft delicate hand was on that man's undeserving chest, her body pressed up against his.
Jake's head began to spin. His mouth felt dry.
He stood up suddenly, knocking into the table and knocking over his wine glass. The sound of glass shattering sent the restaurant into silence, and all eyes turned to him, including Alexia's. He noticed her expression change as she saw him, but he looked away from her.
"I'm leaving Emma" he said roughly, picking up his jacket and storming out of the silenced restaurant, all eyes on him, leaving a tearful and shocked Emma behind, and a frowning Alexia wrapped in Damien's arms.

I saw him pounce to my front door, ding the bell, and slip back with his hands in his pockets. Oh, Bobby--always hiding those palms! I raced down those stairs so swiftly I almost tripped; my long, strawberry blond hair danced behind me, ready to fall when I did. Soon my hand enclosed the doorknob, and I twisted [but didn't shout!] to hear the click-clang, and whipped the door outta the way.

Bobby's orange hair illuminated his soft grin. I flew to him like a magnet, quickly wrapping my arms around him.
"Oh, Bobby! So glad you came to see me today!"

We pried apart. "I just had to see my girl's pretty face, that's all."

I blushed. "Thank you, babe." We quickly slipped into the living room and popped in a little DVD, plopped on the couch, and watched it.

What a perfect day.

I slowly pushed the cart as I eyed a few pineapples; I finally caved and threw one in the cart, not bothering for a bag. My hair plipped and plopped and bobbed in the luscious ponytail I tossed it in. My tight shorts hugged me, my tight shirt hugged me. The world hugged me. I was passing the grapes when a tall [and may I say handsome] man shrugged up to me, hands out of his pockets.

"Would you or would you not recommend the pineapples? I saw you had some sleepin' in there, and since no-one else did, I thought I'd ask." His green eyes shone gallantly, and placidly, against my squinted hazels. I was still trying to figure him out: he looked my age, almost younger, and his dark ear-length curly hair looked clean and silky. Safe.

"I think they're rather yummy, but if you're going for real sweet taste, I wouldn't say get 'em." I offered a smile. "They're a bit chalky. Analise, by the way...,"

The man/boy laughed. "I'm... I, well..."

"You are...?" I slumped delectably.

"I don't have a name. I don't need one, I guess."

It couldn't register. My name was me: the epitome of all good and beautifulness was Analise. I guess my mouth was wide open, because he brought a smooth finger and bam, chin up.

"You okay, darlin'?" He almost talked with an accent, but he certainly didn't look it--especially with the tanned skin and succulent clothes to match.

And indeed... what a unique girl she was.

Now this isn't your typical love story. There's always something different about a love story, but they aren't that unique. Popular girl falls for geeky guy? Seen it. They fly away happily ever after? Seen that too. But this is so normal and common, that you hardly see it anywhere....

It was Saturday evening when I knocked on her door. She was a beautiful girl, possibly the smartest that I knew, but she was so shy; so quiet. I was almost scared myself to come, just to see how she would except me. But then I remembered my placing.

I was quarterback of the football team, and she wasn't even a cheerleader. Now in high school laws, that's pretty pitiful. But did I care? 'Course not! She was the prettiest girl I'd ever seen...

Slowly the door opened and I worked quickly to fix my posture. I stood up straight after I fixed the tuft of hair on my head and adjusted my clothing. I had to look proper if I ever expected her to say yes.

Suddenly, her face appeared and I couldn't believe my eyes. She looked better than I'd ever seen her. I had no idea what was different, but she was so amazing.

"Ummm... hello?" she said with a fiesty attitude I'd never noticed before. She's always seemed so sweet. This just made me like her more. She's got the looks, the sweetness, the attitude, the ...

The door was beginning to close and it caught me mid-thought. "Wait!" I shouted, and she turned back around and looked into my eyes.

Ohhh... her eyes. They were so stunning, not the least bit bland. They seemed to shift color from time to time, too. Oh no, I was doing it again...

"Will you... will you go out with me?"

I could have sworn that I saw her blush just before the door slammed my face; a little harder, a little faster than I would have liked. I had no idea what I did wrong. Wasn't it every girl's dream to go out with the football team's star player? I'd always thought it was.

And indeed... what a unique girl she was, I thought to myself as I dropped my bouquet of flowers I'd kept hidden behind my back in the bushes. As I walked away I kept thinking the same thing in my head, 'Was that a blush I saw?'.

As I neared home I passed my buddy's house. He was out passing a football to his younger brother.

"Yo, Bandit! Catch," he said quickly as I walked past. I had to duck abruptly to keep the football from hitting my head.

