aisling walked along the cove, delki beside her in his bear form. she found it interesting how quickly the village had managed to grow, but it was welcomed. asling turned to watch the ocean, her eyes locked on the waves and any movement. a quick golden shimmer rose up out of the water before quickly disappearing under, a cappal uisce. the girl turned to delki, “quick, grab some rope and iron,” she commanded not taking her eye off the ocean. she heard delki shift back into his human form and rummage through the pack for the materials aisling asked for. aisling quickly snatched the rope off him, creating two lassoes for the pair of them. she held the iron in her fist, and watched the ocean for any movement. “delki, take the lasso and hide behind that rock,” she instructed him, “when that cappal usice comes out throw it around it’s neck and have a good grip.” delki ran where instructed and crouched, watching the ocean as eagerly as aisling.

the waves crashed upon the shore, wind howling and the ocean getting more and more violent as the tide rolled in. patience was key to a successful capture, these things could not be rushed. eyes widened as a golden head rose up out of the water, rushing towards the shore. as the cappal uisce emerged aisling made note of it’s palomino overo coat. as it’s hooves hit the shore the lassoes were thrown, luckily both managed to loop around the cappal’s neck. as it reared and snorted and wrestled to get away delki and aisling both made their way to their respective sides of the water horse. it fought as hard as it could, threatening to take a chunk out of aisling’s arm as the girl reach out for the cappal’s neck. with the iron in her palm aisling hoped it would soothe the cappal even in the slightest, but it seemed as if this one was two violent to be calmed at the moment. delkin and aisling looked at each other as the struggled to pull the mare down as she reared.

The Xogiáagaó tribe, Xogi for short, lives in a large, dense rainforest. They mainly live up in the trees, but you should not be surprised to see some finding the damp floor a home. The members are not entirely human, that much can be told from a single look at them. Instead, they are in part different species of animals, be that mammal, bird or reptile

They live off the plants and animals that live alongside them. In terms of plants, they know of chayote, cassava, eggplants (vegies), passion fruit, cupuaçu and plantains. For meat, they may eat tropical birds (vary in size), various monkeys, capybara and acouchi.

The people are just about the best animal tamers you could possibly get. Knowing the life and feelings, the instincts and wants of animals closer than 'normal' humans, they connect to them and befriend them quite easily. Their services are hard to acquire, however, as they are rather isolated, knowing not the languages of the outside world and hateful or fearful of those who may come from different lives.

The head chief makes the final decision on any matter and all must come to them should they wish to request something. The elders and lesser chiefs aid in more major decisions and give the head chief advice. There are warriors, hunters, gatherers and scouts, all overseen by their own lesser chiefs, reported to by the elder members of these groups. Usually, each chief chooses a son of theirs to take their position in the future. Children become apprentices right at the age of 7, they become full members in their field, usually, at the age of 16. Women may become mothers from as early as 18 as the average lifespan of a member is around 50. Elders are highly, highly respected as there are very few people who make it to 60 or more. One may become an elder at the age of 55.

With the lack of modern medicine or organized religion, a shaman is not needed. All knowledge of herbs is passed down from generation to generation to help them help themselves and each other.

Note: There are virtually no seasons in a rainforest, but you're free to do whatever.

The Xogi tribe

A hoatzin dropped from the trees, lifeless with blood-splattered feathers, a man dropping down right after, landing next to it. But of course this was no normal man. His feet were reminiscent of a bird's, fitted with sharp talons. His shoulders and chest were coated with feathers. He relaxed, moving to sit down on the ground, a spear in hand when rustling from the thick plantlife coating the jungle floor put him back on edge. What appeared from the other side was a woman, with fur-covered limbs, munching on what, to him, looked like a root, carrying more in her arms.
"I found some cassava." She explained as he sat back.
"Great. That means you'll stop stealing my food." He joked, smiling as he plucked at some of the dead bird's feathers.
"Oh, yeah, I know how much you just hate me messing with your food, Mr. Bone muncher." She smiled back. "Don't worry, I only eat meat and plants."
Plema rolled his eyes, growling playfully. "I don't just eat bones, princess."

