Big Rarity Update - read for details!

While I'm sure this has been needed for a long time & that it will make things easier in the long run, I'm honestly unhappy about this.

First, as a newer member, I was still learning about how rarity & a pet's year factor into trading. It's a lot to try to learn and remember. A couple nice members had given me what was very helpful advice but now with so many pets changing rarities that advice is practically useless. Plus with what are basically new rarity categories in play there's now more to learn and remember for someone still trying to grasp everything.

Second, when I first joined I was gifted 2 omgsr pets by a very generous member. I came on today to find that my only 2 omgsr, my best 2 pets, were suddenly downgraded to very rare. My pet collection had very little value as it was since I'm still learning and now my collection is worth even less.

When I joined I just wanted to adopt some pets that I liked the look of and to enjoy having and maybe trading them. I wanted a relaxing place to decompress from the real world and all it's busyness. I didn't realize I'd have to learn a complicated trading system which has now just gotten more complicated. This honestly makes me want to dump all of my pets in The Pound and be done with this website.

I'm a little confused - I have looked through every pet in your possession, and none of them have ever been OMG so rare at any point in time.^^ None of our OMGSRs have dropped in rarity today at all.

The rarity categories haven't actually been expanded - all rarities from omgsc up to omgsr have existed like this for years.
The only difference is that the exact threshholds at which a pet is sorted into a certain rarity have been moved a bit.
All those common and lower pets have been this common all along - the rarity system just categorized them so broadly that they ended up marked as uncommon alongside pets that are truly much more valuable than them.
A pet that dropped to very common today was never actually worth the same as a pet that stayed uncommon.

The most basic trade advice that people use: "pets of the same rarity are comparable in worth if they were released within 3 months of each other" is still useful. The rarity part is just much more accurate now.^^

Man, you wouldn’t believe the shock I had when I opened my pets this morning to find my pps malk dragon had turned omgsr-
It’s always been my favourite pet on the website, and now, to see it turn omgsr, especially immediately after gaining a second from an egg I traded for on December 18th, is a blessing.

I know this update has been very hit or miss I guess they never miss huh? amongst a lot of users, but I for one, couldn’t be happier.

This update has blessed me, with not only my two new omgsr dragons, but handfuls of new rares and very rares, including an entire 26 pet hoard that turned rare.

The rares list, and the entire trading system in general for that matter, is probably going to take a long time to recover from this, but hopefully, with the help of everyone in the community, we can get through it.

Overall, I felt this update was really needed. I’d always look at my groups full of purely uncommons and think “if there’s so many of these, why aren’t they common?” This has definitely helped to fix that problem, and solidify the rarities.

Edit: also, the first pony I ever adopted way back in 2012 just turned rare, makes it feel all that more special <3

Just had a look at all the pets that turned omgsr and of all the 2008 July rats I own the blue ice rat, the only list rat from that month that didn't turn omgsr. Just my luck :'D

this update will be very helpful, though only one of my pets changed up to rare and the rest went down, but I think its a very fair trade and i've always thought there were more OMGSC's then there were commons. I, for one, think this update is awesome. and the dec pets got rarities so im happy
