we tell our children to look up at the sky; make a wish on glinting dots in the sky. but why do we put our faith in false light pulling tricks on sleepy eyes? love, trust, hope - we push and we push. but they're dead, they're dying - already gone by the time they're captured beneath a closing eye. blink and they're gone - blink and we're returned to the dust that was tirelessly spent to build the ground in which we lay. wishing - constantly needing, from a star's caress that died billions of years ago. we, with tilted head and trustful fingers reach to a sky filled with nothing but the remnants of something long ago lost.
but go ahead, wish you may wish you might, send your hopes and dreams to all those dying stars tonight.
