Smokeflower felt as though stress was radiating through every part of her body. The clan had suffered a hard leaf-bare filled with greencough and death. The coming new-leaf was beyond welcomed as it would allow for the her to be able to re-fill the catmint storage as it was running dangerously low due to all the sick cats she had to treat. Many of her clanmates had recovered from the deadly disease, but not all had been as lucky. The clan lost two kits and a queen to the leaf-bare sickness and it left a hard blow within the hearts of all. Smokeflower could not seem to find solace within herself for allowing the queen and kits life to slip through her paws. The tuxedo she-cat just sighed as she finished cleaning up the last of the herbs, leaving the medicine den tidier than it had been in moons. Most cats were out of the medicine den, but the sickness was still lurking. Smokeflower decided she needed some air and called out to Creekpaw to let her know where she was going, "Creekpaw! I'm going out for some air, I'm gonna try and find some catmint." At that the she-cat walked out of her den and began to make her way to the camp entrance and exit before hearing someone call her name. Confused, she turned to see Reedpaw walk over to her. Panic gripped her as she realized the apprentice reeked of sickness and looked a powerful fever had sprung on him. She didn't even let Reedpaw get a word in, she simply wrapped her tail around the apprentice and led him into the medicine den. She darted over to the depleted catmint storage and grabbed what she could before calling out to Creekpaw again, "Reedpaw has greencough, we need more catmint now then ever. I need you to go will a warrior and look for some over by the old two-leg places." It was at that moment that her sister, Fallowstreak, entered the medicine den while staring at Reedpaw sorrowful, concerned look on her face. She heard her sister ask, "Will he be alright?" Smokeflower sighed and looked back at her sadly, "For now, yes, but more catmint must be found. If you would like to help, please accompany Creekpaw out to look for catmint and I will do what I can in the meantime." Turning away, she worked with Reedpaw by giving him catmint for the greencough and feverfew to calm his raging fever. Now all she could only give the tabby apprentice regular water and food and hope that more catmint was found.

The short-haired calico she-cat stretched out as she exited the warriors den. The sniffed the air and was relieved to be hit with the new-leaf scent of regrowth and warmth. The clan had suffered an outbreak of greencough and it was still raging through the camp. She, herself, had caught it earlier in the epidemic but thanks to her medicine cat sister, she had survived. Fallowstreak decided that now would be a great time for some hunting lessons with her apprentice, Batpaw. She scanned the camp for Batpaw but only to be met with the terrifying sight of another apprentice, Reedpaw, being led into the medicine cat den by Smokeflower. Without a second thought, Fallowstreak raced after them and entered the medicine den. She stared in horror as she saw the apprentice panting, coughing, and wheezing. "Will he be alright?" she asked her sister breathlessly. her sister replied with a saddened look, "For now, yes, but more catmint must be found. If you would like to help, please accompany Creekpaw out to look for catmint and I will do what I can in the meantime." Fallowstreak gave a solemn nod, sat down and wrapped her tail around her paws. She lost herself deep in thought, waiting for Creekpaw to be ready to leave so she may accompany him. Looking up at the sky, she sent a silent pray to Starclan that Reedpaw's would be alright. She could not stand the thought of losing another clanmate.
