"Tall, multiple levels, good for retreating up should a floor be compromised." The three cats guarding the main floor bristled at the sudden noise, watching as a large shadow of a creature fell in front of the entrance in the dying sun. Suddenly a large burly cat came out and stood where the shadow had previously laid. Sunset let out a loud growl but the cat seemed not to notice and continue to mutter to themselves observing the doorway. "Too open, hard to close off, easy for a large force to barge in-" the cat looked up and their eyes locked onto the three guards who blocked off the cats access into the tower. "-but well guarded." they finished with a smile their gaze lingering on Spirit, "Take me to your leader! We have much to discuses if we are to face a shared adversary." The three cats shared looks and Sunset made a move towards the strange cat but Spirit held out a paw to stop the tom. She gave the new cat a small smile and stepped off to the side allowing them access into the tower.

Under the cover of darkness the cats were able to track down and locate the dog, setting up an ambush in a nearby alleyway. The dog had been tearing through their territory ripping up trash bags and scrounging for any bit of food it could find. In order to get the canine into the alleyway for the ambush they needed to lure it there with bait. Mikau was that bait.
The orange and white tom panted with exertion as he raced through the streets. He could feel the hot breath of the beast on his tail threatening to reach out and tear it off. Mikau hadn't counted on the dog being so agile and tried his best to keep his speed faster than that of the dogs as he whipped around the corner and into the alley. The sharp turn caused him to trip falling hard and twisting his paw at an awkward angle as he rolled away from the entrance to the alley just as the dog rushed through.
"Now!" he shouted and all at once the walkers materialized out of the shadows where they had laid in wait and began their assault of the dog. The beast yelped in surprise as claws and teeth began to dig into it's pelt from all different directions. It snarled and whipped his head around snapping it's teeth at the cats within it's reach but they quickly darted out of the way. Mikau watched in satisfaction as the plan their one-eyed head of guards came up with went off without a hitch, the walkers moving with mesmerizing fluidity darting in and out of the dogs reach in a confusing pattern.
Growing frustrated at the cats relentless assault the dog leaped forward going deeper into the alley and turned to face the cats a deep growl bubbling out of it's salivating maw. Mottle fearlessly stepped out directly in front of the dog signaling to the others the next phase of the plan. She let out a calming deep breath and remembered what she practiced earlier with Spirit. Looking up she let her glowing yellow eyes meet the swirling darkness that was the dog's gaze and readied herself for the attack. Just like she expected the dog lunged forward maw opened wide as it came straight for Mottle, what she wasn't expected was the speed at which the dog came at her. Time seemed to slow down and Mottle could feel the blood rushing in her ears, her eyes widening in shock when she came to the realization that she wouldn't be able to get away in time.
"No!" A voice pierced Mottle's ears and time rushed forward once more. A blur of grey flew in front of her and Mottle watched in utter horror as her leader's body caught the deadly blow instead of her. Several seconds of stunned silence was followed by an roaring bellow that had Motle quaking as the walkers rushed past her towards the canine with Spirit leading the charge.

Barkfern remembered when he had joined the clan. He had been miserable, but Whitecloud and her support had helped him get through it. Shortly after, he learned that his mother had died, but he had been joined back with his three siblings Poppy, Button and Fern. They were all given the suffix -kit.
Then the four became apprentices. The moons had been happy and short, and all three of them lived blissfully in the clan, with Whitecloud looking after them lovingly after she had helped Barkpaw.

Then it had happened. The tom shuddered to think about it. His dear sister Fernpaw had been torn away from him, leaving all of them at a loss. The pain of it had almost made his heart stop beating, and four moons hadn't worn that pain away. It had lessened over time, but he vowed he would never forget her.

There were highs and lows, like becoming a warrior, but even so, he Poppyfang and Buttonstream still felt that loss. It was like losing one of his legs, even worse then his grief for Flower, the gentle loner who had been his mother who had died many moons ago.

Poppyfang shifted out of the nest next to him, poking him with her tail to rouse him out of his thoughts. Buttonstream, who had recently made his nest on the other side of Barkfern, opened his eyes and sat up, stretching. They were in the warriors den finally, but the happiness that he had experienced a moon ago had faded, only lessening his grief.