"Hey, this plant looks new."
The pair had ventured a bit far from their usual range when Kubar stopped, staring at a plant.
"Maybe it is. What of it?" Plema asked, watching her as she plucked a leaf off.
"Well, what do you reckon it does?"
"Princess, you really shouldn't nibble any random plant you find." The vulture warned, though the girl merely ignored him, eating the juicy leaf and seeming to enjoy it, at least far more than the more carnivorous man ever would. He rolled his eyes, leaning back on a tree trunk, watching curiously to see what might happen. Luckily for him, the effects kicked in quickly.
"Hey, Plema...since when do fish fly?" She asked, sounding surprised and curious, earning a laugh from the other.
"Since you nibbled on some crazy-plants." Ah, yes, hallucinogenics. Always a heap of fun.

He continued to watch Kubar's shenanigans for a good few minutes, sometimes playing along, sometimes laughing loudly at her antics. But the noise seemed to have called upon something far more dangerous. Plema happened to notice the big cat stalking towards them. It seemed they would be prey if they didn't get out of there.
"Kubar! We gotta get going." What was he yelling for, of course she wouldn't get why. In fact, she found herself moving towards the feline.
Plema groaned, pulling her back, spear held in front of them both as the leopard leapt. It dug into the beast's shoulder. Great. That should slow it down. And so he went, running as fast as he could while dragging along Kubar. The creature was giving chase, however, gaining quickly despite the injury. Before he knew it, Plema found himself on the ground, claws digging into his shoulders. He lashed out with his talons, digging them into the beast's hind legs, flailing the spear he'd brought with until it hit bullseye - it dug into the leopard's throat. It roared in pain and quickly enough, Plema was covered in blood, but at least he wasn't a meal for a predator today. And most of the blood wasn't his anyway. There were nasty marks on his shoulders, but those weren't much in comparison.
While quick acting, the drugs didn't seem to last too long. As soon as Plema stood back up, he faced a worried looking Kubar, trying to get a look at where he was hurt. The man fought for his personal space, explaining what happened on the way back home. Unfortunately, the scratches weren't quite a laughing matter and Kubar was not about to treat them as such. When they got back to their current campsite, she made sure he sat still while she tried to tend to the wounds as well as she could.
"Come on, princess. Just leave me alone. It'll be better in a few days." No, it likely wouldn't. But hey. He likes his personal space.
"Quiet, feather-brain. As head chief, I command that you stay still and let me patch you up."
"As if you have that kind of authority with only the two of us here." The vulture pointed out matter-of-factly.
"Oh, shush, you." She hit him on the head, though it only coaxed out a laugh.

Unfortunately, the wound didn't heal too great. Having gotten infected, it just appeared worse. Kubar forced Plema to stay in place despite his protests, getting water from a nearby river to try to wash the wound everyday, hoping it would get better and giving Plema herbs she knew might help. Over time, the vulture did grown better, but it was a slow process with the pair going through ups and downs, the horse having worry about procuring food for them both now and helping her friend to tend to his wounds (though he still despised the closeness and contact, being more of a solitary creature rather than a social one).

"Hey, princess. I'm going on a walk." Plema proclaimed, his shoulders a little better now as the infection died down. He tried to head out, walking past Kubar who quickly shot up from where she was relaxing.
"No, you're not!" She chased after the bird, giving him a tug back by the hair to avoid his wounds and get her point across easier.
Plema sqawked, falling back.
"For f---'s sake, just leave me alone." He snapped, glaring at the girl.
"You're not going anywhere without me, birdie." She asserted, glaring right back.
"I'm not a chick anymore. I can handle myself, horsey."
"I don't care, we need food anyway so why don't we go together? Or we could explore and look for someone else to join the tribe." Kubar suggested, stubborn with the idea that they should stick together, whether the older man liked it or not.
"Waaga, you're insufferable." He groaned, continuing on into the forest. "Just don't hold me back!" Plema warmed, but his companion was happy nonetheless, following with a smile.

