xxxxxa purr rumbled deep in shellstep's chest at her tired reply. shellstep understood; he never liked being woken up early when he was an apprentice. now he would have to deal what his old mentor had to deal with. "being a warrior means having set tasks, sweetpaw. one of them may require you to get up early for patrols to make sure the clan is safe and protected from outsiders and threats. it's better to get used to them at your age; my mentor didn't, so i never learned until it was my first morning patrol. nearly fell asleep walking!" shellstep flicked his tail as he continued softly, "tell you what. you do good on dawn patrols, catch a bit of prey for the fresh-kill pile, and i'll try and make sure that you catch as much sleep as you want. deal?"
xxxxxwith a sweet smile at her and beckoning her to follow him, shellstep left the apprentice's den, scanning the camp briefly. "crimsonsand said he was going to assign patrols so we'll be tagging along with some other cats. it'll give you good experience. after the patrol is done, we can do a little bit of training and hunting. sound good?" he hummed only when sweetpaw followed him outside.

"now, there are two ways. one; sit out of the water at the shallow end and dip your paw in and feel for movement. i dont prefer this way, since the fish can sense you, and they can easily swim away. the second method, which i use, is to get into the water and wait. you just wait. a fish will swim around you, then you quickly jab it in the side and take it out of the water. you must toss it onto the surface, then kill it." she meowed, stopping for sprucepaw to take in the information. "ready ??"

xxcrimsonsand walked as shellstep walked off and he decided to come up with who he would take on his first patrol. he would obviously take shellstep and his apprentice, sweetpaw, but he decided he would also take scorchpelt and blizzardpuddle. so now that he knew who he would take, he spoke to the clan. "i will be taking shellstep, sweetpaw, scorchpelt and blizzardpuddle on the first dawn patrol," he announced. "please be ready to patrol after you eat!"

xxhoneyheart followed her mate over to the fresh-kill pile, her heavily pregnant belly weighing her down as she walked behind him. she said down by him and looked at the plump salmon that he had split in half. she purred and gave him a gentle lick on the cheek. "of course, love," she said to him. she would have argued with eating the clear piece but she was eating for her kits now. she started to eat as she heard crimsonsand call for her mate to come on patrol after he was done eating.