Barkfern knew that Poppyfang felt his pain as well, but this only fueled her determination to save the clan from the threat of the murder. Buttonstream was complicated - he seemed distant, and stressed out, but faced each day with confidence and worked hard. The youngest of the litter was probably the most affected, as he felt more sad then Poppyfang, who just seemed angry, and Buttonstream, who used his grief to fuel him and make him more determined to help the clan. He had chosen his name after the she-cat in memory of her, and it did lessen his sadness, but he knew it wasn't just a name that would fix the empty gap.

He stretched as well, and with his sister and his brother, they walked out of the warriors den. "Brrr!" Poppyfang shivered, her tufted ears twitching in the cold air. The wind nipped at Barkfern and sliced through his pelt, but he didn't mind. "It's cold out here." she meowed with a glance at her brothers, waiting for them to speak. "It is," Barkfern agreed, padding over the small prey pile. As there wasn't much food to go around cats had to share a lot more, so he picked up a sparrow. It was Buttonstream's favourite prey, but when he picked it up even so the tom only gazed at it.

Poppyfang watched as he put it on the floor in-between the three of them, her gaze hardening as she looked at Buttonstream. "Buttonstream, do you want to share?" he asked a little hesitantly. "Sure," the tom meowed with uncertainty, taking a bite. His tail fluffed up as he bit into it, and as he sat up, his siblings could see feathers in his mouth. He had missed the meat and had instead just taken a mouthful of feathers. Poppyfang lashed her tail, causing him to jump as he spat out the feathers onto the floor beside him. "Don't you care, Buttonstream?" she meowed, her voice quiet but every letter vibrating with her anger.

He looked up, his eyes gaining focus. "We usually share prey happily. I just find it infuriating how you don't seem to care anymore." she unsheathed her claws, plucking the bird of a few feathers. "I do care," he meowed, paying attention properly now.

"I have to do something about this. It has gone on for long enough!" she was on her paws now, looking around at the clan members mulling around camp. "We have to do something about Fernpaw's death. This has gone on long enough. Why do we sit in camp spreading rumours and lies when we can be out there searching for signs, or talking to our clanmates if they've seen anything?" she was addressing the clan now, looking at every member in the camp. Some shifted their paws guiltily. Barkfern sat there, straightening so that he didn't look like he wasn't doing anything."Me, Barkfern and Buttonstream will be searching for these signs, and will not rest until we find them!" she finished, before waving her tail at Barkfern and Buttonstream. They stood up. "We will be going on a patrol now." she finished, her eyes blazing and her whiskers quivering. They left the sparrow there, and with Poppyfang in front, they began to leave.

"Wait!" Pansypetal called, causing them to turn. She stood there a little nervously, with Peachdawn walking with her. "We'll come with you. If anyone comes after us, you'll have more support." the two she-cats joined them, and Barkfern knew they wouldn't cause trouble. Both of them were loyal, and were just as concerned as they rest of the clan, so all three knew they could trust them. Even Buttonstream had sparked up a bit. The three of them felt that this cat was targeting their family, so more cats to go with them was much better then just them.

"Thank you. First we can patrol to see anything out of ordinary, then we can see if anyone has had a grudge against any of us." Poppyfang announced, her eyes lighting up with hope, brightening Barkfern as well. He was ready to help his siblings and his clan, so that the mystery could finally be lifted. He was slightly tense, as he didn't know what to expect, and wondered if it was anyone in the clan (but unfortunately the signs were pointing that way), but now the courage and hope returned to his eyes also, and strength flowed through his pawsteps.

