'There once was a beast nearly twice the size of any decent ship.

Though his size was formidable and his heart made of stone, the beast desired one thing above all: a family.

You see, the beast lived on an island his entire life, vowing to protect the same hoard of treasure that his ancestors had watched over, going back generations and generations. He was the last of his line, however, and had been for quite some time. The rest of his family? Hunted to extinction by those who would seek their treasure or, worse yet, by those who would seek the glory of their new trophies. After all, such large and fearsome beasts struck terror in the hearts of those that saw them.

And those that slay the beasts? Well, they were revelled as heroes - such brave, strong men were they, to slay such a beast!

But it left the poor beast all alone.

All alone on top of a pile of treasure, fending off those who would come to take away his family's legacy - the only part of them that still remained, the only thing the beast had left of them. And he would not allow that. The vile creatures had already taken them, and that was bad enough - they would not get his treasures as well. His dying breath would be spent protecting his treasure, his family's treasure.

It was a tiresome and lonely business, protecting the treasure, and the beast secretly longed to leave. But he did not. For it was not just his treasure - it had been his family's treasure before it had been his. It was all he had of them, and he would not let it go. No matter how lonesome he was. And so his days were spent fending off those seeking his treasure, often requiring little effort.

With each day that passed, however, he grew more and more lonely.

More and more desperate for someone who would understand him, love him.

    More and more desperate...

    For a family.'

The whole tavern sat, silent, staring back at Pluto. It was quite a tale - one that he'd heard ever since he was a child - and those in the tavern seemed just as transfixed by it as he had been as a child. To his family, a bunch of looting, treasure-hoarding viking-type people, the beast's treasure had always been their holy grail.

Pluto grinned back at the tavern, happy to have transported them into his world of storytelling for a moment, and he opened his mouth to thank them for listening, but was interrupted abruptly.

"Do you really believe all that gobshite?" a voice came from the crowd.

Benji, sitting near the man, let out a low growl before shouting back, "It's a tale, idiot - it doesn't have anything to do with whether he believes it or not!" He was prone to bouts of anger, particularly when his family was insulted - and Pluto was just as much his family as Marvel and Gaelin.

The man he was speaking to was less than thrilled about being called an idiot and lept from his seat. He launched himself at Benji, who let out a gasp of surprise as he went crashing to the ground and had all of the air knocked from his lungs.
