name: halcyon // a mythical bird said to charm the wind and calms the waves when it lays her eggs in a floating nest at sea; originates from the the name alcyone, meaning "calm and peaceful"
gender: nonbinary, biologically female

daily occurence:
sometimes people don't believe greece is real. it's too picturesque─the houses too pretty, the water too clear, the sunsets too perfect. quite honestly, halcyon agrees. photoshop is just another means by travel agencies to lure tourists by the hordes.

but despite what instagram travel bloggers have gotten wrong (like how the pink-hued sand at elafonisi beach isn't as vibrant as the pictures show, for example), it's still gorgeous. the architecture's lovely, the sea's stunningly blue, and the sunsets still breathtaking.

halcyon muses this, standing at the balcony of their beach house in chania─by no means a luxury villa, but quaint, with a balcony facing the sea. the breeze drifts in every morning, when halcyon rises, carrying with it the tangy sharpness of sea-salt that stings the nose; makes halcyon's curtains dance lightly in the wind.

with this rises the sun. halcyon can't see it from here, but they can see how the sky is painted pink, orange. how the clouds dance, wispy, eternal, casting shadows in the reflection of the sky on the rippling mediterranean sea. a breathing watercolour painting. halcyon feels the warmth of the sun from the cosiness of their balcony; is comforted by the familiarity of the waves crashing and birds crying, of the serenity of their surroundings as they nurse a cup of coffee, still steaming, at their balcony.

halcyon stands there, quietly, till the town has roused, till the shouts of children and honking of cars can be heard, before they head off to work.

congratulations dragonmaster11 on your new dinoken Finbar!
I thought that his daily ritual was very interesting and left a lot about the setting/world that Finbar lives in to be explored. the fact that he walks past the boneyard on a constant basis and still remains disconcerted about it leaves the lasting impression that it is a place of deep tragedy. I hope to see a lot of wonderful development for him, and the boneyard!

Canary22, take good care of your little troublemaker Spike!
The sheer comedy of your form is really what allured me. the fact that he ambushes people and then trots up to them expecting food was really funny to me. the montage in my head of Spike leaping at groggy folks, demanding food, is just too good! I expect to see his rambunctious lil self making some interesting connections in the community.

PrizmPaws, Jupiter is yours to keep!
not only is the little pixel animation you made utterly lovely, but your writing is fantastic too! the way you take the reader through many different sensations to cultivate the same experience that Jupiter might have crawling underneath their human's bed was a joy to read. I'm also really enjoying the implication that Europa is a tiny, colorful puffball unbeknownst to the other creatures in the house. your form was one of the few that I was pretty much instantly settled on, so I'm very glad that Jupiter will be going to such a wonderful home.

wow. where do I even begin with this one? intensely beautiful imagery throughout the writing, an insightful name explanation, the only form to meet right up to the word limit. to say the least, I'm impressed with the setting you've built for them; it is simply incredible and I feel very confident in awarding this ken to you. take good care of Halcyon! hopefully soon, they'll have some friends to share the beautiful view with.

I'd also like to offer a runner-up to Jessknight for her tryout form for the extraterrestrial comet dinoken. I was very fond of Mia's intimacy of caring for the fireflies, both in life and in death. if you'd like to accept this RU, please pm me with a basic idea for a color palette or any inspirations you might have for the RU's design!
