Damien--------------------------------------------Alexia-------------------------------------------Jake
June 2002AlexiaThe young woman, now celebrating her twentieth birthday let out a shocked cry. Her heart skipped a beat with dread.
He can't be here already! He's early! She checked herself in the bathroom mirror once more, and then clipped across the apartment that she shared with a friend, who so happened to be out. It was frustrating, having a birthday at this time of the year. Everyone seemed to be on holiday, enjoying the sun and the warm weather. This year, Alexia found herself at home, stuck with the 'it’s a heat wave!' weather of the UK. Of course, it was nothing of the sort. Twenty nine degrees was considered a heat wave, and if the temperature dared to go above thirty, then all hell would break loose and the hose-pipe ban would come into play once more.
She pressed the buzzer, and said down it, "you're early! I'll buzz you in, see you in a sec!" before rushing back to the bathroom to finish her make-up. Her eyes were dark, smoky, that made her strange and beautiful eyes stand out magnificently, and her lips were full, slightly redder than what would be considered normal due to the effect of lipstick. She attacked her long eyelashes with her mascara brush one last time, and heard the door swing open, and then click shut. "Alexia?" came a man’s voice down the hall.
"In here!" she replied, checking herself one last time. The woman looking back at her was mysterious, stunningly beautiful, but she shrugged. She hadn't done a bad job. She poked her head around the bathroom door, to see Jake walking down the hall towards her, wearing a black shirt with the sleeves hitched up onto his elbows, and denim jeans. His face broke into a smile as he saw her, and he opened his arms wide, taking her into a hug. Once they separated, he held onto her arms, looking her up and down.
"Jesus Alex!"
She bit her lip, and looked down at herself. She was wearing a short black dress that hugged her slender curves, black stilettos, and an exquisite golden necklace that her mother had given to her for her eighteenth birthday. "Is it too much? I'll go change..."
She broke off as Jake shook his head, letting his hands drop to his sides again. "No way, you look amazing! Come on, let’s get this over with!" He added with a chuckle. He took out a small box from his pocket. "Happy birthday", he said with a smile. She took it from him with gentle hands, and slowly unwrapped it as he said, "Sorry I didn't write a card", but she shook her head. In the box were a pair of dangley golden earings. "Oh Jake, their beautiful" she said softly, looking up at him and giving him a tight hug. "Thank you", she said, pulling away and begginging to put them in her ears.
Jake watched her put the earings in, and then clapped his hands together. "Lets get this show on the road", he said with a grin.
She smirked and gave him a light punch on the shoulder and strode past him. She picked up her golden sequined clutch, and nodded her head towards the door. "Come on you giant lump" she said, grinning. He gave her a mock bow, and then bounced out the door that she was holding open.
They descended the stairs, and then exited the building into the cool summer air. The night was young, and it was Friday. Friday night in London. The city was
alive. They hailed a black cab pretty swiftly, and clambered into it.
"Ministry of Sound please" Jake told the cabbie, who nodded, looking over his shoulder at them.
The drive was short, one of the perks of living in Brixton was that it was reasonably close to the centre of the city. They exited the taxi, Jake slipping the driver a fiver, before turning around to look back at Alexia. She grinned at him, before turning her head and looking at the world renowned club that lay before her. Her eyes seemed to twinkle in the dying light of the sun, and the corner of her mouth twitched into a smirk. She grabbed Jake's hand, and pulled him forwards through the doors and into the blasting music. She noticed that a lot of heads were turned to look at them. Well, she thought, Jake does look very handsome and dashing these days.
The two of them headed to the bar, ordering a drink before heading to the danceflooor. Alexia grinned all the while. This was her environment. Everybody seemed to be having
fun. She danced with the music, feeling the vibrations in her chest. Lights were flashing, people were jumping, drinks were flying.
~
"I'm going to get another drink" yelled a worn out Alexia to Jake.
"What?" He yelled in return.
"DRINK!" She cried, laughing. He nodded, and she turned on her heel to try and push her way out of the crowd and to the bar. She put her arms on the glass top as she waited for a bartender to see her, taking some weight off of her sore feet.
"You're a good dancer", came a voice to her left. She waited a second, presuming that she was just overhearing someone else's conversation, but when she didn't hear the voice again, she looked around. A young man was sitting at the bar, watching her intently. Her lips parted as if to say something in return, but her mind went blank. Instead, she smiled. Her eyes were locked with the strangers intense green ones. He had a certain mystery about him. He was wearing a black t-shirt, with scruffy faded jeans. His hair was near as black as was natural, and his facial structure strong. He had a masculinity about him that entranced her.
"I'm Damien", he said, not taking his green eyes away from her.
She felt herself blushing slightly, and suddenly felt really hot and self conscious. She resisted the urge to try and sort herself out, but with difficulty.
"Alexia" she said in return.
"Alexia", he repeated. "Such a beautiful name to match such a beautiful being".
She lowered her head and smiled, the compliment washing over her. He nodded at a chair that was on the other side of him, and Alexia automatically wondered over to it, sitting down and looking back at him, her smile still on her face.
JakeDuring the taxi ride to the club, Jake mainly concentrated on keeping his head. He had noticed how the taxi driver's eyes had lingered on Alexia, and he didn't like it one bit. When the cab stopped outside the club, he somewhat reluctantly handed over the money.
Following Alexia inside was also a problem. She was drawing a lot of attention. Heads were turning from all angles to look at her, and Jake suddenly felt overprotective. As they stopped at the bar, he subconsciously moved himself in the way of most of the onlookers, as if her were protecting her from the missiles they were shooting from their eyes.
He followed her to the dance floor, finally starting to relax. It was dark, and even more importantly, it was busy. In situations like this, its too crazy to see people's faces properly.

"I'm going to get another drink" yelled a worn out Alexia to Jake.
"What?" He yelled in return, not hearing her over the music.
"DRINK!" She cried, laughing. He nodded, and watched her and her long legs head over to the bar. He was about to turn away, when he saw a man watching her intently. He had a hungry look on his face, and Jake knew that the man wanted Alexia.
He suddenly felt a surge of anger. How
dare he? His jaw locked as he watched the man engage in communication with Alexia,
his Alexia. His fists tightened, and he fought the urge to go and punch the living daylights out of the man.
She was getting caught up in his trap of compliments and good looks, Jake could see it.
She was slipping away from him.