"Ackerley, are you in here?" The familiar metallic buzz accompanied Cultor's words as they stepped into Ackerley's workplace. Though being primarily made from the most advanced circuitry known to man gifted Cultor with a voice box that worked far better than Amicus's, which still squeaked and groaned despite all attempts to fix it, they still possessed a static-like undertone. The other price of their advanced mechanics was a certain degree of prototype issues, which meant Cultor was a frequent visitor to Ackerley's office lean-to.

"Back here!" Ackerley waved an oily cloth to indicate their position in the very back of the cramped lean-to. Cultor found them pouring over prototype designs for a head chief. It was little secret Ackerley struggled with the day to day management of Mekhanikos, which had grown significantly in the two years since they had founded it. If Mekhanikos was going to keep on growing those duties to society, which Ackerley had hoped to escape in the first place, would keep piling up. Ackerley had set down the rag dangerously close to the open burner, the light of which they had been working by. Cultor made a point of moving the cloth elsewhere. "Anything wrong with your systems?"

"Nothing yet. But if Keiran and I are to begin gardening soon I worry about soil in my joints." Cultor proffered a wrist so Ackerley could examine the gap and make a note.

Ackerley motioned for Cutlor to sit down before beginning to rustle around their work space. "Keiran's formality is rubbing off on you," they teased as they pulled various bottles of chemicals and assortments of springs from different corners.

"Did you expect me to sound like him?"

"Huh?"

"Mr. Bentley. The groundskeeper from your old school," Cultor prompted easily.

"Oh." Ackerley was fiddling with a spring, sticking it through tubes of different sizes. They tapped the metal thoughtfully and then shook their head. "Not really. You and him are totally different people. Wait, how did you know I based you on him?"

"You talked about him a lot when you were finishing me up."

"You were aware during that?" Ackerley looked about ready to begin furiously scratching down notes, they were practically bouncing in their fraying boots. "How far back does your consciousness go?"

If Cultor could given a contemplating smile they would have, but their facial features were far from sophisticated enough for such complex mouth movement. "I am not sure. Aware would not be the word I use to describe my time before activation. Receptive perhaps? I can remember what you said as if it were something someone else had written down in a book that present-Cultor was reading."

"Absolutely fascinating," Ackerley murmured. Cultor supposed to them, as a mechanic and creator of life, it must be. But to a simple gatherer whose most advanced goal, as cobbled together from one year of living, was to see Keiran blossom into an accomplished adult, it was more of a fact worth a few moments' musing at most.

"I am glad you would not confuse us. For starters, I am far from a 'him'."

Ackerley laughed. "Aren't we all? No, you're absolutely your own person Cultor. Don't forget that."

"I never would. I only doubted you might, and I see I was incorrect in my judgement. You are a good person Ackerley, and a good mechanic."

"You're going to make me blush!" Ackerley accused Cultor, and indeed the inventor was a little red tinged in the cheeks. "Save calling me a good mechanic until I figure out how to safeguard your knees. Now the way I see it we have two options-"

"I only really have one option," Aoife tried to explain to Keiran, but the younger golem was far from letting eir old friend limit themselves as such. The pair had taken refuge from a summer shower in the awning of old ruin, which Keiran suspected to be the old school but couldn't say for certain. Keiran had been given leave by Cultor and Aoife, having just been awoken a few days ago, was still free and directionless. They had decided to explore the ruins of Caling and reflect on the past, but had instead somehow got on the topic of the future.

"Of course you have options!" Keiran grumbled, eir tone more muffled than normal due to the rain softening eir clay. "You do not have to be a hunter if you don't want to Phe."

