Which dinosaur would you want to have as a pet? (I’d have a velociraptor as a pet)


Probably a stegosaurus because a raptor would be a handful

That's such a tough question. Maybe a stegosaurus or an ouranosaurus or edmontosaurus

Well, speaking in realistic terms I definitely wouldn't want anything that was TOO big or had a chance to injure or even kill.

Personally I would keep a Compsognathus. Easy to care for, travel with, cute as all heck, and a breeze to maintain (You could just feed them things like frozen rodents and stuff that are used for snakes.)

On the bit more larger scale, a Protoceratops. Not big enough to ride, but you could probably use them to carry things or pull a light load.

I've already had a dinosaur as a pet


but for an extinct dino i'd maybe get a couple of small ceratopsians, keep them with sheep or goats as like a living lawnmower. Maybe some ornithomimids, keep them with ostriches? I don't think many dinosaurs would make good pets. There also isn't a lot of use i can see for farming them. Maybe eggs? and there isn't much reason other than shock value for zoos to use larger dinosaurs. The plant eaters would probably be at least as dumb as a cow and several times more dangerous and there is no way I'm going for a big predator before we've worked out how to look after smaller versions. I'm not gonna get a lion before i know very well how to look after a house cat. also even then actually. you gotta be careful with just trying to scale up things.

actually this tangent is one of my biggest problems with how jurassic park is run. don't breed stuff like a t. rex until you know for sure what a smaller tyrannosaurid is capable of. Don't do that until you know you can handle smaller things. And why WHY were they feeding them live prey??? That's teaching them to hunt!! (In the book) Robert Muldoon is supposed to be like 'the best zoo guy' so WHY LIVE PREY??? They don't do that with regular zoo animals because
a) unnecessary harm and stress to the prey animal. we can kill things much less stressfully
b) danger of harm to the predator. prey can fight back
and c) you are teaching them that things that run away are prey. you are TEACHING them HOW to KILL. Hammond. Hammond. You are the size of a goat. Congrats. You've just taught this giant murderbird that mammals of your size are murderable. you deserve to be eaten by compys.

and Don't get me started on the idea of an indominous rex. terrible plan. awful. instead, why not use one of the weirder dinosaurs that like, actually existed? Get a therizinosaurus. It'll look stranger than your reskinned raptor rex and bonus! Its a vegetarian. Less likely to go on a murder spree. Or, since you clearly aren't confining yourself to dinosaurs, what about some freaky stuff from the Cambrian period? There are such cool animals in prehistory and you went with giant raptor that is even more of a murdersaurus.
