Domino's black and white fur spiked as he paced around his nest. Sunlight was streaming through the clear-stone windows, and he knew that Spice would be coming to fetch him soon. He was going to be taking his assessment today, to prove he was ready to become a full builder. Flicking his jet black tail, the tom glanced up at the window again, and unsheathed his claws nervously. Re-sheathing his claws, Domino continued to pace until the long-furred brown form of Spice appeared in the door to the hall. "You ready Domino?" taking a quick breath, the bicolor tom nodded.

Letting Spice lead him out of the tower, Domino watched as cats raced up and down it. Sidon and Mikau were carting supplies upwards, Cream and the new hunter Angel (pronounced An-hill) were carrying prey, dispersing it through the levels as was their duty as hunters, and Mottle and Seed were leading the other two apprentices down a few steps ahead of Domino and Spice. Pricking his ears, Domino overheard that Poppy was going to be working on her endurance again, and Snowball was going to be learning how to best use stealth to her advantage while hunting.

Different skills than Domino had learned, but then again he was neither training to be a guard, nor a full time hunter. He was a Builder, with the second rank of Hunter, or...at least he would be if he passed.

If he passed...Domino forced his fur to lay flat as he shuddered. What if he failed? Pumpkin wasn't likely to chase him out, he'd noticed she had a bit of an anxiety problem, bigger than his, but what IF he failed? Would he have to retrain? For how long?

Forcing himself to take deep breathes, Domino shoved those thought to the corner of his mind. He would fail if he kept thinking about it. Right now he had to focus on completing his task.

It felt amazing to be back out of the tower.

Spirit carefully stretched out her forepaws, and relished in the feeling of...nothing. No pain wracking from her shoulder throughout her body, no twinges of complaint from her muscles. Glitter had cleared her for duty, and instantly Spirit had signed herself up for hunting patrol, along with Wicker and their newest hunter. Angel spoke with an odd accent, but he was friendly and got along great with the other hunters, so Spirit supposed it wasn't a big deal. After all, she still spoke with the accent of her homeland.

Ahh...she missed her home. The others the same size as her, it was a treasured feeling that she missed for sure. But the Walkers had become her second home. They were as much family to her as the tribe she'd been born into.

Domino padded through the territory anxiety rising with every minute that passed without him finding any prey. He tried his best to squash the thoughts down but they persisted. Suddenly a familiar scent wafted out from behind a dumpster, it was a rodent! Dropping into a hunters crouch just like spice taught him the black and white tom crept forward ears twitching as the rodent rustled around in the trash looking for scraps of food. Domino slowly began counting down in his mind as he readied himself to pounce. one, two... three!

[domino passed his assessment catching 1 rat. the rat refused to go down without a fight and domino got bit. he will need an infection herb to lessen the chances of it getting infected.

Snowball's white-tipped tail fluffed out as she listened to Seed explain what she would be doing. Thankfully her own task didn't seem too daunting, but Poppy...
Snowball glanced sideways at her sister, her near twin except for the fact that she didn't have any white on her tabby fur. Poppy's task was to find a way past Jackal and into the tower. Jackal was standing nearby, his single eye looking over them as a smile rested on his face. The scars over where his left eye should have been had never been more daunting, in Snowball's opinion, but the fact that Seed, probably one of the least threatening cats in the clan, was standing next to him, it wasn't too bad.

"How long do we have?"

Poppy may have looked calm, but her voice was trembling. Snowball laid her tail on her sister's back, and nodded as Poppy shot her a grateful smile. Seed tilted his head, glancing at Mottle and Jackal "Until sunset." he said, turning back to the apprentices as the guards nodded. Snowball turned her head out at the streets of the city. The sun was just starting to rise over the town.

time to get started.

Aiden's ginger-striped tail flicked from side to side as he watched Angel pad into the tower after the rest of the hunting patrol. The accented tom didn't have any prey in his mouth, and Spirit and Sunset both were busy talking to Pumpkin, who was about to set out on a marking patrol. This was the best chance to talk to the other, if it wasn't so hard.

Then Angel turned towards him, and Aiden realized he'd been staring. He blinked, and took a step back, then took a deep breath. Padding closer to Angel, Aiden said "H-hey, can I talk to you?" his ear was twitching now. When he was nervous his ticks got faster, and more frequent. Angel tilted his head, and glanced up at the patrol "I believe cream and seed can handle the prey, why? Is there something wrong?" Aiden shook his head "No, I just wanted to talk to you." He turned his head to glance at Sunset who was settling down on the structure.

