Velveteen perked up his ears as curiously as he wandered out of the forest. There had recently been a lot of noise from many pets walking by and he had wondered what all the fuss was. He was quite surprised when he saw a bunch of pets in odd-looking outfits that he found out were called "costumes" and that they were all going "trick-or-treating." From what he could gather from observing, "trick-or-treating" was when pets walked up to houses and knocked on the doors to receive either a trick or a treat.
He was eager to join and see what treats he could receive, except he sadly realized that he needed a costume in order to participate. Velveteen was a forlorn sight as he started sulking back to the forest, fluffy orange tail drooping towards the ground until one pet stopped him and complimented him on his fox costume. The glow from his eyes brightened at the compliment and in joy as he found a solution to his dilemma. The other pets already seemed to think he was wearing a costume! He could still go trick-or-treating after all.
Quickly bounding back home, he used some materials from his stash of supplies to make a quick sign and grabbed a bag before loping out of the forest. Happily bounding up to one house, Velveteen knocked on the door. Preparing for the door to open, he made the biggest grin he could and held up his sign which had these words scribbled in crayon,
"Trick or Treat!"
