what are they passionate about?: each year, esther sets out specially made trays on their balcony, where ice gathers in thin sheets during the winter. before the ice has fully hardened, they add colorful dyes to the ice, so that when it hardens, the ice resembles stained glass. they carefully cut and insert these pieces of ice into metal frames to give them as gifts to their friends. it's been a passion of theirs since they were very young, and it took many years of practice and patience to perfect their method, but the result is always worth it in their mind.

not far from xenia's home, there is a scorched forest. the trees are black and most have fallen to the ground. she often visits the forest to gather charred bark. later, she painstakingly glues each piece to a canvas. xenia must be very gentle with the bark or it will crumble. when she is finished glueing, the result is stunning. when from afar, the varying tones and textures create an image. xenia then gives these works as presents to her friends. although the artworks take months to complete, the joy on her friends' faces make the pain and labor worthwhile.