Angel seemed to guess what Aiden was thinking and purred "Why don't we head into the Underneath?" Aiden nodded, and his ear stilled as he climbed down the stairway. Now that it was just him and Angel, it would be easier. Sitting in the dark, dirt-floored massive room, Aiden found it easier to focus.

"So, what did you want to talk about?" Angel's accented voice asked as the hunter looked over the "mates!" Aiden blurted. Angel frowned at him "Sorry?" Aiden ducked his head and lapped at his chest a few times "What I mean to say is...would you like to...be mates...with me?"

Angel smiled "I would like that very much I think." he said, taking a step closer to Aiden and sitting next to him.

“got it!” but it sounds more like, “go’e!”. he gallops back to foewatcher and battleseeker, a tuna in his mouth.
skyripper realizes they were chatting, and not hunting. he prevents the anger from showing in his eyes. he can not afford a fight flaring now, not when he’s about to prove himself!
“move on.”
again they follow him, still aimlessly and focused on talking. they lag behind. Who is stupid enough to say bad things about someone who’s right in front of you? not them, anyway.
skyripper sees an iberian hare and immediately starts stalking… one second he’s on it, and next he hears the crunch of its neck as he bites down hard.
“skyripper is always so sure of himself!” foewatcher says, a little too loudly. the tabby whirls around, his dark-amber gaze searching. he catches them behind a tree and immediately crouches down. he hides behind the tree and hears them talking of him— how young he is, how stupid they think he is, how he’s desperate to prove himself. How battleseeker should take credit for his catch.
an extra pump of adrenaline energized his body.
he jumps out on them. “what the heck is going on here?”
they barely have time to respond when they hear rustling.
they all whirl around, in time to see a cat leaning over skyripper’s catch.
the three cats surround the trespasser, who is arching his back defensively.
“what do you think you’re doing?” skyripper demands.
the cat does not answer.
what does skyripper decide to say? How does he react?

slowly the black cat trudges up the hillside, his sleek pelt shining in the riverside sunlight. he’s so high now; on top of the world, almost. yesterday he’d smelled some herbs here. coltsfoot. with his eyes closed, he turns around.
“coltsfoot can be very useful for—” he stops mid sentence. right, he doesn’t even have an apprentice yet! he opens his eyes and returns to reality. this was reality and though not necessarily as perfect as he imagined, still good. he heads towards a patch of coltsfoot, his tail skimming over every leaf. but that was okay; noise doesn’t upset herbs.

Thistle smiled as she entered the familiar territory of the walkers. It had seemed like ages since she left her home on the starquest. It had been ages, 6 moons, and Thistle noticed how the passing of time affected her body. No longer was she was scrawny little molly that she was at the start of her journey, now she was bigger, her muscles stronger. Her body wasn't the only thing that seemed to have changed, her soul felt different as well.
Thistle quickened her pace when she passed the landmark that signaled she was only a street away from the tower. A happy noise bubbled out of her mouth when she rounded the corner and saw the tower for the first time since she left. She couldn't wait to tell everyone about her journey! Thistle burst through the entrance of the tower startling the cats on guard duty, "I'm hoooome!"

[thistle has returned from the starquest!]
[thistle gained a new ability - when recruiting she is more likely to attract apprentices]

[glitter found 1 chervil 2 burdock root and 3 poppy seeds while herb hunting]
[glitter uses 1 burdock root on domino's wound and heals him]

[poppy was able to get past jackal, passing her assessment!]