"What's up, man? Tough feelings!" he shouted. I involuntarily sped up my pace as I blinked back tears. I had to remind myself, I'm a tough boy. I'm the star football player... tough boys don't cry!

I was rejected...

That night as I lay in bed I couldn't fall asleep. I couldn't think of anything but her. Her eyes, Her hair, Her smile, Her rejection.

What was wrong with me? Why couldn't I get a descent girl? Why couldn't I...

The alarm clock went off loudly the next morning. I woke up with bags under my eyes, larger than usual. I went through a large routine to get ready. You might think washing up, eating breakfast, brushing your teeth, and getting dressed is a lot, but I have a reputation to keep.

I finished up a normal routine and then put some gel on the little tuft of hair on the top of my head. I put on a shirt with the logo of a band who's concert I attended a month ago. I threw on some shorts, I might be meeting the guys later to play football, then I remembered...

Her.

How could I face her? And I know Ace saw me yesterday. He knew something was up. How could I deal with him questioning me in front of the guys like that? I walked to school as if nothing was wrong. Did I mention?

I had a reputation to keep.

"What's up, man?" Ace said. He clapped me on the back as I walked over to my locker. Thankfully, he didn't mention anything about last night.

"Nothing much," I said dismissively.

"Really, what's up? You really are a downer lately. Something happened last night. I can feel it."

Besides being my best friend, Ace was also the running back for the school football team. It was hard to lie to him, but I had to keep silent as Spot walked over.

"Hey, did you say somethin's wrong with our quarter back?" Spot said. "Who did it? I'll punch him real good."

"No one, Spot. I'm fine, really." I said, trying to drop the topic. Then, who would walk past but her. She gave me this weird little grin. I couldn't tell if it was friendly or evil, but I couldn't help but blush.

"You got your eyes on a shy girl? Tough luck man, somebody's got a crush on the wrong crowd," Spot said, punching me in the ribs.

Sometimes he was just an aggressive pest. "I'll see you later," I said.

"Hah - Look at us. Poor little me, getting Bandit's cold shoulder." He pretended to cry into Ace's shoulder.

Gosh, I hate that guy. I walked to my classes and the day went on.

Okay, I followed her home. I couldn't help it. It's not my fault. I really love her, I want her to love me, too.

As I followed her, a bush russled.

"You," she said with a smirk on her face. "Umm... explain please?"

"I, I..." I started out weakly. Something about her just made me weak; overcome with love.

"I don't know..." I started. "I want to know why you won't go out with me..." I finished drifting off. Her eyes. Her lucious, beautiful, deep purple...

"Oh, that?" she said with a hand waving dismissively. "You're not my type. You're too prideful. You may be the quarterback, but you're nothing special," she finished.

"I'll change," I said with large, dull puppy dog eyes. "I will."

"I'd like to see that..." she said, just before she walked away.

"Wait! You dropped something!" I yelled to her. I picked up a little silver headband.

"Keep it," Luna said. "Give it back when... you've changed." She looked deep into my eyes and I was set into a trance. Wait... was she in love with me?

I picked up the headband and saw a note attached to it. 'Good luck. Meet you tomorrow. My house. Backyard. Change.,' was all it said.

On my way home I was extra careful not to carry a prideful era around me. If she was ever going to fall for me, I had to be extra careful. I didn't puff out my chest or give anyone dirty looks. I headed straight home and did my homework. I had to be humble.

The next day when I walked into school, I swerved to avoid my buddies. I went over to the math geeks and asked for some help on the homework. I offered them some of my lunch and they took it gratefully.

Hanging out with the low lifes. That ought to do the trick.

She passed me in the hallway, Luna, and she gave me an adorable smile. I smiled back and waved, waiting to see what would happen next.

That night, I walked to her house. I found her in the backyard as she said.

"Thanks for coming. You're putting up a good effort," she said. She looked into my eyes again which sent me spinning with joy.

"Uhuh." It was a subtle reply, but all I could manage at the moment.

She leaned in and kissed me warmly. "I liked you how you were, Bandit. But I wanted to see if you would change... for me," she said, a tear rolling down her cheek.

I went back to the bush where I had hidden the bouquet of flowers, days before. They were shriveled and partially buried, but I picked them up and ran back to her. I fixed the tuft of hair on my head.

I stood in front of her, face warm and staring deep into her eyes. I held out the flowers.

"Will you go out with me?" I said.

Her only reply was a small kiss on the cheek.

This isn't your typical love story, it's so common that you never see it anywhere...

I've put a lot of thought and work into this story, and its going to be long.
Its realistic, which I know isn't to everybodies tastes, but its perfect for mine which is why I love writing it. ^^