[Poppyfang, Barkfern, Buttonstream, Nightfeather, Pansypetal and Peachdawn unite in secret to agree to help the murder case]
Pansypetal, Peachdawn, Poppyfang, Barkfern and Buttonstream do a marking patrol. They feel like someone is watching them and catch a drift of CherryClan scent, but when investigating, no one is there.]
[When asking around, no one admits to being out of camp at the same time the patrol was, apart from Beeheart, Jaypaw, Skipperflame and Falconpaw. Someone must be lying, unless it was one of those cats, but the apprentices did not see their mentors leave]
[Nightfeather asks around to see if anyone would have a grudge against Poppyfang, Barkfern, Buttonstream, Fernpaw and who they are related to. He finds out that Tawny, Honeystripe, Goosesplash, Coppermask, Skipperflame and Waspthroat previously knew her or have heard of her, but he does not find out much about their attitudes towards the family. He does discover that Waspthroat is related to her, but quite distantly.]

[Honeystripe, Oakpounce,Tawny, Sandyfeather and Pearcloud go on a gathering patrol for sticks and bracken, as well as other useful items to extend their camp.]

Mosstalon watched through narrowed green eyes as Fallenstar padded out of the camp. He was apparently going to speak to Starclan, to ask for a queen, like Milkweed. Mosstalon had only been in the clan for a moon, but already she'd spotted several flaws. Firstly, once she'd agreed to join, their leader, a ridiculously trusting white and orange tomcat, had been delighted, and put her in the highest position of power below himself. Secondly, once it had been shown that he trusted her, the rest of Lunarclan had acted as though they'd known her their entire lives. Except for the Medicine Cat. Acornweb was smart. The third flaw of Lunarclan was their rules. And the fact that they expected the cats to obey them. Didn't they know? Rules were meant to be broken. The fourth flaw....Mosstalon studied the quivering grass where Fallenstar had vanished. The fourth flaw was Fallenstar. He was a weak leader, trusting strangers to serve as his second in command. But thanks to the laws, weak as they were, Mosstalon now had a simple goal. Gather support, trick one of them into killing Fallenstar, become the new leader, and better the clan.

So simple. And the first task...would be to get Acornweb on her side. If she could convince the warriors that Starclan was on her side, it would be so much easier to bend them to her will. And from what she'd gathered about him so far, he was open to changes.

But not now. Now, she had a marking patrol to take with Silvershell. Besides, Acornweb had his paws full for the time being. Fallenstar had set up a new tradition in the past moon, saying all kits would spend a moon helping the medicine cat, and the most senior warrior without an apprentice, in order to be fully sure of the path they wanted to take. And Brightkit, the tiny orange tomcat, seemed intent on being as hard to manage as a full litter of kittens all on his own.

But no matter. Mosstalon had already volunteered to go along with Acornweb the following sunrise on an herb hunting expedition. She could talk to him then.

Pumpkin's body ached. While they'd been fighting, the dog had nearly snapped its jaws around Mottle. Pumpkin had reacted without thinking, lunging forward with a howl of "NO!" The dog's bite had hit her, and there had been a rush of pain, and then black. Nothing but black.

She had opened her eyes to see spirits, the cats who had given her nine lives for leading the Tower Walkers into greatness with. Pumpkin wasn't going to lie, she'd had a brief moment of panic that the dog had taken all nine of her lives, but Squash, her brother, had assured her that she still had eight lives to live. "You just need a while to recover, your body took some heavy damage, but nothing that we can't repair, since Spirit pulled you away from the dog."

Finally, she'd been sent back, and they battle patrol had been victorious. The dog, though not killed, had been chased far out of the territory, and likely would never come back. Thank the stars no cats had died, well...except for Pumpkin, but she had more lives to use. Not that Glitter was happy about it. The former kittypet had proved to be pretty fierce, and had ordered Pumpkin to stay in the tower until she'd fully recovered.

With the arrival of Smoketuft, it was clear that the camp would not be able to hold her kits when they arrived, and since they didn't quite have enough supplies to expand the dens, Fallenstar had ordered that a new, secondary camp be found. He and Silvershell had been out almost every day, giving Mosstalon time to talk to Acornweb.

The calico medicine cat was amazing, and Mosstalon found herself falling for him, and not just because it was forbidden and she was naturally drawn to it, but because she was starting to like him. She knew the medicine cat was falling for her too. Mainly because last night he'd mentioned that he would have liked to spend more time with her.

Unfortunately Fallenstar had put all paws on deck either training or searching for supplies. Maybe next moon though.