Sparrowheart sat idly chewing at the marrow of the duck's bones. She had long since devoured everything she could of the small duck and was now just chewing on the bones out of boredom. Branchstar had come over and interrupted Quailstripe and her to take the former away so they could search for the kits' mother. But that was hours ago and they still hadn't returned. Sparrowheart took that as a bad sign, she knew the two toms would scour all over the territory until they either found what they were looking for or until they were incapable of doing so due to the lack of light.
With the sun setting in an hour Sparrowheart was expecting them to return any minute with grim looks on their faces. What she wasn't expecting was a furious torbie to tear into the nursery with a snarl, zeroing in on where she was sitting. Sparrowheart quickly jumped to her feet and took a protective stance in front of the nest where Clamkit and Conchkit were sleeping. "Who are you!?" She snarled back. Sparrowheart didn't know who this cat was or how they managed to break into Tideclan's camp but she knew that whatever happens she would lay down her life for the two kits behind her, whether they were hers or not.
"Get away from my kits!" the torbie hissed preparing to lunge for Sparrowheart's throat. Sparrowheart didn't have a chance to register what the molly had just said before Clamkit, who had been woken up by the commotion along with his brother, boldly climbed out of the nest and ran towards the intruder with a happy exclamation of, "Mommy!" Sparrowheart made a weak attempt to grab the grey kit but the torbie was already pulling him into her chest fur with a purr. She watched helplessly in confusing as Conchkit joined his brother, hovering just outside of the embrace.
An unamused Branchstar carefully stepped inside the nursery glancing briefly at Sparrowheart before his attention rested on the torbie. "Ah, there you are Shelly. I figured you had run off for the nursery." He said, his tone pinched. The torbie, Shelly as Branchstar called her, turned towards the tom tucking the kits behind her, her stance clear. She didn't trust any of them. "I wasn't about to wait for you to give me the grand tour. she snapped, "I scented my kits and I had to make sure they weren't harmed!" Branchstar sighed in exasperation as if they'd been over the same subject already, "I told you, Sparrowheart here has been looking after them ever since they were brought into our care." Sparrowheart bristled as Shelly sent a glare towards her at the mention of her name. Clearly she didn't like that another female had been watching over her kits, but made no further issue on the matter.
"We have a place set up here for you in nursery so you can stay with your kits for the time being." Branchstar gestured to the large nest that Clamkit and Conchkit had previously been sleeping in. Shelly growled backing up towards the entrance the kits giving small noises of protest as their mother bumped into them, "No, we're leaving. I don't trust any of you with my kits, especially her!"
Branchstar calmly shook his head at the irrational molly. "Think Shelly." he reprimanded, "Your kits are young, and you're on your own out there. Do you honestly think you can protect them from another fox attack? Do you think you can provide for them better than a whole clan of cats?" Branchstar stared into Shelly's yellow eyes with his own, "I'm not saying you have to stay with us as part of the clan. But it's your best option to at least stay until your kits are old enough to care for themselves."
The torbie squeezed her eyes shut, a single tear escaping. "I-I'll stay. I don't want to loose them like I did her."

Once again Sparrowheart found herself sitting in the nursery. She didn't need to be here, Branchstar had cleared her to return to her old nest. At night she did return to the warriors den, but during the day she couldn't help but drift towards the nursery. At first it was only to "check in" on the small family to make sure Shellface hadn't run off, but that only worked for some time before the torbie snapped angrily at her for the near constant invasion of privacy. Then it was her coming in with fresh-kill and making sure the moss in the nest didn't need to be replaced. That lasted longer with Shellface being greatful for the help until it got annoying when Sparrowheart would ask about the freshness of moss every time she came into the nursery, which was several times a day. Shellface called the tabby molly out for it and invited her to just come and visit with no "fox-dung excuses". Sparrowheart enjoyed the visits and despite their rocky start she felt that Shellface was becoming a close friend, something she didn't have alot of in Oakclan.
There was a small disturbance by the entrance and Sparrowheart looked over to see Quailstripe come in with two fish dangling by their tails. Conchkit perked up at the sight of his favourite food having given up on nursing while his brother still clung to their mother's milk. Quailstripe carefully set the larger of the two fish down in front of Shellface, the message clear, we can support you and your kits. Turning to the other female in the room he tossed the remaining fish at her paws with a nod and moved to leave. "Wait," Sparrowheart called out to him, "Would you mind going for a walk with me and sharing this?" She gestured at the fish. The tom hesitated with a nervous look on his face before he turned around and flicked his tail for her to follow.
Sparrowheart scrambled to feet and grabbed the fish before following the tom's black tipped tail as he ducked out of the nursery and continued his way out of the caves. The walk was a silent one due to the fish clasped between her teeth and Quailstripe's usual quiet demeanor. Sparrowheart followed Quailstripe with interest as he led her further away from camp and towards the beaches before stopping a ways away from the ocean where the tidepools would usually be during low tide.
The silence continued as the two dug into the fish. "You're unusually quiet," Sparrowheart observed, breaking the silence. Quailstripe merely grunted in response taking another bite. "So, when are you going to ask me?" She said abruptly causing the tabby to choke. "W-what!? he gasped, looking more nervous then ever. "Oh you know what I'm talking about." she shifted closer, "Don't act as if I haven't seen what you've done for the past two moons. I know what you're doing, and I know you've been thinking about it lately." Quailstripe gulped and backed away slightly, "Y-you do?" Sparrowheart nodded. "I do. So tell me, what are you waiting for?"

