Big Rarity Update - read for details!

While I'm sure this has been needed for a long time & that it will make things easier in the long run, I'm honestly unhappy about this.

First, as a newer member, I was still learning about how rarity & a pet's year factor into trading. It's a lot to try to learn and remember. A couple nice members had given me what was very helpful advice but now with so many pets changing rarities that advice is practically useless. Plus with what are basically new rarity categories in play there's now more to learn and remember for someone still trying to grasp everything.

Second, when I first joined I was gifted 2 omgsr pets by a very generous member. I came on today to find that my only 2 omgsr, my best 2 pets, were suddenly downgraded to very rare. My pet collection had very little value as it was since I'm still learning and now my collection is worth even less.

When I joined I just wanted to adopt some pets that I liked the look of and to enjoy having and maybe trading them. I wanted a relaxing place to decompress from the real world and all it's busyness. I didn't realize I'd have to learn a complicated trading system which has now just gotten more complicated. This honestly makes me want to dump all of my pets in The Pound and be done with this website.

I'm a little confused - I have looked through every pet in your possession, and none of them have ever been OMG so rare at any point in time.^^ None of our OMGSRs have dropped in rarity today at all.

The rarity categories haven't actually been expanded - all rarities from omgsc up to omgsr have existed like this for years.
The only difference is that the exact threshholds at which a pet is sorted into a certain rarity have been moved a bit.
All those common and lower pets have been this common all along - the rarity system just categorized them so broadly that they ended up marked as uncommon alongside pets that are truly much more valuable than them.
A pet that dropped to very common today was never actually worth the same as a pet that stayed uncommon.

The most basic trade advice that people use: "pets of the same rarity are comparable in worth if they were released within 3 months of each other" is still useful. The rarity part is just much more accurate now.^^

While the rarity categories may not have changed much to a more experienced player to someone newer like me this is a huge change. I had no clue what pets were "low uncommon" or "high uncommon" or borderline rarity. I was still learning all of that plus what the difference between years means. I may have been mistaken about the rarity of those two pets as I was so shaken by the changes to my pets this morning. My collection still dropped in worth as many of my uncommons have dropped. While the 3 month rule is still useful for pets of the same year & rarity if I'm wanting to trade pets of different years or rarities this rule would be no help.

I don't have anything against the update per se, it actually sounds really useful.
I just have no clue what to do with my over 3000 pets in my trade groups, sorted by rarity.
There is no way in hell I'm resorting all of those, guess I'll have to resort to them not being that accurate anymore :?

I used to keep mine in 'rare', 'uncommon', 'below uncommon' groups, but I've merged them together now to make it easier for me. Only the rares have their own group, I'd recommend doing something similar if you don't want to spend ages sorting them.

I definitely understand that it seems discouraging at first to see your pets drop in rarity, I'm not trying to say that it's wrong for people to feel disappointed about that. I'm sorry if it came across as that.

But in the long run, I do believe that especially newer users will benefit from this.
Previously, I've usually been able to make good estimates on whether a pet was on the higher or the lower end on its rarity, because I've been around for the times it changed rarity, or even the release. I know what I see in trade groups a lot, and what's more difficult to find. But that kinda thing requires a lot of trading and observation, and at the end of the day it was often useless knowledge because the other person valued these pets the same thanks to their rarity.
The new update makes the rarities more accurate, so it means players, especially those who are newer, won't accidentally trade those "high uncommons" off for "low uncommons" any more just because they couldn't have guessed which was which.
No more trying to mentally keep track of how often you've seen certain pets in trade groups.

Rarity system changes inevitably upset people at first - it was the same the last time we had such an update - but in the long run it'll benefit everyone because now "uncommon" isn't this huuuuge blob of a rarity any more that everything seems to fall into.

Last year especially was kinda frustrating, because it seemed nearly every single monthly outcome turned out uncommon, and everyone was wildly confused why any pet that was released seemed to just end up with the exact same rarity.^^

Yeah, that's probably the best idea. But in order to merge them I'll have to sort them either way?
It would be immensely helpful if I could sort pets in group according to rarity instead of date.

I would suggest making the group page as large as possible using &pageSize=X(insert number at Xs) and then using Control + F to find "rare" pets. It'll only work if you use the text label of rarity as opposed to the picture, but it means you can go straight to the rare pets, tick them and then move them all at once to a separate group. Same goes for any other rarity. ^^

Omg, looks like all the warriors are now rare! Tons turned to VR too. I'm glad I got them when there was less VR and some were Uncommon.

I got no OMGSR from this as well, oof. I don't have any lists except my BMD tho, so it makes sense xD
