In a world of gods and mortals, demigods and creatures of night were not uncommon, rather, just another part of day-to day life. There were monstrosities that were kinder than anyone deserved, and beautiful beings who would murder innocents with less than a blink.

In this world, there were also the Experiments.

Beings created by the great powers above, twists in the fabric of reality and nature, abominations or ethereal lives that would never truly belong.

Amber was one of these Experiments.

A mix of a long-dead predator and one of the beings that filled the land to the brim. Half Velociraptor, one of the most intelligent dinosaurs and therefore dangerous to others. Everyone veered away from Amber when they spotted her claws, her multicolored eyes, her lack of fur replaced by rigid spikes of feathers and scales.

So, Amber found the one way she would be welcome.

An assassin for hire.

It wasn't the best job, far from it. It was disgusting, and went against all her morals.

It was good money though, so she couldn't complain. It wasn't as if she had anywhere else to go to. Cities shunned her and others were revolted by her existence. Experiments were unnatural, freaks. That stigma would follow her for the rest of her life.

One day, Amber couldn't make a kill.

It was a child of some rich Kalon who had insulted the wrong family, and that family wanted them to pay with the life of their child. The family said the details would be given once the assignment was accepted; Amber wishes she never did.

So, she ran. She ran from the child, ran from the family, ran from the city she had made a name for herself in. The family was enraged, of course; it didn't take long before there were soldiers on her tail, excited for a reason to get rid of an Experiment. Was it all worth it? Just for one child to be safe for a short length of time? Amber knew the answer was yes, yet couldn't help but wonder what would've happened if she had gone through with the assassination. Safety, a hefty amount of gold, and the blood of an innocent child on her claws? No, the life of ducking into alleys and sleeping with one eye open was much better, despite what others would think.

Amber often contemplated it, and the results if the child were killed under her claws. The little one has a future, a future she could never have. So she gets up and continues running.