Aoife's ferns rustled against feir stone, an almost sigh-like sound resulting. "You have a lot to say on the matter of pursuing one's dreams Kee, probably more than most. But right now I have been given a-" Feir voice skipped with the stumbling of a pebble. "- second chance. And situations are different now: we need to eat and we age far faster. I cannot sit back and make pots all day when everyone is starving."

"We won't starve," Keiran retorted, very clearly miffed at the notion that Aoife did not trust em to provide for the group when ei already had for the past year.

"I don't doubt your abilities," Aoife soothed feir friend, "I truly don't. But with Mekhanikos growing we will need pots, yes, but also more food. I don't mind learning to hunt. It is necessity now, and though others may not see it the same by choosing to be a hunter I can spare others from violating their beliefs."

Keiran rumbled noncommittally but did not speak. The two friends listened to the rain rap on the stones above them, their minds drifting in different directions in the silence. "Is this about Amy?" Ei asked suddenly.

"Is what about Amicus?" Aoife replied carefully, their every word meticulous.

The horns that Keiran sprouted glowed brightly in the golem equivalent of a grin. "This sudden need to protect everyone- are you trying to impress them?"

"I have no idea what you mean. I'm just a kind and thoughtful being by nature."

Keiran hummed knowingly. "Sure, sure. It definitely has nothing to do with the very sweet robot who saved you. I know they keep checking on you."

"They're the mom of Mekhanikos," Aoife huffed, but feir grinding had a mournful edge to it. "They say it so often you ought to remember."

"Poor, poor Phe. Hey I know- I can give you wooing advice! Follow my lead and they're sure to see you in a different light!"

"I'm not desperate enough to get courting tips from a golem as young as you."

Keiran's horns were nearly blinding with light. "You said yourself we're aging faster now. And frankly, you need all the help you can get."

Dalo was getting tired of non-stop patrols almost every day. However, he knew it was all for the betterment of the whole village. He had to stay with this responsibility on his shoulders, he wouldn't let any of the people who believed he could help down.[ Dalo goes on a hunting patrol ]

"Shut that up, you have to get some hunting in and then help out with Oana's patrol..."

'Perhaps these patols are getting to be too much for him? After all, every day he checks the borders and goes out to hunt for food for everyone! At least now we have Meella looking for fruits and vegetables for everyone...'

"Alright. So I know that Dalo and Oana said that you should stay in the cabin, but I want you to come with me to find some food. Alright, buddy?"

"Kitty kitty..."

"Runos, Phezrus, Ether... All of you great gods have given Dalo the mountain Värmod, but I must ask you one more thing to help with my Chief's troubles... Can you grant him a skillful hunter? "Ahh, Elora," Aelys stopped the village chief one day, soon after she had gotten back from explaining the edges of the territory they had claimed to Laurel. The young warrior had gotten the grasp of, well, everything Elora had told her quite quickly. Elora was pleased to have a capable warrior like Laurel, though she could practically sense the ambition wafting from the young human. Knowing full well that Laurel would expect to be promoted when more warriors come along, Elora left the conversation when Laurel even attempted to bring it up. She did not want to promise the girl anything.

Elora, taking with her the distraction Laurel provided as she thought about what to do, only partially paid attention to Aelys. The elf had been following her often, always trying to get her alone and talk to her. She had no doubts to what he wanted, though she didn't have time for the elf's fantasies and adoration over her. She was more focused on Hawk Ridge as a whole. "Yes, Aelys?" She said absently, hands cupping her chin as she thought about Laurel and her insane ambition.

"I thought you might want to know," he began softly, a hint of annoyance subtly coming through. "That we have a nymph spirit hiding out in Hawk Ridge."

All distraction of Laurel suddenly gone, Elora snapped her head up. "Intruder?" She said with surprise. She hadn't noticed anything suspicious, though she wasn't entirely sure what a nymph even was. Elora heard stories of wood spirits called nymphs, but she always thought they were just that; stories.

