When Gilroy's eyes opened, the dark of the night had shaded the upstairs of the warehouse. He couldn't see the night sky due to the boarded up windows, but he could hear the consistent song of crickets, which replaced the chirps of songbirds. Around him, some of his packmates were still sleeping, but Gilroy was feeling too antsy to continue to sit about. His father had always told him that being awake before most of the pack was important for the alpha's image. As quietly as he could, Gilroy slid out of his mattress and threw on his non-sleeping clothes, doing a few stretches. He tip-toed across the sleep rooming, weaving by the other pack members' mattress as he made his way to the stairwell. He pushed open the heavy metal doorway that led to the stairs and was careful to close it quietly behind him.
He made his way down the stairs and crossed the bottom floor of the warehouse, toward the makeshift kitchen the police officers had helped set up. A stove, an oven, a microwave, a sink, and a fridge, with a few cabinets that contained pots, pans, utensils, as well as non-refrigerated foods. It was the bare minimum, but it was enough. From the fridge, Gilroy pulled out a package of bacon, placing a few slabs on a pan, and began cooking.

Elisa heard footsteps of the pack's alpha, Gilroy, as he attempted to creep across the room. She appreciated the gesture, but she had always been such a light sleeper, it was hard to get past her without waking her up. It wasn't ideal, but she had grown used to it by now. She did, however, take her time getting out of bed. She sat up in her mattress for a time to feel awake enough to move, then very slowly sliding off her mattress. She didn't rush putting on her working clothes, as she didn't feel much pressure to do so. With light footsteps, she went downstairs to wait for the rest of the pack to wake up.
She considered going to the kitchen straight away, but when she ate too early, she tended to have an upset stomach for the rest of the night. Instead, she wandered off toward the closest thing that could be called a "living room." An old television that only played CDs, an old pool table that was missing a few balls, and three torn up couches surrounding a short coffee table. Elisa flopped down on one of the couches, which creaked under her wait, lying out on her back with her heels propped up on the arm of the chair. It was no different than lying around in her mattress, but she felt a little bit more productive on a couch than in bed.

Noor jolted awake, a layer of sweat on his forehead, panting. He usually didn't have nightmares, but for whatever reason, this time resting he did. He usually took his time getting ready for the night, but this time, he practically leaped out of his bed, quickly pulled on his clothes, and hurried down the stairs. He could smell the bacon that Gilroy was cooking in the kitchen, and saw a glimpse of Elisa lounging on a couch in the living room. He found he was feeling a little too anxious to stay inside, and with long strides, he made his way toward one of the entrances of the warehouse. Noor never liked the cold, but the way he was feeling in this moment, the feeling of winter night air and the snow might do him some good. Once he opened the door, the cold hit him hard, but he continued outside anyway. He nestled into the thick coat he had thrown on, watching as his breath fogged up in front of his face. He found someplace to lean against the outer wall of the warehouse, staring out at the horizon, where the somewhat distant city lights glowed among the foggy night.

May always made her mornings quick. A brief shower, a simple breakfast, and putting on her uniform. She stepped outside, twirling her car keys. While most humans were asleep, she was awake at night. Being apart of the police force was a 24/7 job, especially if you were the chief, but ever since the infestations, it became more and more nocturnal. More officers were on duty at night than during the day. She drove to the station, the first to arrive. Once she parked her car and exited it, with hurried steps she approached the station and unlocked the doors for the day. Walking inside, she flipped on all of the lights, taking a deep breath. She already had one cup of coffee in her apartment, but she felt like she needed more. She meandered toward the little kitchen of the station, flicking on the coffee maker and pulling a big mug from one of the cabinets overhead.
