Alessa walked outside with Scarlett, then got into the car. She buckled herself in, then took a deep breath. Alessa looked up and down the street, making sure none of her friends were close by. She wondered how it'd be if one of their mothers worked at the hospital with Mary, or even worse, if Shelby found out. Alessa knew she'd be taunted if any of the bullies found out about her blood draws and burn scars.

Chrys walked Alessa to Mary's room first as always. They would see David in a moment.

Alessa walked into the room and sat on Mary's bed. Mary wasn't feeling the best, but she didn't act rudely to Alessa. She loved the girl like her own daughter. Alessa let Mary take her blood, then carefully climbed off the bed.

David was informed they were there and calmly rolled into Mary's room, trying not to scare anyone. "Hey, Alessa!" he greeted.

Alessa looked over to David; she actually found herself staring, so she quickly looked away. "Hi..." she said quietly. Mary had shut her eyes as she planned on resting; her surgery was going to be just before noon.

"How are you three?" David asked Chrys, Alessa, and Mary.

[Boomer]

"I'm okay..." said Alessa quietly, "A bit hungry." She turned to Mary and tilted her head a little. "Mary?" she asked. Mary opened her eyes and glanced to Alessa. "I'm sorry, I haven't slept much..." she murmured.

"I'm fine, thanks for asking. Taking care of Alessa is such a delight," Chrys said. She turned to Mary. "I heard from David you're having surgery today... Good luck. I hope everything works out."

[Boomer]

"Thank you." said Mary quietly, looking to Chrys, "I'm quite nervous, truth be told." "Surgery?" echoed Alessa, shuddering a little. The pup looked uncomfortable with the idea that Mary was going to have surgery.

"It's okay, sweetie," David said to Alessa. "The surgery will help Mary. Don't be afraid."
"You have a right to be nervous," Chrys continued. "I would be. But it's for the best, of course."
