in the heart of a forest filled with towering trees, a bedding of pine needles underp
aw, a strange formation pokes out of the vegetation. this formation of rock looks…
artificial. could it be man made? no, it couldn’t be, not in the middle of the forest!
well, my friends, you are wrong; this formation is man made. many many moons ag
o, this serene forest was invaded by the humans, and they dug deep into the earth,
following tunnels that go deep beneath the ground. fortunately, the mine did not la
st long, and only a few years or so later they had been shut-down and relocated. th
e tunnels they dug and the formations they built were left untouched, and soon tak
en over by nature once more.

the wells are ravines left by the miners that have now created a secretive hideout for the kennel to roost during t
he night. the glyfs are the various steep hills that surround their main residence, the wells. these formations crea
te a natural barrier around them from predators or rogues, but it also proves to be one of the main reasons why t
he ravines will flood with water during the rainiest seasons, as the rain carries down their slopes and rushes into t
he valley. the grove is a small valley adjacent to the wells, just over a pair of glyfs. this valley, rich in prey, is also
a prominent source of herbs for the priestess and her attendants to gather. the old man’s farm is a single human s
ettlement a good distance from the kennel. at this farm, countless plump sheep roam throughout fenced pastures
,posing as perfect prey. the rushing is a river access point that is easy to reach but dangerous to stay at for too lo
ng. right next to this area is a human town that is much more populated and busy with threats that could potenti
ally harm the kennel if they stay in the area for too long. it is, however, a great place for fishing. the human villa
ge is a place no dog goes to nor talks much of. they have simply learned to avoid it at any and all costs...

THEIR GOD
the greaven empire follows and serves under a single god named mikhail. it is believed that he has the capability t
o control or contort every single aspect of their lives, thus causing a difference in their ways compared to others.
specifically their fear of failure. if they fail, they fear death as the consequence, for it has been proven that if a
dog fails mikhail, he will take their life as a consequence for their wrongdoings. certain things that they do differ
ent from others may mean failure to these dogs when it does not mean failure to others. in order to keep their g
od pleased and at peace, every dog gathers each day to worship him and pay their respects. there is a certain r
outine carried out by the priestess each day that is significant to how they practice. for one, they always meet in
a specific room or area that has been blessed by the priestess. each meeting is the same, but sometimes an extra
event is included. this could be a ceremony of the sleyric, a highly-symbolic practice in which every dog that ente
rs or joins the empire is branded using a fire and a burning stick. this is not only to mark their status, but it is al
so to permanently brand them as one with mikhail and empire, for wherever they go in life, they will always be k
nown as someone who was a part of the infamous greaven empire.


MARRIAGE CEREMONIES
to keep their society growing at a steady pace, the kennel assigns mates to those that are at or over the age of t
wenty-five moons. this system of assigned marriages has never been complained about, and so it remains. after
being paired, the new couple is housed together, sharing a den, and are expected to produce whelps to supply t
he kennel with a new generation of soldiers to keep the empire thriving.


SACRIFICES
if mikhail feels the kennel is beginning to lose its faith in him, he can request that they perform a night of sacrif
ice to appease him. just as in capides, a fire is kindled in the pit and volunteers leap into the flames or someone
is forced to jump. however, unlike capides, these celebrations are less joyful and more solemn as they pay their
respects to mikhail and hope for forgiveness.

THE SPRING CELEBRATION
the first full-moon of spring, a special ceremony to celebrate the birth of their civilization is begun. it goes on fo
r an entire month, and in the process every dog, besides the brood (pups), fasts in respect of mikhail. also during
this time, one dog is thrown into the fire as a sacrifice. why is a dog thrown into the fire? this is because during t
heir creation, many dogs lost their lives to various causes, such as sickness, infection, and rogue attacks. by one
dog sacrificing themselves or another, they are believed to be doing a good deed to mikhail and everyone else’s s
urvival. this celebration is called capides, meaning "a new beginning". (story of their creation is listed here)

the empire frequently gathers and trades with their neighboring kennel, the crystalline militia. both trade for the
gems that they collect in the mines, while also offering their own unique craft that they specialize in.while the E
mpire gathers pelts, gems, and wood, they trade with the Militia for their finely-crafted jewelry and wares. they
have a strong alliance that has kept them strong since their beginning, and there isn’t a sign that in the future th
ey will be changing that status anytime soon.