Thistle purred as she padded down through the tower. She had missed this, being with the Walkers. On the Star Quest it had just been her, until she'd found the glowing stones, and met with the ancestors, but then it had just been a bunch of dead cats, which was kind of creepy to think about.

When she'd returned, the tower had been guarded by two cats Thistle didn't know, which had been pretty awkward after she'd burst in and shouted "I'm Hooooome!" but she'd quickly explained who she was, and by the time she was done with that Seed was coming back to camp with Snowball, who was soooooo grown up, and vouched for her.

And now she was home!!

Oh that was the best part of the whole journey. Yes it had been amazing to get out of the Tower Walker's territory, but there just was nothing like being home. The Walkers had expanded since she'd left, and she'd spent almost two whole days just walking up and down the Tower trying to meet everyone. There was Domino, who'd completed his training while she was gone and was now a Builder and Hunter like herself, Glitter, the healer, Jackal, the Head Guard who was missing his left eye, Angel and Aiden, a hunter and guard who were new mates.

Five new cats in six moons, not to mention it looked like Aiden and Angel were looking for a surrogate so that they could have their own children, which would mean even more kits in the future. Plus Pumpkin had said something last night about asking for a head hunter, that way her council would be complete, so that was at least one more cat.

The Walkers were growing so well, they had definitely grown in the moons since Pumpkin had first founded it. Thistle remembered that day well, the first night she'd slept in the tower had been frightening, but now there was no place she;d rather be.

"It's nice to see you two so happy," Glitter purred as she walked with Aiden and Angel. They'd come to her to ask the best way to discuss surrogates with the she-cats of her ranks. "And so excited. I for one can't wait to see your kits, but before you just go up to she-cats and start asking them, you need to think about tact. Now, lets go over the clan. Pumpkin's a very anxious cats, if she has kits, she's going to want to watch over them day and night, even after they grow, and if you're only looking for a surrogate, then she's not the best cat for the job." Angel opened his mouth to protest, but Glitter cut him off "I know, you're looking not just for a surrogate but a cat to help with the mothering as neither of you will have the totally right instincts for that, but still, with Pumpkins anxiety any kits she has are going to have to be with a life mate."

Aiden nodded, his ear twitching as he said "That makes sense."

Glitter nodded "And I recommend against Spirit, seeing as I doubt either of you want massive kits for your first litter. Maybe later down the road, if your first surrogate finds her own mate, or passes away, but for the first time, both for you and her, you're going to want kits you know how to deal with. She knows how to handle large kits, but then they'll imprint a lot more on her. You're used to smaller kits, but then they'll have a harder time listening to you if they're the same size as you before they're apprentices."

Angel nodded "I agree," Glitter smiled "Good. So let's keep going. I'm the next she-cat in the rank line up, but I'm the healer, and forbidden to have kits," she purred "So no matter how much I'd love to do it, I'm out. After the healer is the heads. Of them only Empress is a she-cat, at this time anyways, Pumpkin's asking for a Head Hunter tonight so that might change. But right now we have Empress so let's discuss her. She'd make a fine surrogate, but she's very busy with her duties, and I know you'd both feel guilty if you pulled her from the builders." Aiden and Angel glanced at each other and nodded in unison.

Glitter nodded herself "Right, so that's the Council out of the way. Now let's keep working down the tower. The next floor houses the builders and hunters, so that's Wicker, Cream, and Thistle." Angel hummed "Cream has Snowball and Poppy which means she has a mate, so she's not likely to be inclined to surrogate. Thistle just got back from her journey and likely wants to spend some time settling down. Which leaves Wicker as your first option to ask, and Thistle in a few more moons, but I've seen Domino eyeing her so you might want to wait and see what happens there."

Aiden nodded "Wicker, got it."

Angel tilted his head "In the guards there's only Mottle, correct?" Aiden nodded "She's the only she-cat in the full time guard." Glitter nodded "And I can't think of any reason to not ask her, so you've got Wicker and Mottle available now, and you can wait and see what the patrols bring."

Aiden and Angel looked at each other, before Angel said "I think we'll wait, but...thank you Glitter." The healer nodded "Of course. I'll see you in a few weeks if you'd like to go over it again," Aiden nodded "That'd be great, thanks."