Aelys looked at the ground, suddenly abashed for having all of Elora's attention on him. "Well, uh, yeah. Maybe you'd prefer to call them dryads, I think that's what they prefer when they're in their bodied form, anyway. I've noticed her for a few days, though I've said nothing. She seems to just want to cause mischief, as most nymphs do. I can tell she's been getting annoyed that we haven't noticed her and noticed things moving around in the trees."

Now it was Elora's turn to be annoyed - not at Aelys, but at the mysterious nymph in their territory. "Well, of course I've noticed things moving. But with Seraphim around, I always assumed it was him. He loves to be a thorn in my side." At the mention of his name, always uncanny with his hearing, Seraphim looked up from where he was sharpening a knife. He gave Elora a huge smile, waving the knife as a hello gesture after hearing his name. Elora rolled her eyes, not returning the infernal harpy's wave. Aelys, however, noticed the small smirk tugging at the corner of her lips.

With a slight frown, Aelys shrugged. "Perhaps you may want to speak with her, my lady." A flinch from Elora. She hated when Aelys called her that, and he knew it. "She's hiding out, ironically, in that tree near Seraphim now. I think she wants to mess with him."

Elora thanked Aelys, moving towards the tree. She could just see what Aelys was talking about, a small blip in the tree's features. Something she would have never noticed, and certainly only Aelys would notice, as drawn as he is to plants and nature.

"Seraphim," Elora called out to the harpy. He set the knife down right away, smiling in earnest as Elora came closer. "It seems you have an adoring fan," she continued, cutting off whatever Seraphim was about to say.

Her greeting seemed to only make Serpahim's smile grow larger, if it were possible. "Ah, Elora, I always knew you had liked me from the first day we met, but you don't need to consider yourself a fan. I, rather, am a fan of yours!" Another eye roll from Elora, though again the smirk played at her otherwise harsh and serious features.

"While I do find you irritating, I will admit you hold a certain charm I can't deny. That, however, is not what I was talking about. You have a dryad in this tree." She turned to face the tree, which seemed to give an audible groan.

"Oh come on!" A voice exclaimed. Serpahim turned, awed, thinking Elora was bluffing until a wood spirit did, in fact, emerge from the tree. "I've been trying to get you guys to notice me for like, a week, but not like this! No fun!" A small, fair skinned girl seemed to appear from nowhere, morphing from out of the tree. "Though, I must admit, it's much nicer to be in dryad form after spending so long as a nymph. But anyway, hi! I guess I should introduce myself, if I want to join you. I'm Merope."

"Join us?" Elora raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms. "I think I'll be the say in that," she added, glaring at the dryad and her blunt ways.

It was the dryads turn to roll her eyes. "Well, yeah. I've seen what this guy can do when he hunts, and I'm intrigued. I think we would make great hunting partners, and I've been getting bored by myself. Would it be alright if I joined you?" Merope added finally, after a slight pause. She seemed to realize that Elora was in charge, at least.

Elora appraised the dryad, thinking that she did look strong and capable. "How would you be a hunter?" She asked, glancing at Seraphim now. "Seraphim is used to working alone, so I think he has a right to know. As do I, as the chief of this village."

Merope smiled hugely, her blue eyes crinkling slightly. "Well, dryads are typically known for distracting prey. I think Serpahim and I could work out a system, making it easier for him to hunt more at one time without getting as tired. Plus, I'm mean with illusion magic." As an example, the dryad produced a rose out of nowhere, holding it out to Seraphim. Tilted his head in confusion, Seraphim reached out to touch it, though his hands only found air. "Distractions, like I said," Merope said with a hint of pride in her voice.

And Elora smiled in earnest at the dryad, after seeing Seraphim's elated expression. "Well, welcome to Hawk Ridge, Merope."
